A Traceable Vaccine Supply Management System (original) (raw)

Blockchain Based Framework for COVID-19 Vaccine Delivery using Smart Contracts

A blockchain is a continuously expanding list of documents known as blocks that are connected together via cryptography. A smart contract is a computer program that executes itself in accordance with the terms of a contract. In Traditional vaccine delivery systems, vaccine delivery information is not visible to all the supply chain entities, thereby prone to data tampering. Thus, transparency is the biggest concern in this system. In the case of the COVID-19 pandemic, the rapid launch of a vaccine and the implementation of a worldwide vaccination campaign is crucial, but their success depends on the availability of an operable and transparent distribution chain that all necessary stakeholders can assess. In the proposed work, we show how blockchain technology may be used to enable transparent tracing of COVID-19 vaccination registration, storage, and distribution and self-reporting of side effects by constructing a prototype using smart contracts.

A Literature Survey on Vaccine safe Health Tracker based on blockchain technology

IRJET, 2022

We present a method for immutability and data integrity of vaccination registration using blockchain technology, preventing identity theft and impersonation. Using this project, a vaccination system is designed to connect healthcare providers' vaccination records with each other for data storage purposes. Anyone with authorization to participate in the network could access the data of beneficiaries, including colleges funded by both the federal and state governments. Vaccine producers define safe handling rules and Smart Contracts are used to monitor and trade-off those rules in accordance with the distribution conditions. Network labels are used to identify the networks involved as well. There are transparent and tamper-proof solutions for self-reporting side effects of vaccine administration, taking into account both the beneficiary and the administrator.

A Traceable Blockchain-Based Vaccination Record Storage and Sharing System

Journal of Healthcare Engineering, 2022

Blockchain technology is essentially a decentralized database maintained by relevant parties and has been widely used in various scenarios such as logistics and finance. In terms of applications in the medical field, it is becoming more and more important because the patient's symptoms may be related to a certain vaccine. Whether the patient has been vaccinated with this vaccine will lead to different diagnostic results by the doctor. However, in the current vaccination environment of many regions, the vaccination record (VR) can only be kept in the patient’s vaccination booklet, which is easy to lose or destroy. Therefore, the doctor needs to retrieve the patient’s VR through a centralized database maintained by the government, which is time-consuming and will increase the medical risk. This study proposes a traceable blockchain-based vaccination record storage and sharing system. In the proposed system, the patient gets the vaccination at any legal clinic and the VR can be sav...

Blockchain technology for a Safe and Transparent Covid-19 Vaccination

In late 2019, we witnessed the apparition of the covid-19 virus. The virus appeared first in Wuhan, and due to people travel was spread worldwide. Exponential spread as well as high mortality rates, the two characteristics of the SARS-CoV-2 virus that pushed the entire world into a global lockdown. Health and economic crisis, along with social distancing have put the globe in a highly challenging situation. Unprecedented pressure on the health care system exposed many loopholes not only in this industry but many other sectors, which resulted in a set of new challenges that researchers and scientists among others must face. In all these circumstances, we could attend, in a surprisingly short amount of time, the creation of multiple vaccine candidates. The vaccines were clinically tested and approved, which brought us to the phase of vaccination. Safety, security, transparency, and traceability are highly required in this context. As a contribution to assure an efficient vaccination campaign, in this paper we suggest a Blockchain-based system to manage the registration, storage, and distribution of the vaccines.

Blockchain Enabled Transparent and Anti-Counterfeiting Supply of COVID-19 Vaccine Vials

Vaccines

The COVID-19 pandemic has profoundly affected almost all facets of peoples’ lives, various economic areas and regions of the world. In such a situation implementation of a vaccination can be viewed as essential but its success will be dependent on availability and transparency in the distribution process that will be shared among the stakeholders. Various distributed ledgers (DLTs) such as blockchain provide an open, public, immutable system that has numerous applications due the mentioned abilities. In this paper the authors have proposed a solution based on blockchain to increase the security and transparency in the tracing of COVID-19 vaccination vials. Smart contracts have been developed to monitor the supply, distribution of vaccination vials. The proposed solution will help to generate a tamper-proof and secure environment for the distribution of COVID-19 vaccination vials. Proof of delivery is used as a consensus mechanism for the proposed solution. A feedback feature is also...

Blockchain for global vaccinations efforts: State of the art, challenges, and future directions

International Journal of Electrical and Computer Engineering (IJECE), 2023

The emergence of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) global crisis negatively affected all aspects of human life. One of the most important methods used worldwide to survive this global crisis is the vaccination process to circumvent the proliferation of this pandemic. Many restrictions were alleviated in many countries such as access to public facilities and events. There is a huge amount of data about vaccination campaigns that are collected and maintained worldwide. Although the vaccination data can be analyzed to find out how the alleviation of restrictions can be applied if the data management process requires preserving key aspects like trust, transparency, and availability for easy and reliable access to such data. In this regard, blockchain technology is an excellent choice for meeting the requirements and providing a secure trusted framework for global verification. In this article, the related literature on blockchain technology is surveyed and summarized for all systems that embody solutions. The pros and cons of each solution are presented and provide a comparative summary. Furthermore, a detailed analysis is given to present the current problems and provide a promising mechanism to verify the vaccinated persons anywhere in the world, in a secure manner while retaining individual privacy.
