Diagnosis of Entrepreneurial Spirits among Restaurateurs in Malaysia An Empirical Evidence Using Structural Equation Modelling

2016

Managing product innovations that hold future success in today’s competitive and dynamic global markets reflects on the firm’s domains of entrepreneurship man oeuvres. This research diagnoses the entrepreneurial spirits of restaurateurs in Malaysia by examining their entrepreneurial orientations (EOs) when engaging into new product innovation. The results of the Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) indicated that ‘the spirit of risk-taking’one of the nine-domain of EOs that were based upon in this study (Salavou & Lioukas, 2003) – appeared to be unfounded. The eight-domain of EOs was then structured into two-dimensional construct model, and subsequently, tested of its model fit indexes using a covariancebased structural equation modelling (AMOS). The implication of these findings is discussed along with the limitations and future direction of this study. Entrepreneurial, strategy and performance in restaurants and similars

Revista Brasileira de Administração Científica

Restaurants tend to be small businesses, operated almost in a self managed way, by their entrepreneur owners or a contracted manager. The way these managers conduct their business depends much on their individual abilities to run the company. This research aimed to investigate the possibly existing influences between individual entrepreneurial orientation (IEO), service strategy (SS) and business performance (BP). A construct was developed to run the study, including hypothesis joining the three influences. Questionnaires using Likert scale were built and validated. Survey was conducted with 260 restaurant, bars and hotel owners or managers. Data were analyzed through modeling of structural equations. Results confirmed the three hypothesis: H1: IEO positively influences SS; H2: IEO positively influences BP; H3: SS positively influences BP. Theoretical contributions were made through the construct building. Managerial implications are listed, in order to help restaurant management be...

Online questionnaires were used as the instrument to collect data, and the data were analyzed by deception analysis to illustrate various features of the variables studied. Hypothesis test was conducted by Partial Least Square Path Modeling (SEM-PM). The MSME population was 231 and the representative sample was 144 culinary companies. It was found that entrepreneurial skills, benchmarking, and performance of culinary MSME innovations tended to be lower than expected. The results of this study revealed that entrepreneurship and benchmarking skills had significant effects on innovation performance. Impact of Effective Entrepreneurship and Strategic Management on Business Success: An Empirical Study of SMEs in Malaysia

Global Journals™ Incorporated, 2018

Purpose: This study aims to explore and develop a clearer understanding of the factors that influence success in Malaysian small and medium enterprises by implementing entrepreneurship and strategic management, as perceived by local owner and/or managers. Design/Methodology/Approach: Using a qualitative approach, fifteen in-depth face-to-face semi-structured interviews were conducted with selected owner-managers of SMEs, forming a judgmental selection, to explore their experiences, beliefs, and attitudes with respect to the external factors of success. Findings: The study suggested that there are three generalized factors that influence success and performance in SMEs based on the entrepreneur's perceptions: the "owner and manager attributes" which involves the language skills factor, financial and networking partnership, and business characteristics with a focus on the location factor, which was mainly associated with the selected districts in Malaysia. The importance of financial resources stemmed from the substantial challenges faced by SMEs in Malaysia. A response to these challenges often adopted an equity model of financial resources. Furthermore, the concepts of conduct, equipment, and commitments, clearly explained the importance of a good infrastructure to the appreciation of success in this type of business. The Effect of Conceptual Factors on Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises Business Success in Malaysia

Information Management and Business Review, 2023

This study was purposely conducted to examine the influence of conceptual factors such as external environment (i.e. government support and information access) and managerial expertise (i.e. business planning and entrepreneurial skills) on SMEs business success in Malaysia. The main objectives are to examine which factors that influences most on SMEs' business success. A survey was administered through a face-to-face approach to 115 individuals who run the SME business. We utilized SPSS version 20 software and analyzed the data using multiple regression analysis to test the hypothesis. Findings showed a significant relationship between all tested variables (government support, information access, business planning & entrepreneurial skills) and the dependent variable (business success of SME). Through multiple regression analysis, although all variables tested have a significant effect on SMEs' success, however, a greater influence is shown by entrepreneurial skills on the probability of SMEs' success. Findings are expected to contribute to improve the understanding of the obstacles or challenges that might be faced by SMEs. These findings also benefit policymakers and development partners to formulate policies related to improvement for SMEs. The useful information will help the SMEs continue to grow. At the same time, the government also can promote the development of competitive, innovative, and resilient SMEs through effective coordination and provision of business support that focuses on improving entrepreneurial skills. The research is useful for development partners in developing programs including searching for funds. Lastly, this study hopes to contribute to the body of knowledge concerning SMEs in Malaysia.
