Algebraic Geometry for Coding Theory and Cryptography (original) (raw)
2017, Association for Women in Mathematics Series
Focusing on the groundbreaking work of women in mathematics past, present, and future, Springer's Association for Women in Mathematics Series presents the latest research and proceedings of conferences worldwide organized by the Association for Women in Mathematics (AWM). All works are peer-reviewed to meet the highest standards of scientific literature, while presenting topics at the cutting edge of pure and applied mathematics. Since its inception in 1971, The Association for Women in Mathematics has been a non-profit organization designed to help encourage women and girls to study and pursue active careers in mathematics and the mathematical sciences and to promote equal opportunity and equal treatment of women and girls in the mathematical sciences. Currently, the organization represents more than 3000 members and 200 institutions constituting a broad spectrum of the mathematical community, in the United States and around the world.

Women in Mathematics: Scaling the Heights
Journal of the American Statistical Association, 1998
The goal of this seminar was to reveal the concept of number in modern mathematics. The title was inspired by Kirillov's book (1993). My original idea was to use it as the main source for the seminar, but unfortunately, it is too sophisticated for the students, and I ended up using only his general philosophy of consequent extensions of the notion of number, which appears in the beginning of this article. The material is presented in a series of problems with a skeletal framework that provides a context for them. In the seminar, students solved these problems and worked on projects, individually or in groups. Solutions and hints to some of these problems are included in the Appendix.

In this explanatory work, we make an attempt to briefly discuss the work and technical achievements of twenty female mathematicians. The work may be useful as a historical resource, but there is very little biography or history, and the primary focus is on the mathematics. In fact, the main use will probably be for a student who is coming to a new area of mathematics for the first time and needs an overview of some of the key results and references viewed through the work of one of that area's main contributors.
May 12: Celebrating Women in Mathematics
Notices of the American Mathematical Society, 2019
Notices of the AmericAN mAthemAticAl society 1879 COMMUNICATION (WM) 2 in 2018. After being approved by hundreds of attendees at the meeting, the "May 12 Initiative," often referred to simply as "May 12," rose to a global and inclusive call to action, uniting several national and continental women-in-mathematics organizations worldwide. The fact that the original idea sparked an overwhelming response, resulting in more than one hundred events being organized in its inaugural year, showcases that the initiative fulfills a strong need. For centuries women were disregarded as mathematicians, and the gender gap in mathematics remains very real. Celebratory events such as the ones supported by the May 12 Initiative bring about a crucial sense of belonging amongst women mathematicians and raise awareness throughout the entire mathematics community. The authors of this note belong to the coordinating group of the May 12 Initiative and tell the story of this international cooperation. We hope that next year you will join!
OWR / 2017 / 2 Mini-Workshop : Women in Mathematics : Historical and Modern Perspectives Organised
2017
The aim of the workshop is to build a bridge between research on the situation of women in mathematics at the beginning of coeducative studies and the current circumstances in academia. The issue of women in mathematics has been a recent political and social hot topic in the mathematical community. As thematic foci we place a double comparison: besides shedding light on differences and similarities in several European countries, we complete this investigation by comparing the developments of women studies from the beginnings. This shall lead to new results on tradition and suggest improvements on the present situation. Mathematics Subject Classification (2010): 01A55, 01A60, 01A70, 01A80. Women in mathematics: a selected annotated bibliography
Purpose – Finding reference sources on women in mathematics can be challenging. With the increasing interest in encouraging women to go into science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM)-related careers, there is a need for a list of recommended resources in the literature. Design/methodology/approach – An exhaustive literature review was performed on books addressing women in math that were published in the last 15 years. Findings – An exhaustive literature review was performed on books and online reference material addressing women in math that were published in the last 15 years. Research limitations/implications – These resources are mainly useful as places to begin research on women and mathematics. This list is not designed to be comprehensive. Originality/value – This annotated bibliography will be helpful to librarians interested in helping others understand the challenges women face in STEM careers, specifically mathematics.
