Novi Pazar Sevdalinkaları (original) (raw)
In this study, the musical elements that continue to exist as oral culture in the Novi Pazar (New Pazar) region, which is the center of the Sanjak region and within the borders of Serbia, are discussed. In the Novi Pazar region, where the Bosnian population resides densely, sevdalinkas, one of the elements of folk culture, were examined. Sevdalinkas, in which the effects of Ottoman/Turkish music culture were also felt, were handled in terms of maqam and the lyrics were analyzed. In the study, data were obtained by scanning and oral interview methods. Since the data obtained were mostly of musical type, these data were converted into notation and recorded in writing. The lyrics, which were a part of the musical data obtained, were translated from Bosnian to Turkish and discussed in terms of subject and content. In line with the data obtained from the study, it was observed that the sevdalinka type was widely used in the Novi Pazar region. Sevdalinkas, a product of anonymous folk literature, have been performed not only among Bosnians but also among other ethnic groups living in the Balkans. It has been concluded that in addition to anonymous sevdalinkas, new sevdalinkas based on the understanding of composition have been also produced.
