AI-generated Abstract
This paper discusses the evolving role of sociology in addressing global crises, emphasizing the need for a transformation in the discipline towards a more interventionist practice, known as 'Global Sociology' and 'Public Sociology'. It reflects on the findings from the International Sociological Association Forum, where discussions highlighted the importance of sociologists engaging with societal issues and civil society. The author advocates for a respectful culture of controversy within the discipline to enhance dynamic debates and effective practices that can connect academic sociology with real-world challenges.

How do you transpose the concept of public sociology into your research agenda, bearing in mind both your local research networks and your international engagement within the ISA? In this article, we argue that Alain Touraine's method of intervention is a way of conducting sociological analysis of collective action and social change, but that it must be developed in different ways. We place the intervention method within the context of Touraine's works on social movements and offer a detailed account. Drawing on the works of Pierre Bourdieu and Alberto Melucci we provide the basis for critically engaging with the method. We explore the methodological rules and procedures and the role of the researcher, and suggest a relatively more open understanding of the method.
