Tāhir al-Mawlavī was a poet, writer, Mawlawī grandfather, Methnevī reader, Methnevī commentator and one of the great Ṣūfīs who lived in the last periods of the Ottoman Empire and the first quarter of the Republic. Tāhir al-Mawlavī, who was a productive personality, left behind nearly a hundred works, large and small. Among these works, what makes him important in terms of the history of Ṣūfism is his commentary on the Methnevī. The Methnevī Commentary was based on the notebooks that he kept with him when he taught Methnevī in Fātih, Süleymāniye and for a while in Lāleli Mosques. Tāhir al-Mawlavī made his commentary with the necessary corrections and additions. Tāhir al-Mawlavī, with the period he lived and the mission he undertook, became one of the bridge figures between the Ottoman and Republican periods. By making the people conscious of religion and morality with both oral and written publications on Ṣūfism and morality, it was able to be a solution to some extent in eliminating the spiritual hunger in the Republican period. He tried to meet the needs of people in this regard by producing religious and moral texts for the public at a time when everything belonging to the past was rejected altogether. According to Tāhir al-Mawlavī, the characteristics that a person with good morals should have; truthfulness, modesty, generosity, benevolence, patience (ṣabr), gratitude (s̲ h̲ ukūr), tawakkul, consent, frugality, sobriety, bravery, kindness and smiling face. In the study, moral virtues that should be found in a person will be pointed out from the perspective of Tāhir al-Mawlavī.
