Orthostatic h ypotension (original) (raw)
Orthostatic hypotension (OH) is a common cause of syncope, particularly in the elderly and those with autonomic dysfunction. Its prevalence ranges from 5 to 30% in older adults, with symptoms that can severely affect quality of life. The diagnosis is typically made through blood pressure measurements during head-up tilt tests, yet the study highlights the need for improved and standardized diagnostic strategies. Treatment options are discussed, including pharmacological interventions like ephedrine and non-pharmacological measures such as increased fluid and salt intake. Future research is encouraged to establish more definitive therapeutic guidelines.
