A Study on Learners’ Readiness and Perceptions of the Implementation of Blended Learning in UiTM Kedah (original) (raw)

Blended Learning in Higher Education: Learners' Perspectives

This research study was conducted on the prevailing learners' perceptions and preferences towards Blended Learning in Higher Education. This was a case study involving one private University in Kenya. The purpose of the study was to assess the learners' perspectives of Blended Learning, identify their experiences and make recommendations for improvement of program design and delivery. The study design adopted a mixed research approach and was situated within Garrison (2008) theoretical framework of Community of Inquiry (CoL). The research addressed the following research objectives: What are the reasons for choosing the Blended Learning program? What are the learners' perceptions towards the quality of preparation and delivery of blended learning programs? How do learners compare the Blended Learning and traditional classroom learning? What are the suggestions for the future development of Blended Learning? Participants were drawn from cohorts of learners enrolled at different stages of study in the Blended Learning program at the University. A purposive sampling technique was used to identify participants. The participants responded to questionnaire that was emailed to them by their course instructors. The completed questionnaires were subsequently emailed back to the researcher. Analysis of data was done using descriptive and inferential statistics. Pearson-Product moment correlation coefficient was used to describe relationships between variables. The findings from the study indicate that when there is greater social and teaching presence, learner's satisfaction increases. Provision of support in terms of teaching presence and instructional resources needs to be enhanced. Facilitators of Blended Learning courses have to be more proactive and initiate frequent online discussions to enrich their courses.

Learning in a blended learning environment: needs and influencing factors

Towards a new future in engineering education, new scenarios that european alliances of tech universities open up

In blended learning, students have the opportunity to choose either online or classroom lectures. For higher education institutions, blended learning has many advantages, such as accessibility to students and teachers, cost efficiency, alleviation of the teacher shortage, etc. But what does this mean for the students? The aim of the study is to find out students' further need for blended learning, its reasons and factors influencing it. An online survey was conducted to answer the research questions. The collected data was analyzed by using statistical analysis methods. The results of the survey revealed that the technical prerequisites for students to participate in blended learning were met. The biggest problems are related to the self-regulation skills of students. Problems with blended learning are stronger among first-year students. However, the respondents were rather positive about blended learning. Blended learning is most strongly supported by distance learning students...

Blended Learning: An Evaluation of Learner Perceptions at Saudi Electronic University

Information Science Letters, 2023

This study explores students' perceptions of blended learning in a Saudi higher education institution; namely, the Saudi Electronic University. SEU is the only university in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia that offers undergraduate degree programs in complete mandatory Blended Learning mode of education in all courses. The study describes the actual utilization of online learning represented by Blackboard as the official Learning Management System in SEU and to evaluate students' satisfaction with the learning experience. The respondents in the study were 63 learners of English Language and Translation Program and they were administered an online questionnaire in three parts to obtain feedback on possible areas of blended learning that needed changes. Results showed that the learners at SEU had positive perceptions of the blended learning approach and were appreciative of the fact that this allowed them freedom to pursue their occupations and education simultaneously. Further findings showed that a small section of learners found it challenging to study in a non-traditional university; it is recommended that deeper inquiry be launched into the reasons for this. The study concludes with pertinent recommendations for the education policy makers and educationists at SEU.

Pedagogical Perception of University Teachers towards Blended Learning

Blended Learning is a mix of pedagogical approaches that combines the effectiveness and the socialization opportunities of the classroom with the technological enhancements of online learning (Dziuban, Hartman, Juge, Moskal, & Sorg, 2006). The present study aims to examine the pedagogical perceptions of the University Teachers towards Blended Learning for enhancing the teaching learning experiences in Higher Education. The researcher also attempted to investigate the challenges faced by the University Teachers in providing Blended Learning to the students. The sample of respondents selected for study comprised of 120 University Teachers chosen from different departments of the University of Calcutta. The teachers were found to understand the significance and benefits of Blended Learning however some of them were found to face various challenges in providing Blended Learning to students. But with necessary measures a successful blended learning environment can be provided through which academic advancement of students can be made possible.

Implementation of Blended Learning in Teaching at the Higher Education Institutions of Pakistan

International Journal of Advanced Computer Science and Applications

Blended learning has emerged as one of the solutions to address the various needs of Higher Education Institutions around the world. Blended Learning is the combination of traditional classroom and online endeavour. It provides advantages of both face to face learning and e-learning. The main purpose of this study is to assess the adaptation level of blended learning in teaching process at Higher Education Institutions. This study carried out mixed method approach by using explanatory sequential model. Teachers of general public universities were included as the sample for this study. Questionnaire and interview techniques were used as data gathering tools. The main findings of this study showed that teachers have a positive perception for technology usage in teaching process. Most of the teachers possessed expertise in the use of different software and equipped with internet skills. The study concluded that in blended learning implementation, universities are still at awareness level and a lot of efforts are required for effective implementation of blended learning. It is recommended that the universities' administration should provide an extra computing infrastructure (e.g. servers, bandwidth, and storage capacity) to run the courses in blended format. We recommend that in strategic plan of the universities the blended learning should be well defined and highlighted.

Explaining the impact of blended learning on relevant factors in west Tehran Payame Noor University

By advances in information technology and considering the fast pace of innovation in targeted technologies, blended learning with the aim of satisfying the needs of blended learning is composed of online learning and face-to-face learning. The aim of the present paper is to study the impact of blended learning on the relevant factors through a mixed method. The study is considered fundamental in terms of research methodology. The present paper is carried out on students of West Tehran Payame Noor University, Iran through a questionnaire. According to the results, it is concluded from the perspective of students that although blended learning is formed of several factors such as face-to-face learning and virtual learning, this type of learning has significant impact on its constituent elements as well as on relevant factors related to this type of learning. Finally, the effectiveness of blended learning, virtual and face-to-face learning in accordance on their factors were determined and assessed which ultimately led to conclusions and recommendations to advance research objectives.

Assessment of the Blended Learning Implementation in Higher Education: Students' Readiness Perspective

International Journal of Advanced Science and Technology, 2020

Blended learning is widely recognized as new teaching method in providing 21 st century learning skills. The growing body of literatures emphasis the use of technology in the classroom to enhance their learning experience. However, initial efforts of ten meet challenges due to resistance for change. Thus, there is a need to examine the readiness o f blended learning practice among undergraduates in university and critical successful factors as enabler conditions. Structured equation analysis using Partia l Least Square (PLS) provided significant support for the theoretical model. In specific, we foun d that technology access, online communication self-efficacy, online media and attitudes are significant to readiness. However, technical usage self-efficacy has no significant support on readiness. This study provides insightful perspectives for Higher Education Institutions to intensify the technology usage effectively in classroom for better performance.
