A new Multi-agent System for E-health Functionalities
International Journal of Software Engineering and Its Applications, 2013
In recent years Agent technology has had a significant growth in all fields, especially in the field of E-health. Agent-oriented software engineering based on agent-oriented methodology is a novel phenomenon in the field of software engineering, which nowadays, is used in the production of distributed systems. The special features of agent such as intelligence and autonomy, cause reduction in running costs and performing automatic functions in some systems like electronic health which have been implemented by Agent technology. Using New communication technologies, distributed systems and intelligent Agents are also considered as a novel phenomenon in medicine. This paper aims to analyze the Agent-oriented Software engineering, Agent Oriented Programming, Multi Agent System as well as providing agent-based system for the hospital by the utilization of agent characteristics.

Using Multi-Agent Systems to Support e-Health Services
2013
Multi-agent systems have been importantly contributing to the development of the theory and the practice of complex distributed systems and, in particular, have shown the potential to meet critical needs in high-speed, mission-critical content-rich and distributed information applications where mutual interdependencies, dynamic environments, uncertainty, and sophisticated control play a role. Therefore, multi-agent systems can be considered a suitable technology for the realization of applications for providing healthcare and social services where the use of loosely coupled and heterogeneous components, the dynamic and distributed management of data and the remote collaboration among users are often the most relevant requirements.
Agent-Based Architecture for the HealthCare of patients at The Emergency Department
IFAC Proceedings Volumes, 2009
Though multi-agent systems have been explored in a wide variety of medical settings, their role at the emergency department care level has been relatively little investigated. In this paper, we propose a tool to assist decision-making process for the care of patients at the emergency department. This tool aims to improve the quality of care within the emergency departments with rapid access to pertinent data, integration of care's protocols and assures knowledge of the quantity and the quality of medical activity. This multi-agent model was adopted to define the behavior of entities by distributing data and tasks in an attempt to explain and predict events in the emergency department. We have chosen to build intelligent agents that perform coordination tasks for the users, i.e. the medical staff. To solve some problems, the agents have to cooperate. To ensure this cooperation, the system uses an agent interaction protocol making it possible to accelerate the process of task allocation.
Integration of hospital data using agent technologies - A case study
Ai Communications, 2005
Data retrieval and its integration is one of the major problems that face large and complex health organizations. This is especially relevant when patient information is produced in heterogeneous environments. Implementing a Virtual Electronic Patient Record (VEPR) system may provide an adequate and cost-effective solution for most clinical information needs. In this paper, we describe and discuss the use of agent technologies for the retrieval and integration of clinical records in a VEPR, thus making patient information available at any point of care. Between May 2003 and May 2004, a VEPR was designed and implemented at Hospital S. João, a university hospital with over 1.350 beds. An agent-based platform Multi-Agent System for Integration of Data (MAID) ensures the communication among various hospital information systems.

Agent Technology and Healthcare: Possibilities, Challenges and Examples of Application
Studies in Computational Intelligence, 2010
Agent technology has emerged as a promising technology to develop complex and distributed systems. They have been extensively applied in a wide range of healthcare areas in the last 10 years. This chapter introduces the basic aspects and properties of agents and multi-agent systems and argues their adequacy to solve different kinds of problems in healthcare. It also describes several healthcare areas in which this technology has been successfully applied, introducing, in each case, some of the most relevant works. The explanation is illustrated with a more detailed description of two agent-based healthcare applications in which the authors have been involved. One of them automates the enactment of clinical guidelines by coordinating several healthcare entities of a medical organization. The other is a Web-based knowledge-driven platform that supports the execution of personalized Home Care services. The benefits that agent technology brings to those approaches are commented and several lines of future research are enounced.
Agent Based E-Health Care Information System
2011
The increasing level of patients demand across the world obliges governments to face health services in a more flexible and uniform manner. So it is better to building an agent-based information system‟s platform in order to grant home care services close to the patient‟s needs. The Agent computing in a network of workstations is powerful paradigm for building distributed applications. The e-health care is new kinds of health service and it is very popular at this time. Our objective of work describes the design and implementation a system that enhance the capability of small e-health care to uninterrupted service as per the patient demand. In this system all the transaction of data are processed by Patient Agents (PA), Doctor Agents (DA) and Controller Agent (CA). The user uses the Patient Agent (PA) to connect with the controlling server of the e-health care system. The Controller Agent (CA) is control the demand of the patients as well as activity of the doctors. When the doctor ...
Agent. Hospital-agent-based open framework for clinical applications
… Enterprises, 2003. WET …, 2003
Agent.Hospital is an open agent-based (software) framework for distributed applications in the healthcare domain. Previous appropriation of the Agent.Hospital development is application and examination of agent technology in realistic business scenarios and the identification of further research needs. This paper introduces the framework developed by the German Priority Research Program 1083. We describe the initial system concept, currently implemented or specified functionalities and the integration of FIPA standardization activities. The example scenario "clinical trials" illustrates how Agent.Hospital supports distributed clinical processes as well as further research of agent technology.
