Blockchain-Based Adaptive Trust Management in Internet of Vehicles Using Smart Contract
IEEE Transactions on Intelligent Transportation Systems, 2020
The Internet of Vehicles (IoV) provides the concept of coordination of vehicles for enhancing safety of both the driver and the vehicle and also increasing transportation performance. Vehicles are coordinated for avoiding collisions by communicating their positions when they become closer. The information about location is identified by their geographical positions or the ones in road maps. The system can also be made efficient by informing about traffic jams by sharing their locations and destination. In this way, traveling time can be reduced. However, IoV also have some security challenges, such as keeping safe from virtual hijacking. To avoid this, vehicles should detect and avoid the hijacked vehicles ignoring their communications. This system presents a technique for improving security by applying certain prioritization rules, using digital certificates, applying trust policies and incorporating them with block chain technology for detecting and avoiding hijacked vehicles. Based on trust values the corrupted messages are blocked by the system itself and broadcasting of fake messages is completely avoided, thereby enhancing the security.

In this paper, a blockchain-based data sharing and access control system is proposed, for communication between the Internet of Things (IoT) devices. The proposed system is intended to overcome the issues related to trust and authentication for access control in IoT networks. Moreover, the objectives of the system are to achieve trustfulness, authorization, and authentication for data sharing in IoT networks. Multiple smart contracts such as Access Control Contract (ACC), Register Contract (RC), and Judge Contract (JC) are used to provide efficient access control management. Where ACC manages overall access control of the system, and RC is used to authenticate users in the system, JC implements the behavior judging method for detecting misbehavior of a subject (i.e., user). After the misbehavior detection, a penalty is defined for that subject. Several permission levels are set for IoT devices’ users to share services with others. In the end, performance of the proposed system is an...
Integration of Blockchain with Connected and Autonomous Vehicles: Vision and Challenge
ACM Journal of Data and Information Quality (JDIQ), 2022
Connected and Autonomous Vehicles (CAVs) are introduced to improve individuals’ quality of life by offering a wide range of services. They collect a huge amount of data and exchange them with each other and the infrastructure. The collected data usually includes sensitive information about the users and the surrounding environment. Therefore, data security and privacy are among the main challenges in this industry. Blockchain, an emerging distributed ledger, has been considered by the research community as a potential solution for enhancing data security, integrity, and transparency in Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS). However, despite the emphasis of governments on the transparency of personal data protection practices, CAV stakeholders have not been successful in communicating appropriate information with the end users regarding the procedure of collecting, storing, and processing their personal data, as well as the data ownership. This article provides a vision of the opp...

There has been expanding enthusiasm for embracing Block Chain (BC) that supports the digital money Bitcoin, in Internet of things (IoT) for security and protection. In any case, BCs are computationally costly and include high transfer speed overhead and postponements, which are not reasonable for most IoT gadgets. This paper reviews what has been done by researchers in integrating the block chain with IOT for safety and privacy. High asset devices make an overlay system to execute a freely open disseminated BC that guarantees start to finish security and protection.
Empowering Communications in Vehicular Networks with an Intelligent Blockchain-Based Solution
Sustainability, 2020
Blockchains have emerged over time as a reliable and secure way to record transactions in an immutable manner in a wide range of application domains. However, current related solutions are not yet capable of appropriately checking the authenticity of data when their volumes are huge. They are not also capable of updating Blockchain data blocks and synchronizing them within reasonable timeframes. This is the case within the specific context of Blockchain vehicular networks, where these solutions are commonly cumbersome when attempting to add new vehicles to the network. In order to address these problems, we propose in this paper a new Blockchain-based solution that intelligently implement selective communication and collaborative endorsement approaches to reduce communications between vehicles. Our solution represents the vehicles of the Blockchain as intelligent software agents with a Belief–Desire–Intention (BDI) architecture. Furthermore, we propose an approach based on multi-end...
Exploiting Blockchain Technology for Attribute Management in Access Control Systems
2019
Access Control systems are a key resource in computer security to properly manage the access to digital resources. Blockchain technology, instead, is a novel technology to decentralise the control and management of a shared state, representing anything from a data repository to a distributed virtual machine. We propose to integrate traditional Access Control systems with blockchain technology to allow the combined system to inherit the desirable properties blockchain technology provides, mainly transparency and, consequently, auditability. Depending on the application scenario considered, for some systems it may not be desirable to employ a fully decentralised approach. As such, in this paper we outline how our proposal can be adapted to allow for the minimal possible integration of blockchain technology in a traditional Access Control system. In particular, we consider the scenario where Attribute Managers only may be managed on chain through smart contracts. We provide a proof of ...
Blockchain-Enabled Communication Framework for Secure and Trustworthy Internet of Vehicles
The Internet of Vehicles (IoV) is an emerging field that has attracted significant attention due to its potential to transform transportation and mobility. IoV enables the development of new services and applications that can improve transportation systems' efficiency, safety, and sustainability. However, ensuring secure and trustworthy communication among the different components of an IoV system is a critical challenge that needs to be addressed. This paper proposes a blockchain-enabled communication framework for secure and trustworthy IoV applications. The proposed framework leverages the security and decentralization features of blockchain technology to provide secure communication channels for different components of the IoV system, including vehicles, infrastructure, and service providers. The proposed framework provides an identity management system to authenticate and authorize users and devices, thereby preventing unauthorized access and data breaches. To evaluate the ...

The concept of smart cities has become prominent in modern metropolises due to the emergence of embedded and connected smart devices, systems, and technologies. They have enabled the connection of every “thing” to the Internet. Therefore, in the upcoming era of the Internet of Things, the Internet of Vehicles (IoV) will play a crucial role in newly developed smart cities. The IoV has the potential to solve various traffic and road safety problems effectively in order to prevent fatal crashes. However, a particular challenge in the IoV, especially in Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) and Vehicle-to-Infrastructure (V2I) communications, is to ensure fast, secure transmission and accurate recording of the data. In order to overcome these challenges, this work is adapting Blockchain technology for real time application (RTA) to solve Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) communications problems. Therefore, the main novelty of this paper is to develop a Blockchain-based IoT system in order to establish secu...

Real-time applications always have security issues present in their ecosystem which needs to be improved. Blockchain technology can be considered as a solution that can ensure network security. The integration of blockchain technology into autonomous systems has now become an important candidate to resolve network security issues in devices that work on p2p communications. As humans become more reliant on autonomous vehicles, the importance of finding a solution to the problems linked with data security needs to be addressed to comply with international security laws. The paper aims to find the importance of blockchain technology and how it can be integrated into different classes of autonomous vehicles. In the research, an analysis of existing papers will be
