This research paper aims to promote environmental knowledge and behavior in the Moroccan school through the syllabus of science at the level of the Moroccan middle School. As a first step, a comparative multi-case study was conducted. It is intended for students from four middle Schools who belong to four different socio-environmental backgrounds. The survey was conducted through questionnaires which consist of four sections; the learning methods, the teaching aids, environmental knowledge, and the use of environmental knowledge in adequate eco-responsible behaviors. Based on the analysis of the results obtained at the level of the four schools, a teaching intervention of four weeks (2 hours per week) was then carried out. During this process, the same program was taught but otherwise. In order to meet the objectives of this work, we have inserted some local environmental problems through active learning methods and relatively appropriate teaching aids. In our intervention, we have made the necessary link between ecological knowledge and the appropriate pro-environmental behavior. This, however, is attributed to the fact that it has never been used before. The results show that there is a significant improvement, both in terms of environmental knowledge acquired and the intentions to adopt eco-friendly environmental behaviors.

This paper aims to unveil the way teachers perceive the presence and efficiency of environmental education in Moroccan high school curricula. It mainly intends to investigate high school teachers' perceptions of the curriculum integration of environmental education content related to awareness and knowledge. This study used a descriptive quantitative method and the research sample consisted of 132 teachers of 11 different school subjects working in 8 high schools in Agadir city and the suburbs. Data was collected through a questionnaire and was analyzed by descriptive statistics techniques. The results revealed that most teachers agree that the level of integration of content relating to environmental awareness and knowledge in the curricula is moderately low and insufficient to meet the learners' needs. Finally, this study suggests that an organized construct of environmental awareness and knowledge elements should be gradually and systematically introduced throughout the school levels and courses by improving future curricula.
Marques y Contreras 2022 Environmental education at secondary school level
revista Conrado, 2022
Environmental education is analyzed in nine groups, 447 students and 20 teachers, in the three grades of a secondary school, in Benguela city, Republic of Angola, Africa. The objective is to assess the characteristics of teaching-learning, group dynamics, and their relationship with environmental education. Elements of environmental management, its contents, and requirements in Africa are considered, together with arguments of the United Nations, UNESCO and others collected in the international scientific literature. Methodologically, a descriptive-explanatory analysis is undertaken from a case study, with purposive sampling, questionnaires are applied to students, teachers, and unstructured interviews to key characters of the studied scenario. To the analysis of historical-cultural, environmental, and curricular documents were added content analysis of each subject program was added. A sociometric test was applied to three groups to describe traits of interpersonal relationships. Statistical processing was carried out with SPSS software, together with other qualitative analyses corresponding to the socio-anthropological perspective. A proposal is constructed highlighting three elements: interdisciplinarity, critical thinking, and the theory-practice relationship in the teaching act. The conclusions reaffirm the hypothesis, verifying that quality in teaching constitutes the basis of environmental education

Environmental education like all forms of education is a process of learning that requires an optimally designed teaching curriculum. However, unlike other conventional courses and forms of education, environmental education is not a linear form of learning as it requires complex and placebased designed teaching due to the individuality and diversity of people and their local environment and biodiversity. Libya like most countries of the world has joined the active fight against climate change through the incorporation of environmental education into the traditional system of education and designing a curriculum for the entire school system to ensure uniformity in learning standards. This study carries out an investigation of the efficiency of the Libyan primary school environmental education curriculum from the perspective of primary school teachers. Using openended questionnaires designed using an adequate theoretical framework, teachers in Libya were surveyed for their perceptions on satisfaction with the curriculum, their dislikes about the curriculum, what they enjoyed the most in the curriculum, and how they prepared using it and the complementary modifications they carry out on it. The results of this study indicate a finding where the majority of the teachers were happy with its efficiency but have recommended several changes to it to enable it to become optimal.
Diagnosis of the Knowledge of Students and Professors About Environmental Education - Case Study.
2021
The objective of this work was to investigate the treatment of the theme Environmental education in a transversal way with the students of the 1st periods of the courses of Buildings and Integrated Sanitation of the IFPE (Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Pernambuco) - Campus Recife, under the perspective of awareness of these students, with mathematics as an important aid tool. The survey took place in July and August 2020, where questionnaires were applied through Google Forms to 80 students. In a second step, another form was sent to the teaching segment, in a total of 50 questionnaires. The questions addressed in the questionnaires to students led to points such as the perception of the existence of environmental problems, also seeking to analyze the degree of understanding of students in relation to mathematics as a support to environmental education. Subsequently, tabulation, statistical treatment and analysis of the data obtained through descriptive statistics were performed. The results revealed that a significant portion of the students came to understand that the environmental issue is not only a matter of nature, but also of society. Although, it should be noted that some of them can better understand what an environmental problem is than fully understand what the environment is. As for the professors, they demonstrated to relate to the current reality of the planet, however, a portion of this segment suggests that the structure of work to approach the theme is not so adequate.

