Abstract Music and Audio Information Search System (MAISS) is a web-based application using ontologies and inference engine to search multimedia documents. In MAISS, users run queries in web pages for retrieving data about albums, artists, audio files, audio file formats, encoding audio files, genre, instrument, key, note, official, resource, rhythm, etc.
Music domain ontology applications for intelligent web searching
The Semantic Web is an extension of the current Web that attempts to reach a state in the future where everything on the Web will no longer be only machine-readable, but also machine-understandable. Three important technologies for developing the Semantic Web are already in place: Extensible Markup Language (XML), the Resource Description Framework (RDF), and Web Ontology Language (OWL). An ontology language is a formal language used to encode ontologies. An ontology is an explicit specification of a conceptualization. Many disciplines now develop standardized ontologies that domain experts can use to share and annotate information in their fields, and which can be used for reasoning about the objects within a particular domain. It includes machine-interpretable definitions of basic concepts in the domain and relations among them. In this work, we develop an ontology of Argentinean music. Despite being highly specific, we illustrate how such an ontology can be expanded and used in applications that carry out complex music related searches. These applications can be embedded later on in electronic devices with some form of wireless networking capability, such as mobile phones, enriching their current functionality.
Orchestrating Music Queries via the Semantic Web

An ontology based search engine helps in identifying the most efficient and useful result for the input query. The result produced by the ontology based search engines are purely based on the literal meaning of the word in the given sentence. It does not take the keyword in the given sentence; instead it takes the meaning of the query submitted. The presence of huge amount of resources on the Web thus poses a serious problem of accurate search. This is mainly because today’s Web is a human-readable Web where information cannot be easily processed by machine. Highly sophisticated, efficient keyword based search engines that have evolved today have not been able to bridge this gap. Publishing Music Similarity Features on the Semantic Web
We describe the process of collecting, organising and publishing a large set of music similarity features produced by the SoundBite [10] playlist generator tool. These data can be a valuable asset in the development and evaluation of new Music Information Retrieval algorithms. They can also be used in Web-based music search and retrieval applications. For this reason, we make a database of features available on the Semantic Web via a SPARQL end-point, which can be used in Linked Data services. We provide examples of using the data in a research tool, as well as in a simple web application which responds to audio queries and finds a set of similar tracks in our database.
Information Retrieval on Web: Ontology based Vs Traditional Search Engines

Information Retrieval has become the buzzword in the today’s era of advanced computing. The tremendous amount of information is available over the Internet in the form of documents which can either be structured or unstructured. It is really difficult to retrieve relevant information from such large pool. The traditional search engines based on keyword search are unable to give the desired relevant results as they search the web on the basis of the keywords present in the query fired. On contrary the ontology based semantic search engines provide relevant and quick results to the user as the information stored in the semantic web is more meaningful. The paper gives the comparative study of the ontology based search engines with those which are keyword based. Few of both types have been taken and same queries are run on each one of them to analyze the results to compare the precision of the results provided by them by classifying the results as relevant or non-relevant.
Ontology-based search and document retrieval in a digital library with folk songs1

The paper discusses some aspects of a work in progress aimed at the development of technologies for digitization of Bulgarian folk music and building a digital library with Bulgarian folk songs presented with their music, texts and notes. This library provides digital preservation of the sound recordings, lyrics and notations of more than 1000 Bulgarian folk songs and tools for various types of search and analysis of the available resources. The presentation is focused on the subject ontology especially developed for the occasion and its application in the implementation of a tool for semantics oriented search in the lyrics of songs.
Towards the Ontology Web Search Engine

The project of the Ontology Web Search Engine is presented in this paper. The main purpose of this paper is to develop such a project that can be easily implemented. Ontology Web Search Engine is software to look for and index ontologies in the Web. OWL (Web Ontology Languages) ontologies are meant, and they are necessary for the functioning of the SWES (Semantic Web Expert System). SWES is an expert system that will use found ontologies from the Web, generating rules from them, and will supplement its knowledge base with these generated rules. It is expected that the SWES will serve as a universal expert system for the average user.

The World Wide Web (WWW) allows people to share information or data from the large database repositories globally. We need to search the information with specialized tools known generically as search engines. There are many search engines available today, where retrieving meaningful information is difficult. However to overcome this problem of retrieving meaningful information intelligently in common search engines, semantic web technologies are playing a major role. In this paper we present a different implementation of semantic search engine and the role of semantic relatedness to provide relevant results. The concept of Semantic Relatedness is connected with Wordnet which is a lexical database of words. We also made use of TF-IDF algorithm to calculate word frequency in each and every webpage and Keyword Extraction in order to extract only useful keywords from a huge set of words. These algorithms are used to retrieve much optimized and useful results to the user.
