The aim of the chapter is to explain how to incorporate Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into corporate strategy in order to increase the competitive advantage of a company in the long-run. The questions how to set a mission, vision and objectives to prepare annual reports in the field of sustainability will be discussed. Furthermore, motives as to why companies have to consider local and global perspective when setting SD objectives and the problem of conflicts in SD goals will be determined.
Harnessing the Sustainable Development Goals for businesses: A progressive framework for action

Businesses, as with other sectors in society, are not yet taking sufficient action towards achieving sustainability. The United Nations recently agreed upon a set of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which if properly harnessed, provide a framework (so far lacking) for businesses to meaningfully drive transformations to sustainability. This paper proposes to operationalize the SDGs for businesses through a progressive framework for action with three discrete levels: communication, tactical, and strategic. Within the tactical and strategic levels, several innovative approaches are discussed and illustrated. The challenges of design and measurement as well as opportunities for accountability and the social side of Sustainability, together call for transdisciplinary, collective action. This paper demonstrates feasible pathways and approaches for businesses to take corporate social responsibility to the next level and utilize the SDG framework informed by sustainability science to support transformations towards the achievement of sustainability.

This study explores the relationship between the sustainable development goals (SDGs) and corporate sustainability (CS) through a business and human rights (BHR) lens. It affirms established guidance that companies must show respect for human rights. As a new factor, the study considers how corporations recognise civil rights. The authors examine annual reports and other material of five Fortune Global 500 multinational enterprises (MNEs) from five sectors to establish their relationship with UNGPs, SDGs and civil rights. They also review policies and reports to determine the MNEs management system(s) (MS) and system certifications. While the sample is too small to make correlations, the authors find that the sample MNEs do recognise civil rights under the guise of human rights. They appear to address civil rights issues that trend globally, not necessarily the problems that occur on the national or local level. Although the sample countries contribute to SDGs, this engagement seems connected to the MNEs business strategy. Their SDGs involvement can change from one fiscal year to the next, depending on the business strategy. In the study, the authors focus on corporate management systems (MSs) and seek to identify elements of a good MS. They recommend that companies expose their MSs to audit and certification processes to ensure that respect for civil and human rights are embedded in their systems.

It has been quite a time that CSR gained attention of the corporate leaders, who became inclined towards governance and transparency issues pertinently. Amidst this attentiveness, further gained attention the theme of sustainability, which made the corporate brigade redesign their ways of managing business. This paper offers a short but nevertheless, a deep portrayal of the growing concern for sustainability and outlines how the MNE leaders can make a move on contributing towards a better world observing the sustainable development goals (SDGs) as guiding principles. Also, instances of some corporate giants have been discussed, to give a picture of how the cream of the crop enterprises are all set for the attainment of sustainable development. It is an attempt to help the academia and corporate arena gain novel perspectives, on cultivating their approach towards the flaming issue of sustainability and developing such business models that help them manage their responsibility towards the greater concerns in accord with colossal revenues.
Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as a Framework for Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) has been an articulated practice for over 7 decades. Still, most corporations lack an integrated framework to develop a strategic, balanced, and effective approach to achieving excellence in CSR. Considering the world’s critical situation during the COVID-19 pandemic, such a framework is even more crucial now. We suggest subsuming CRS categories under Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) be used and that they subsume CSR categories since SDGs are a comprehensive agenda designed for the whole planet. This study presents a new CSR drivers model and a novel comprehensive CSR model. Then, it highlights the advantages of integrating CSR and SDGs in a new framework. The proposed framework benefits from both CSR and SDGs, addresses current and future needs, and offers a better roadmap with more measurable outcomes.

Sustainable development (SD) -that is, "Development that meets the needs of current genera tions without compromising the ability of future gener ations to meet their needs and aspirations" -can be pursued in many dierent ways. Stakeholder relations management (SRM) is one such way, through which corporations are confronted with economic, social, and environmental stakeholder claims. This paper lays the groundwork for an empirical analysis of the question of how far SD can be achieved through SI^M. It describes the so-called SD-SRM perspective as a distinctive research approach and shows how it relates to the wider body of stakeholder theory. Next, the concept of SD is operationalized for the microeconomic level with refer ence to important documents. Based on the ensuing SD framework, it is shown how SD and SRM relate to each other, and how the two concepts relate to other popular concepts such as Corporate Sustainability and Corporate Social Responsibility. The paper concludes that the significance of societal guiding models such as SD and of management approaches like CSR is strongly dependent on their footing in society.
Sustainable development and corporate social responsibility: a holistic view
Present technological innovations and social organizations continue to impose risks and limitations on the efficient performance of the biosphere. Human activities have increasingly short-lived sustainable natural endowments, to the extent that, the multiplier effects have ripples beyond the traditional benefits of economic production and consumption. Therefore, this study addressed practical concerns on how industries in Sub-Saharan Africa promote sustainable development in their corporate social responsibility models, using industries in Cameroon as a case study; it examined economic, social, and environmental components of sustainable development and corporate social responsibility (CSR). Our sample consists of 335 business enterprises from the last Censure Survey of Enterprises in Cameroon. The study adopted a systematic analysis through the Adjusted Residual Test, and the Phi and Cramer's V tests. Findings revealed that industries in Cameroon prioritize environmental and social dimensions over economic dimensions. However, a few large enterprises implement a broad CSR that promotes sustainable business practices, whereas smaller ones do not; industries in Cameroon implement environmental dimensions of CSR as a safe buffer and a social dimension as philanthropy. Hence, there is no concrete evidence that industries promote sustainable development via CSR in Cameroon. The implementation of a sustainable business model is a precondition for promoting sustainable development via CSR. Industries should realize the concrete value in implementing a sustainable business model that helps to adjust to the complex and increasingly changing business environment.
A System's Approach to Sustainability: Steel Authority of India Limited
This case based research article aims to demonstrate the correlation between strong stakeholder engagement in a company and its ability to uphold United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDG) principles at the national level under the aegis of self-sufficiency initiatives in an emerging market. In India, achieving UNSDGs is a top priority, which is evident from substantial government initiatives and funding. Success hinges on public sector enterprises garnering support from vested stakeholders. The case study focuses on a behemoth Indian Public Sector Unit, PSU-SAIL. It starts by conducting a materiality assessment, connecting it to national UNSDGs for optimal business outcomes. This assessment involves perception mapping, stakeholder prioritization, engagement, and matrix integration. The resultant four-quadrant matrix becomes a tangible output. This helped the company to establish the link between successful UNSDG attainment, high stakeholder engagement, and superior business performance. The findings underscore four key areas where a combination of stakeholder engagement and institutional support can significantly advance Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
