Academic Performance of University Students: A Case in a Higher Learning Institution

This research is to identify the relationships and main factors of academic performance degree students in a Higher Learning Institution. The researcher can see the increasing number of students did not graduate on time based on the data provided and it means the students did not perform well in their studies. This research was done by conducting a survey using the questionnaires were distributed to the students in the campus based on list name given by head of faculty. The degree students involved were from semester 4 and 5. The total of sample size is according to Krejcie & Morgan, (1970). The data from questionnaires were analyzed by Statistical Package for the Social Science (SPSS) version 23. The result analyzed using reliability analysis, frequency analysis, descriptive analysis, correlation analysis and multiple regressions. The results from the analysis show that this variable will lead to the academic performance towards degree students. The highest beta value is teaching and learning process. In a conclusion, this research gives some valuable information to the researcher, organization and the reader which is useful for basic knowledge. Moreover, the researcher also has recommended few strategies or ideas such as teachers need to create more on the ideas of teaching process, the institution need to take care of the students needs related to their learning process, and more concern on poor students in order to help them in academic performance among degree students semester 4 and 5 in the university.

The main objective of this study is to identify factors affecting the academic performance of undergraduate students of Raya University (RU), Maichew, Ethiopia. In order to achieve the stated objectives of the research a stratified sampling was used to select 146 students from 17 departments of the university. To analyze the collected data and to investigate factors affecting the academic performance of undergraduate students the ordinary list square (OLS) and Tobit regression methods were used. The findings reviled the existence of significance relationship between the student’s university cumulative grade point average (UCGPA) and preparatory CGPA, gender deference, place of origin, college of the student, mismatch between teaching and learning style and student’s expectation about their future job opportunity. The above independent variables are statistically significant and they are the major determinants of students’ academic performance. However, variables like, age, study hour, entrance exam result, participation in cooperative learning program, mother’s educational level and department choice were insignificant. Finally, the study recommends that Raya University, the Ethiopian ministry of education, students and students’ families, policy makers and other concerned body should work hard towards improving students’ academic performance, by considering aforementioned determinant factors.

The students' academic performance (CGPA) plays an important role in producing the best quality graduates as well as the country's economic and social development. So, for the sustainable economic and social development of a country, it is essential to produce the best quality graduates who will lead the country in near future. Normally, the quality of a student is represented by academic performance which is determined by Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA). Basically, the study is conducted with the objective of investigating the factors affecting academic performance at undergraduate level in Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University. This paper aims to identify the most important and significant factors. There are many factors that contribute to determine whether the CGPA is excellent, moderate or low. Simple Random Sampling has been used to collect data. A sample of 250 undergraduate students' information was taken. Among the respondents in that sample size, male students are 130 and female 120. Findings shows that family responsibility, average study hour per day before exam or during preparatory leave (PL) have positive impact and positive association with CGPA. On the contrary, spending more time on tuition or part time job have a negative impact on CGPA. Dissatisfaction on studying subject, current education system and job market have significant impact on CGPA which is negative. Job related preparation alongside academic study has a negative impact on CGPA. One thing we have noticed that students who are not satisfied with their studying subject and dissatisfied about the current education system and job market in Bangladesh; their CGPA is lower than those who are satisfied.

Education institution has always emphasis on its student's performance. Pupil's educational success is part of the concern for high-level education different studies are conducted to evaluate different causes which affect student's academic results. The study's purpose is to understand more about the elements that affect student accomplishment. It was quantitative research in nature the objectives of this study are some factors like learning facilities, students' interest, and peer group effect BS and Master students' performance at BZU, Multan. The study's sample consists of 201 students drawn from one-third of social science departments utilizing multi-stage sampling and questionnaires as a data collecting instrument. Through the linear regression it was found that student's academic performance is affected by the learning facility and students' interest while the influence of peer group does not play any role in academic performance of students. Future research is needed to investigate other factors like student personality factors, home background, institutional and friends' agents.

Factors Contributing to Students’ Academic Performance in the Education College at Dammam University

The objective of this research was to identify and analyze different factors influencing academic achievement. A survey was conducted by using a questionnaire for information gathering about learning preferences, entry qualifications, class size, number of hours studying, student's competence in English, gender, age, family income, parents' education level and students' area. The result of their first-grade annual examination gauged the academic performance. Pearson's correlation coefficient, multiple regression analysis, independent samples t-test and non-parametric test were used to analyze the data collected. The estimated effect of studying indicates that student's learning preferences, number of daily study hour and secondary average positively affect student's achievement, also, English language level has a positive influence on students' academic performance. The results show that female perform better than male students and married students realize significantly more academic success than single. While, class size, age, residential area of student, family size, family income and parents' education level have no significant influence.

University is one of the places where a systematically organized and scientifically oriented education is offered. It is through such an organized manner that the knowledge, skill and desired attitude of the learner develop, but in a given class it is sometimes seen that there is a difference in achievement as a result of different factors that affect the academic achievement of students. This study was conducted to examine different factors influencing the academic performance of students in higher institution case of Rift valley university Jimma campus Ethiopia. Cross sectional study design was examined. The respondents for this study was 294 students which is determined using simple random sampling technique. A survey was conducted by using a questionnaire for information gathering about different factors relating to academic performance of students. Chi-square test of association and regressions was applied to investigate the effect of different factors on students’ achievement.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the psychological factors affecting students' academic performance among freshman psychology students in Dire Dawa University. The participants of the study were 16 first year students. The sample of this study was taken through purposive sampling technique. To collect data, questionnaire and observation check lists were used. The findings of this study also revealed that there was significant relationship between psychological factors and students' academic performance. There is statistically significant relationship between students self-efficacy and students intrinsic motivation (r=.206; P<0.05) and also there is strong correlation between students stress level and intrinsic motivation (r=.540; P<0.05) and there is also statistically significant relationship between students stress level and extrinsic motivation (r=.265; P<0.05).
