Communicating CSR in the Practice of Polish Companies

— Communicating the information about CSR activities (and their results) taken by the company should become the standard behaviour – like informing about the release of a new product or service. In the process of communicating the company's CSR initiatives to the environment, the attention should be paid to several issues. Firstly, it is important that the company emphasizes its social commitment by adding it to its mission, vision and values. Secondly, it is also important whether the company has a CSR strategy and clearly communicates its goals. Thirdly, the company should also communicate the principles of cooperation with stakeholders in the process of implementing specific CSR activities. Fourthly, but not less important, is whether the company measures the impact of its CSR initiatives and communicates the results to the environment. This paper presents the issues associated with the CSR communication from the perspective of the practice in Polish companies.
Corporate social responsibility as a part of corporate public relations in Serbia

Besides the media, the web presentations of the companies are one of the possible and widely applied means for communication of corporate social responsibility (CSR). For efficient CSR communication, good planning of the massages that will be presented to the public is of particular importance. It is additionally emphasized in the countries in the transition period where the social environment is burdened with numerous problems that result in preformed public mistrust towards companies. The extent and the results of public cognition of the company and creation of its identity and image are highly dependent from content of the web presentation but also of the manner of presentation and positioning of specific contents. Application of adequate slogans, can also highly contribute to the visibility of specific information. In order to review the way in which companies in Serbia present their CSR motives and activities, the web pages of leading companies in Serbia from the agro-business, public and financial sectors were analyzed and the practice of presentation of CSR to the public was reviewed. The similarities and differences in approach to CSR communication among analyzed sectors are outlined in the research results.
CSR in mission statements of Polish chemical industry companies (content analysis results)

Due to the specific nature of their activities, chemical companies are exposed to significant reputational risk. One way to reduce this risk is by implementing a CSR policy. CSR can be built into the company’s strategy and communicated as a mission statement. The purpose of the article was to determine: 1. the types of values which chemical industry companies in Poland display in their mission statements, 2. if chemical industry companies in Poland display CSR values in their mission statements, 3. if these companies differ from others operating in the chemical sector in Poland in terms of displaying CSR in mission statements. The research was carried out through the Iramuteq program, which enabled content analysis of the collected research material. The research problem posed in this chapter is the question whether there is a difference in the corporate social responsibility level among enterprises created before and after transition in Poland. The aim of this chapter is to present and the pre-transition situation in Poland and discussing the social responsibility level in post-transition reality of enterprises. The author’s CSR continuum model will be the basis for discussing the level of corporate social responsibility. The empirical part, reflecting the present level of social responsibility, will be the basis for the analysis and evaluation of the research findings. CSR – a fashion or real commitment? The case of Polish listed companies

This article, without claiming to be the ultimate reference, aims at assessing the social commitment of the large and solid financially, listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange (WSE), Polish companies, on the eve of the implementation of the EU directive on disclosure of non-financial and diversity information (2014/95/EU). The selected companies seem perfect to form a vanguard of CSR in Poland, but the results of the analysis indicate that despite the existing efforts for CSR standardization and better implementation, the situation in Poland is not so optimistic. The limited attention paid to CSR norms as well as CSR reporting under Polish law means also that foreign companies seeking access to Polish capital market generally will not face serious constraints in terms of regulations regarding sustainable development. The EU directive will certainly change this situation but there is a visible need for continuing education of companies in this field.

Despite the increasing worldwide awareness of the importance of social issues in contemporary business management, Polish small and medium-sized enterprises seem to remain in the group of followers, certainly not leaders, of the corporate social responsibility (CSR) movement, and this despite important dissemination efforts by numerous institutions. The aim of this paper is to present the bumpy road to the (still incomplete) implementation of CSR by Polish SMEs and also to demonstrate a possible shift in the attitude of Polish entrepreneurs. The research is based on available statistical and qualitative data from recent reports and official policies. A presentation of cases of companies emerging from a regional CSR contest completes the picture.

The article provides an analysis of potential available in corporate social responsibility (CSR) in regard to other activities conducted by Polish public relations (PR) experts and professionals. Different outlooks on social responsibility and PR are also presented in this article, including stakeholder engagement, relationships and practical determinants between them, taking into account practical circumstances characteristic for Polish environment. The hypothesis presented in the article indicates that CSR projects are one of the elements of a wide offer of PR activities offered in Poland, but they do not lie in a specialisation of agencies and are underrated by PR advisors when it comes to their usefulness in image creation. This hypothesis is backed by three independent research projects realised in years 2016–2019, conducted on a group of 852 PR specialists in Poland, which represented different types of organisations. This article is based on in-house research on PR sector in Poland. Research data was gathered by interview questionnaires using quantitative methodology.

How CSR Affects Polish Enterprises

Purpose: The article refers to the assessment of the activities of enterprises within CSR, according to the classification adopted in the Carroll's pyramid model. Research on CSR issues in this approach has been conducted since the 1980s and is usually addressed to the top management. Design/Approach/Methodology: This article is based on research on the attitude to CSR activities of managers / employees at the operational level; in this way we endeavour to fill a certain cognitive gap. The research included a representative sample of large and mediumsized enterprises in Poland, including representativeness by economy sectors. Findings: The research results point to a different hierarchy of CSR domains than that suggested by the Carroll's pyramid (and most of the results of previous research addressed to the top management). The highest rated by respondents was legal responsibility, before ethical, and only third place was taken by economic responsibility. Practical Implications: The research results could be useful for managers responsible for CSR impleneting and developing. Originality/Value: The article contributed to filling the cognitive gap regarding priorities declared by CSR managers, i.e. persons implementing CSR activities on behalf of enterprises in practice. The research results indicate that the respondent's job position (the scope of duties related to CSR) and the economic sector they represent have the greatest impact on the valuation of individual areas of CSR, while the size of the enterprise has a weak impact.
