In this paper, the authors seek to examine the link between Knowledge Management (KM) and Quality. They propose that as KM reaches its maturity in terms of acceptance as an important part of doing business in the modern world, that Quality will again become the mantra of successful companies. A national survey of 1000 Quality certified organisations in Australia was distributed with a 25% response rate. The survey asked questions pertaining to their use of KM, their Quality culture as well as their Quality performance measures. As a result of preliminary analysis of the data, the authors suggest that in order to survive in such a dynamic environment, organisations will have to embrace KM as a fundamental component of delivering a Quality culture.
Research on CMM-based Knowledge Management Maturity Models

To describe the progress of Knowledge Management strategies in organizations, various Knowledge Management Maturity Models (KMMMs) have been proposed and developed. From the context of Software Process Improvement (SPI), two categories are identified: Non-CMM-based KMMMs and CMM-based KMMMs. This paper describes the literature review of a state of the art analysis for CMM-based KMMMs, based on the premise that SPI can be considered as an instance of Knowledge Management. Findings indicate that CMM-based KMMMs and their knowledge areas can serve as useful components to evaluate KM maturity in KMbased SPI projects.
Developing a Knowledge Process Quality Model Evaluation System Using Commonkads

Several knowledge management maturity models have been proposed in the last years. These models are used to evaluate the quality of knowledge management practices in the organizations. One of these models is the Knowledge Process Quality Model, which has five maturity levels. The acquisition of a high maturity level is usually expensive due to the evaluations and improvement processes that are often required for a positive final decision. With the aim of minimizing these costs, this paper proposes a Knowledge-Based System that tries to check if the company currently stands in compliance with a given KPQM maturity level. The actual evaluation process starts only if the system output is positive. This approach implies an important cost reduction by avoiding negative evaluations. The design of the system is based on the CommonKADS methodology, and its implementation was carried out with the Clips tool.
Knowledge management is an integral business function for many organizations to manage intellectual resources effectively. From a resource-based perspective, organizational learning and TQM are antecedents that are closely related to KM. The purposes of this study were to explain the contents of KM, and explore the relationship between KM-related concepts. Three propositions and one KM-related conceptual model were developed. This paper concludes with a discussion of how organizational learning and TQM contribute to KM. (Contains 1 figure.)
An Integrated Proposal for a Knowledge Management Implementation & Maturity Assessment Model

The goal of the paper is to suggest a comprehensive and integrated knowledge management implementation and maturity assessment model based on the most common critical success factors and corporate enablers discovered during a systematic overview of the knowledge management maturity models and the related literature review. Summarizing the review leads to the discovery of KMMMs CSFs and key themes, while simultaneously examining the idea of standardization through accepted KM standards and their core principles. To provide a model that can be used by both practitioners and researchers in the future to improve organizational performance and to be used as a tool for knowledge management performance measurement, the implementation stages of the proposed framework, the maturity levels, the proposed assessment measuring tools and methods are presented in an approach that encompasses the core guidelines of ISO 30401.
Evaluating knowledge management maturity: a case study of a service operations company

Knowledge management (KM) has become an important focus for organisations in the current context. This is more relevant for companies specialised in BPO-business processes outsourcing. The correct understanding of KM practices development stage is essential for practitioners who aim to establish improvement plans in order to achieve higher levels of performance based on KM issues. Maturity evaluation can provide real scenario in terms of development level of KM practices. Taking this into consideration, this study will bring the findings from a case study method applied on a BPO company in Brazil. An improvement plan will be proposed as solution for KM issues identified at the company. Besides providing a guide for practitioners in terms of maturity evaluation, this study also brings an important contribution for KM theory and in specific maturity management.

Knowledge has become one of the most important driving forces for business success. Organizations are becoming more knowledge intensive. Many firms in the global market are aware of this, and they try to explore the field of knowledge management (KM) in order to improve and sustain their competitiveness. Knowledge has always been the central in the functioning of society. However, in today's "knowledge economy", organizations are increasingly aware of the need for a "knowledge focus" in their organizational strategies as they respond to changes in the environment. The aim of this paper is to describe the theoretical concepts and approaches of KM process that could be implemented in organizations by reviewing KM process theories and present suggestions for what a general process should include based on analysis of various models presented in KM.
