The study also utilized multi-stage sampling design. First, three divisional police headquarters were purposively selected in the study area. Second, nine police posts were purposively chosen from the divisional police headquarters selected. Third, one hundred and seventeen respondents were chosen from the selected police posts using purposive sampling technique. Data were collected using semi-structured questionnaire and the data collected were processed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences version 22, and statistically analysed using frequencies, percentage and weighted mean while Pearson product correlation and Levene's independent t-test for equality of variance were used to test the study hypotheses. The results of the study show that respondents in the sampled area had low level of job satisfaction and high turnover intentions; these were however influenced by combination of factors such as poor compensation package (including salary and fringe benefits), work overload, irregular promotion and career advancement. Based on these findings, the study concludes with recommendations application of which will not only help the police organisation to reduce job dissatisfaction and turnover intentions among its personnel in the rural areas but also serve as the organisation personnel retention strategy.

Regression analysis revealed the following findings. First, role ambiguity and physical environment had negative and non-significant relationship with job satisfaction. Second, coworker support had moderately positive significant influence with job satisfaction. Third, there was a positive non-significant relationship between supervisor support and job satisfaction. Fourth, there was a positive significant relationship between coworker support and job satisfaction. Previous studies have linked workplace hazards, workforce ethics, poor remuneration, low morale and insufficient training as factors impacting police officers' stressful job conditions. To the knowledge of the researcher no current study has taken a holistic assessment of the determinants of job stress among police officers specifically in southwest Nigeria. This study investigates the role of operational stressors, perceived citizen hostility, work environment, work-shift, present job assignment as determinants of job stress among police personnel. The study was anchored on Transactional process model and Job Demand-Control theories. The study adopted the cross-sectional survey design. The study was conducted in Zones two (2) and eleven (11) of the Nigeria Police Force. Zone two comprises of Lagos and Ogun state commands while zone eleven comprises of Ondo, Osun and Oyo state commands due to their proximity. Multi-stage sampling technique was adopted for this study. More than Two-third (63.3%) were males while 36.7% were females. About half (54.0%) were 31-40 years of age, with secondary (33.3%) Diploma (31.9%) First degree (25.2%) and post graduate (6.8%) education. Their current position include; administrative duties (29.7%) Investigation (28.2%), Intelligence anti-robbery squad (9.1%) guard duty (6.6%) patrol (7.0%) prosecution (2.6%) and marine policing (3.3%) among others. The police officers and men responded to questionnaire and two hypotheses were tested using descriptive statistics, Pearson Production moment correlation (PPMC) and Multiple regression analysis at 0.05 level of significance. Result demonstrated that work environment (β =.22,p<.05), perceived citizen hostility(r =.15,p<.05), transformational leadership style(r =.21,p<.05), transactional leadership style(r =.32,p<.05), laissez faire leadership style (r =.38,p<.05), and present job assignment, work experience (r =.28,p<.05) were significantly correlate job stress among police personnel. Shift work (β = .39, t =5.07, p<.05), perceived citizen hostility (β=.129; p<.05), working environment, present job assignment to experience (β=-.263; p<.05), transformational leadership style (β=-.182; p<.05), transactional leadership style (β=.273; p<.05), laissez faire leadership style (β=.269; p<.05) predicted job stress among police personnel. The significance of job satisfaction in any organizational setting and work environment, including law enforcement cannot be over-emphasized. This is due to the fact that job satisfaction has the tendency to influence work productivity, staff turnover, labor market behavior, work effort, and employee morale. Job satisfaction has long been the subject of discussion among academic scholars, industrialists, researchers, as well as in the business community. The study critically examined the correlates of job satisfaction from the organizational viewpoint among officers of the Nigeria Police. Data was collected through mail in survey from 500 police officers across the country for over a period of three months of which 437 of the surveys were found valid for data analysis, representing 72.8% response rate. The results suggest that "the work itself, remuneration/pay, promotion opportunities, and supervision had significant impact on job satisfaction while co-workers had no significant correlation with the officers' job satisfaction.

All over the world, the police is an important arm of government which is responsible for the enforcement of law and order. No nation could excel without a well-trained and disciplined force that could protect life and property of the citizens. One fundamental problem that could militate against efficient and excellent policing is job burnout. Job burnout among police personnel most especially in Nigeria has been under-reported in research despite the effort of some researchers. Investigating job burnout is therefore important among the police officers, not only in terms of their well-being but also in terms of improving their performance in the face of peace-threatening activities that are currently threatening the coexistence of the nation. This study, therefore, investigated demographic factors (age, marital status, educational level and year of experience) and job burnout amongst police officers in Oyo state, Nigeria. The study adopted a survey research design of ex-post facto type. Multistage random sampling technique was used to select two hundred and twenty (220) police officers from the six area commands in the state. The participants responded to Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI 0.87) to measure their level of job burnout. Data were analysed using analysis of variance and Duncan post hoc test. Results from the analysis indicated significant differences between marital status, educational level, job tenure, age, and the concept of job burnout among the police officers. Implications and recommendations for stakeholders were discussed.
