This study investigates the perceived attitude of teachers towards the teaching of sex education in secondary schools. Descriptive survey design was used for this study. The population for this study comprises of ten (10) teachers randomly selected from ten secondary schools in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State. Due to the size of the population, the same ten (10) teachers were used as the sample. Data was collected using a questionnaire on Perceived Attitude of Teachers Towards the Teaching of Sex Education in Secondary Schools (PATTTSESS), constructed by the researchers to elucidate information from the respondents. The questionnaire was validated by two experts from Educational Management and Planning and Educational Measurement and Evaluation, Federal University Dutsinma, with a reliability index of 0.07. The data collected was analyzed using frequency (F) and percentages (%). Findings reveal that most teachers were not interested in teaching this part of the education curriculum, especially, because of religious and cultural reasons. The researchers therefore concluded that teaching of sex education should be made mandatory in schools regardless of any religious or cultural inclinations, due to its importance to the youths, especially the female child. The researchers therefore recommend amongst others that the government should enforce the inclusion of sex education into the curriculum and let it be taught mandatorily.

International Journal of Elementary Education, 2014
This study investigates parental attitude towards sex education at the lower primary level of education in Ghana. In all 100 parents ranging from 20 to 60 years, with diverse socioeconomic backgrounds consisting of 64 males and 36 females where sampled for the study. Out of this number, 63% reside in urban areas, whereas 37% reside in rural areas. The results indicate that about 58% of parents have an unfavourable attitude towards sex education in lower primary schools. Unsurprisingly, all the parents who held unfavourable attitude towards sex education said that children are too young for sex education at the lower primary school level. However, of the parents who held favourable attitude; 81% indicated that children are exposed a lot these days. 17% admitted that sex education will be helpful to the children and 2% said children ask questions about sex anyway and needed to be provided with answers. Finally, the results showed that there is no gender difference in parental attitude towards sex education, as well as no residency difference about sex education.