The environment is facing serious challenges like climate change and pollution. Education plays a crucial role in addressing these challenges by raising awareness, promoting sustainable practices, and developing skilled citizens for environmental conservation and sustainable development. This article explores how much three geography textbooks used in Moroccan high schools include environmental education topics. The focus of the research is on four main environmental education themes: ecosystems and cycles, pollution, use of resources, and environment preservation, as well as their subtopics. The research is based on the theoretical framework of the BIOHEAD-CITIZEN project, which aimed to understand how environmental education can encourage citizenship. The research used a mixed-method design that combined content analysis with a convergent parallel approach to examine how much environmental education content is present in Manar Algeographia 1, Alassassi fi Algeographia, and Manar Algeographia 3. The results showed that environmental education integration in these textbooks is effective in increasing students' minimum knowledge, awareness, attitudes, and behavior toward environmental issues. In conclusion, this study suggests ways in which textbooks can be used to enhance students' environmental knowledge, attitudes, and behavior.
Evaluation and Proposals for Improving the Situation of Environmental Education in Morocco
American Journal of Educational Research, 2018
This work aims to highlight the different foundations, actors, tools and approaches of environmental education (EE) and to evaluate the tools and approaches to EE in Morocco based on an intersectorial approach. Research data have been collected via two complementary tools: a questionnaire and face to face interviews. Fourteen questions made our questionnaire that we administered in place or through emails and social media networks. The sample of the research is composed of 720 interviewed. The results show that EE in Morocco is characterized by a diversity of tools and approaches. However, the development of environmental education is faced with several obstacles. Concrete actions in environmental education in Morocco need to be strengthened; Most of them focus on education about the environment. Improvement is needed to fill gaps and to develop EE in the various Moroccan ministerial departments in harmony with the specificities and cultural heritage of the country. To this end, we ...
The Status of Moroccan High School Students’ Environmental Knowledge
INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF MULTIDISCIPLINARY RESEARCH AND ANALYSIS - Volume 05 Issue 08 , 2022
This paper examines the status of Moroccan high school students' environmental knowledge. It aims to test the level of students' knowledge regarding a range of factual and conceptual knowledge of topics related to local and global environmental issues which high school students are supposed to know. The study adopted a quantitative research design and the research sample was made of 524 female and male students belonging to eight public and private high schools in the city Agadir and the suburbs. The descriptive statistics of the knowledge test's scores revealed that students demonstrated insufficient degrees of environmental knowledge both at the levels of factual and conceptual questions. Meanwhile, the results were also indicative of the absence of positive or negative correlations between students'environmental knowledge and their age, gender, stream, school type and grade. Finally, this paper suggests ways to boost students' environmental knowledge to improve their pro-environmental attitudes and behaviors.
Promoting Environmental Education in Moroccan High School ELT Textbooks
International journal of language and literary studies, 2022
This paper examines the extent to which three Moroccan high school ELT textbooks integrate environmental education contents. The analysis focuses on four environmental education topics namely ecosystems and cycles, pollution, use of resources, and environment preservation as well as their subtopics. The study is informed by the theoretical framework developed by the BIOHEAD-CITIZEN project that aimed at understanding how environmental education can promote citizenship. This study adopted a convergent parallel mixed method design using content analysis to investigate the degree of presence of environmental education elements in Visa to the World, Ticket to English, and Ticket 2 English. The results revealed statistical evidences indicating that environmental education integration in these textbooks appeals to the learners’ minimum fundamental environmental knowledge, awareness, attitudes and behaviors. Ultimately, this study suggests ways in which textbooks could contribute to improve students ‘environmental knowledge, attitudes, and behavior.
