Gender Perspective Concerning the Basic Mathematical Abilities
PONTE International Scientific Researchs Journal, 2019
This research aims at mapping the basic mathematical abilities of the students of Civics Education. Then, the existence of differences regarding this basic skill would be scientifically studied from the perspective of gender. The combination of qualitative and quantitative (Mixed Methods) would be employed as the research method, the qualitative would be used to map the basic mathematical abilities and the quantitative is for testing the quality of instrument which would be used from the perspective of gender. The results are (1) civic education students' ability on visualization is higher than mathematical logic. (2) Based on gender, it indicates that, based on the given 30 questions, women gain 17,85 questions and men 14,4 questions of correct answers. (3) The test to determine the mathematical basic abilities indicates the output Independent Samples Test Test value Asymp. Sig. (2-tailed) = 0,008 < 0,05. Meaning that H0 reveals the fact that man and woman possess different levels of abilities.

Curriculum 2013 appointed by the government since 2015 uses a scientific approach to the mathematics learning in the classroom. The scientific approach is used to introduce students to the variety of mathematical problem to be solved. It makes students to be familiar in reasoning to solve mathematical problem. Based on this consideration, the aim of this study is to find out students' who have high learning achievement thinking profile in solving mathematical problem based on reasoning in terms of gender. This study was conducted by using explorative qualitative method. The sample of the study were students of SMPN 13 Banjarmasin. The result of this study indicated that (1) the male subject can understand the problem, devise and implement a plan to solve a problem poorly, not look back and has a give up sprit; (2) the female subject can understand the problem, devise and implement a plan to solve a problem very well, looking back, and structure thinking perfectly.

We often face problems, such as: tasks, questions, or obstacles which cannot be known how to solve soon; it is difficult to avoid by human being. Mathematical problem solving is an exercise for students to face non routine things and how to try to solve them. One of the programs which was held by the Religion Ministry that has a goal to produce human resources who are capable of solving daily life problems is Kompetisi Sains Madrasah Ibtidaiyah (Islamic Elementary School Science Competition) in level sub district, regency, province, and nation. The skills which were competed in this program were Mathematics and Science. This research aimed to study the students' skills of KSMI 2014 at Sumedang in answering question items of problem solving. The subject of this research was 57 students of 57 Islamic Elementary Schools who were selected by each school and considered having high mathematical problem solving skills. This competition was held in April 2014. The examined contents were Arithmatics, Geometry, and Data and Measurement. The result of this analysis of the students' answers informed that generally the students still felt difficult to solve the problems, especially in Geometry.

This study aims to analyze the mathematical literacy ability of SMK students in solving the minimum competency assessment (AKM) problem in the opportunity material in terms of mathematical cognitive ability. The subjects in this study were students of class XI MM 2 SMKN 1 Wonoasri with high, medium and low mathematical cognitive abilities of 1 subject each. This type of research is qualitative research. Data collection techniques based on the results of cognitive tests, AKM and interviews. Data validity techniques with engineering triangulation. Data analysis is carried out by reducing, presenting and verifying data and drawing conclusions. The conclusion of the study is that the cognitive subjects of high mathematics at level 1 write down information in detail, level 2 uses coding and solves problems by dividing them, level 3 solves problems by simplification and multiplication. The cognitive subject of mathematics is at level 1 writing down information briefly, level 2 uses coding...
Mathematical Literacy: A Case Study on Padang Students' Mathematical Ability
Al-Jabar : Jurnal Pendidikan Matematika, 2021
This study aims to analyze student mathematical literacy ability from the perspective of students' Mathematical Ability. This research is a descriptive study with a qualitative approach. The research subjects were three students of XI IPA 1 MAN 1 Padang with different mathematical abilities: low, medium, and high. Data were collected through documentation, tests, and interviews. The results of the analysis show that students with high abilities can solve routine problems, interpret problems and solve them with formulas, carry out procedures well, can deal with complex situations, use their reasoning in solving problems, can work effectively and interpret different representations and then relate them to the real world. Students with moderate abilities can solve routine problems, interpret problems and solve them with formulas, and carry out procedures properly. Meanwhile, students with low abilities are only able to solve routine questions. Based on these results, it is necessar...

Mathematical literacy problems require counting and solving mathematical problems in daily life. This study aims to analyze the ability of junior high school students to solve mathematical literacy problems. This qualitative research uses a case study approach with the subject of 15 junior high school students in the city area. The instrument in this study is six mathematical literacy questions oriented to PISA test questions and interview guidelines. The data analysis technique in this study is thematic analysis. This study's results show three groups of students' abilities in solving mathematical literacy problems based on their initial abilities: Time Stone, Power Stone, and Mind Stone
Analysis of students’ mathematical reasoning between different genders
Union: Jurnal Ilmiah Pendidikan Matematika
The main purpose of this study was to examine existing studies related to mathematical reasoning skills based on gender differences using Systematic Literature Review (SLR). The following studies identify reasoning abilities based on gender differences. The review was carried out by carrying out several stages, namely the process of identification, screening, feasibility, inclusion, and data analysis on two livelihood machines, namely SCOPUS and ERIC. In reporting this study, the guidelines used were PRISMA guidelines. The data used was sorted by the specified criteria and this resulted in a total of 8 articles. Our findings identify that the study was conducted in three places: Indonesia, Sweden, and Turkey. Based on the findings of the study using three research designs, namely qualitative, mixed method, and quasi-experimental. The topics of the material used in this study are topics of geometry, algebra, and other branches of mathematics. The SLR also includes characteristics of ...
Mathematical Ability of Elementary School Students Based on Cognitive Style and Gender
2017
The development of mathematical ability of elementary school students is very important. Education in elementary school is a foundation in mathematical ability at a higher level. In fact, many things can affect students' mathematical ability both physically and mentally of the students. The facts underlying this study were the mathematical ability of elementary school students based on cognitive style and gender. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to examine the cognitive style and gender of the elementary school students' mathematical ability. The employed method was survey method. The subjects of this study consisted of 141 elementary school students on the fourth grade. These elementary school students were scattered in five districts in Banjarmasin. The instruments used were mathematical ability items and Group Embedded Figure Test (GEFT) to determine the cognitive style. Analysis of quantitative data in this study used SPSS 23.0 program. The conclusions that can b...
Gender and mathematical reasoning ability
Journal of Physics: Conference Series, 2019
This research is motivated by the low mathematical reasoning ability experienced by the students, considering the importance of mathematical reasoning ability for male and female students needed a study on gender factors to the ability of mathematical reasoning. The purpose of this study is to determine whether there is a significant difference in students mathematical reasoning abilities between male and female students after using the problem based learning approach on learning. This research as conducted at 24 female student and 20 male student in the 8th grade in one of junior high school in Cimahi, Indonesia. The method in this study is quasi experiment that is by comparing the reasoning ability of male and female students after getting learning with problem based learning and instrument as much as 3 pieces about mathematical reasoning ability test. First, both male and female students were given pre-test, secondly students were given learning using PBL as much 5 meetings and lastly students were given a post-test to compare reasoning skills between male and female students. The result of this research is there is no significant difference of mathematical reasoning ability between male and female students after using problem based learning approach in their learning., it means that the problem-based learning approach can reduce the difference in mathematical reasoning ability among male and female students.
