Background: Health insurance (HI) is one of the ways by which Out-Of-Pocket Expenditure can be reduced. However, only 15% of the Indian population purchased some kind of HI. Thus, we aimed to study the awareness, enrollment, and reasons for non-enrollment of HI among patients attending public and private hospitals. Materials and methods: A hospital-based cross-sectional study was conducted among 403 patients from both public and private hospitals attached to a medical college in Mangalore. Patients were interviewed using a pre-tested, semi-structured questionnaire after obtaining a written informed consent. The data were entered and analyzed using SPSS 25. Results: The study shows that 74.4% of the patients were aware of HI. The main sources of information were friends and Newspaper.71% had purchased a HI. The foremost reason to purchase a HI was to cover medical expenditure (84.6%), chiefly the surgical expenses. The most cited reason for non-enrollment in HI schemes was lack of awareness. Conclusion: The awareness regarding HI was found to be high. However, not all who were aware had a HI.

Background: Health insurance is an important mechanism in the modern world to save the individuals from the huge health shock, even then very high percentage of people even from educated higher income groups are not covered under any health insurance policy. This study was undertaken to know the knowledge, attitude and practice regarding health insurance.Methods: A community based cross sectional study was conducted among 550 household of Uttar Kannada and Udupi districts. Multistage sampling technique was used.Results: Of the 550 study participants, 384 (69.8%) were BPL card holders. 348 (63.27%) were aware and also subscribed for any type of the health insurance, 115 (20.91%) were aware but did not subscribe while 87 (15.82%) were not aware about it. INTRODUCTION: Health insurance is a type of insurance coverage that pays for medical, surgical and sometimes dental expenses incurred by the insured. It reimburses the insured for expenses incurred from illness or injury or pays the case provider directly. On an average, 10% Indians are covered under different types of health insurance schemes, mostly inadequate. This low coverage might be because of lack of awareness about health insurance or might be because of lack of financial literacy. The aim of the present study was to investigate the awareness, and utilization of health insurance in the selected population of State of Sikkim. A cross-sectional descriptive study was carried out in north eastern region (NER) of India, which is considered as one of the backward regions of the country. Background: Health insurance policies insure against several illnesses and guarantee a financial security if ever a treatment is required. Objectives: The main purpose of study was to find out awareness of health insurance among households in Indore. Secondly to assess the awareness of people regarding government sponsored health insurance schemes and in last to find out source of information regarding health insurance & the reason for not having health insurance. Focus was on the variables like the Education, Gender, Occupation, Income, type of the families etc. Material & Method: The study was conducted in Indore city and 200 subjects were selected from randomly selected general people. The collected data were analysed with the help of various tools and techniques to draw meaningful inferences and conclusion which were obtained using Excel and some using SPSS. Results: Result shows that 41% of the respondents heard the term health insurance. 66% were interested in having a health insurance and almost equal 63.4% were willing to spend less than Rs.1000 for health insurance. Conclusion: Many people aware but had incomplete information regarding various aspects of health insurance & its importance. Hence it is important to increase the awareness community on various aspects of health insurance in view to meet the ever rising medical expenses in view of unpredictable illness & injuries.
KNOWLEDGE, AWARENESS AND PERCEPTION OF HEALTH INSURANCE AMONG INSURED IN A TERTIARY CARE HOSPITAL

A descriptive study design was carried out to assess the knowledge, awareness, and perception of an insured person about health insurance in a tertiary care hospital. A well-framed structured questionnaire was administered to the opinions of the 384 respondents (insured and uninsured), out of which 92% are insured and only 8% are uninsured. Only a few (12%) of insured do not know how much policy coverage is there for hospital charges and 27% of insured have chosen health insurance policy in order to avail good quality treatment. The result clearly shows that most people are not that aware of the process of initiating cashless hospitalization. Hence the insurance companies, third-party administrators, and the hospital must work in synergy.

Health insurance is an emerging channel of distribution adopted by insurers to increase the insurance market and its penetration. Health Insurance can reimburse the expenses of individuals incurred from the long term illness or sudden injuries to pay care provider directly. The present study attempts to know the perception levels to find out the awareness, influence, expectations, and willingness to purchase policy from the Non-Health Insurance Policy holders in Hyderabad City. A sample of 118 respondents were collected for this purpose and statistical analysis such as percentage analysis for socioeconomic factors, awareness levels, sources of information, the Insurer type, policy options, and preferences in payment methods among the Non-Health Insurance policy holders was done.
