Abstract
The ritual of the Paradura del Nino (Standing of th e Child) generates both an anthropological and a discursive problem. From the point of view of anthropology, this ritual has been studied as an autochthonous form of celebration of life and fertility, as the coming back of a mythical guardian spirit whom Andean people promise an annual feast (Clarac, 2003). From a discursive point of view, there is an opposition of two ideological discursive-formations (Fairclough, 1995), where the dominant one, which i s that of the Catholic Church, seems to hide the pagan one and naturalize it, but in preser ving the norms and goals of the pagan ritual in detriment of catholic beliefs.
