A study on relationship between quality of work life and job satisfaction

A healthy and good work condition is often involved with other factors such as leadership style, management, etc. In this paper, we present an empirical investigation to study the effects of the quality of work life on job satisfaction. The study uses a standard questionnaire and distributes it among all 86 full time employees of two governmental agencies in Iran, Supreme Audit Court and Interior Ministry, and Cronbach alphas has been calculated as 0.92. The main hypothesis of this survey considers the relationship between job satisfaction and quality of work life and there. There are also eleven sub-hypotheses associated with this survey including fair and sufficient payment, safe and healthy work conditions, equal job opportunities, rule of law, service training, integration and social cohesion, human development capabilities, organizational structure, delegation of authority, job satisfaction and employee participation. The results of survey have confirmed that there were some meaningful relationships between the quality of work life on job satisfaction in both organizations.

Job Satisfaction and Its Influential Factors

Background: This study aimed at determining the job satisfaction level of the staff in Shahroud University of Medical Sciences (SUMS), northern Iran, and its influential factors. Methods: In this descriptive study, conducted in 2008, the participants were 384 workers in SUMS selected through simple random sampling procedure. The participants received a 33-item questionnaire in a Likert format (8 general items and 25 items related to job satisfaction facets). The collected data in form of frequencies and percentages were analyzed with SPSS software. Results: 53.4% of interviewees were female and more than 60% had associate or higher degrees. 42.6% had less than 10 yr and 30.9% had 20 to 30 yr of job experience, respectively. The mean of the overall satisfaction was 13.02 out of 20. Regarding the facets of job satisfaction, work, coworkers, supervisor, and promotion had the highest means, respectively. Pearson and Spearman correlation coefficients showed a significant relationship between overall satisfaction and the facets (P= 0.001). Analysis of variance also showed significant difference in overall satisfaction based on organizational units; however, no significant relationship was observed between overall satisfaction and gender, degree, age, job experience and type of employment. Conclusion: Improvement of promotion process, training and qualifying managers, observing meritocracy principles in appointments, using cooperative management, creating convivial and friendly atmosphere and improving work environment conditions, have brought about an increase in overall satisfaction of employees in SUMS.

The Relationship Between Quality of Work Life and Job Satisfaction of Faculty Members in Zahedan University of Medical Sciences

Background: Quality of work life is one of the most important factors for human motivating and improving of job satisfaction. Aim: The current study was carried out aimed to determine the relationship between quality of work life and job satisfaction in faculty members of Zahedan University of Medical Sciences. Method: In this descriptive-analytic study, 202 faculty members of Zahedan University of Medical Sciences in 2012 were entered the study through census. The job satisfaction questionnaire of Smith and Kendall and Walton Quality of Work Life questionnaire were used for data collection. Validity and reliability of questionnaires were confirmed in previous studies. Data analysis was done using SPSS 18. The Pearson correlation coefficient and multiple regression tests were used for data analysis. Result: The mean score of quality of work life was 121/30±37/08 and job satisfaction was 135/98 ±33/78. There was a significant and positive correlation between job satisfaction of faculty members and their quality of work life (P=0.003). In addition, two components of quality of work life "adequate and fair compensation" (=0.3) and "Social Integration" (=0.4) can predict job satisfaction of faculty members. Conclusion: According to correlation between job satisfaction and quality of work life in faculty members, job satisfaction can be improved through the changing and manipulating the components of quality of work life and in this way; the suitable environment for organization development should be provided.

Study on Quality of Work Life among Academicians of Private Technical Educational Institutions: Allahabad City, Uttar Pradesh

The presence of good Quality of work life (QWL) in any organization, generate positive outcomes. Researchers already have done many studies on QWL.But this study is vary from existing literature because in this study we tried to focus on the major problems (QWL related) which is faced by the academicians of technical institutions in Allahabad. The aim of the study was to find out the perceived QWL status of respondents. The sample consists of 100academicians from various Private technical educational institutions in Allahabad.Allahabad is a district of Uttar Pradesh state of India and here 14Private technical educational institutions are currently running. But in the recent days we have seen that the job satisfaction level of the academicians is continuously going down while there interested area for job is teaching. And job satisfaction is directly related with the work life. The Questionnaire was designed based on the attributes and variables of QWL reviews and questionnaire from previous studies. This study was aims to find out the major factors which are affecting the QWL and give the appropriate suggestions for better improvement. Findings of this study show that the QWL of the respondents is not in better situation. There are many factors exist which are highly affecting the QWL level of the respondents. Mainly Salary, Biasness in assigning the duties and leave.

Effect of Job Satisfaction Factors on Employee Performance (A Study in selected Public Sector Banks in India)

A high level of quality of work life is essential for an organization to retain its talented workforce and also to attract new talent into the organization. This is an attempt to understand the quality of work life of employees with special reference to manufacturing organizations with an objective to identify the relationship between the demographic factors and level of quality of worklife perceived by them and identify the factors with which the employees are not satisfied. The descriptive research design was used in this study with a sample size of 100 using a convenience sampling technique. A questionnaire was circulated among the permanent employees of the organization to collect their responses on 9 influencing factors of quality of work life and the data was analyzed using statistical tools like ANOVA, Chi-Square test, Friedman test, and descriptive statistics. The analysis of the data pointed out that employees are satisfied with all the factors except Grievances in workplace and Stress in workplace, their demographic factors like age, gender, etc. does not influence their perception but factors like department of work and years of association has an influence on their perception on the quality of work life.

Not only is job satisfaction important per se, but, according to its effect upon other aspects of career perspective, it also possesses investing value. As a matter of fact, through increase in job satisfaction, other aspects of job perspectives such as organizational commitment, job involvement and organizational atmosphere are improved. Job satisfaction is included among important factors in job success and it results in a boost in efficiency and also a sense of personal satisfaction. In accordance with the results and the research findings of the most of experts and thought leaders, neglecting and underestimating the motivating factors among managers strongly reduces their efficiency capabilities and job satisfaction. This study aimed at determining the degree of the relationship between job satisfaction and efficiency of managers at guidance schools in Qom, Iran. The statistical population of this survey included 71 managers (both men and women) of the schools under study, chosen through random sampling. The approach of the study was causal-comparative correlation in a couple of descriptive and analytical levels. In the descriptive statistics level, the frequency, percentage, mean, median were being used, while in inferential statistics the research makes use of Pearson correlation coefficient, Spearman and ttest with two independent groups. The testing instrument was Job Descriptive Index (JDI, including 40 questions) and management performance questionnaires (including 81 questions) which is codified by Visouki and Chrome in 1991. Analyzing the information achieved from 71 questionnaire (36 men and 35 women) on the basis of the goals and testing the study hypotheses we found there was a relationship between job satisfaction and management efficiency; however, this relationship is not meaningful.
