This article describes the planning process, collection, distribution, selection, and compression into bales of household solid waste of the city of Jaraguá do Sul in southern Brazil. Background information was obtained in the company responsible to perform the selective collection, in the Cooperative and Association of Collectors, and the company that sells the separated and compressed / crushed material to the industry. A survey was carried out in the programs created by public agencies to raise awareness among the population about the importance of the selection of household waste. Qualitative data were collected through semi-structured and non-participant observation. From the analysis of results it can be concluded that the lack of training of association members and cooperated personnel, due to their low educational level, may explain the absence of planning. It is also possible to affirm that the municipal government has developed programs to raise the awareness of the population, but there is still a little response by the people living that county.

Revista AIDIS de Ingeniería y Ciencias Ambientales. Investigación, desarrollo y práctica
Selective collection aiming the recycling of municipal solid waste is worldwide an alternative to reduce the final disposal in landfills, besides reducing natural resources consumption. This paper aimed to analyze the system of selective collection of recyclable materials proposed by the municipal government of Palmas through the Program "Coleta Palmas", through data collection in the institutions involved, intending to contribute for the improvement of the system adopted. A survey was carried out with the main stakeholders of the Program, with the purpose of knowing the institutional arrangement, the types of partnerships, the objectives and targets set, the actions and strategies planning, the monitoring and results achieved so far. Results showed difficulties involving the coordination unit, and it was noticed that the general view of the operating units on the Program is positive, although for two of them, to date, the participation has not represented financial gains. It was concluded that changes in the management of the Program are necessary, including improvement of social communication and continuous environmental education. Lastly, recommendations made by the operating units were collected in three perspectives: institutional, operational, and environmental education.
RECIMA21 - Revista Científica Multidisciplinar, 2023
This study described collectors' main difficulties in collecting discarded materials in Manaus (Brazil). The method used involved analyzing the practice of three collectors willing to provide in-depth data and information obtained through semi-structured interviews carried out in the respondents' workplaces, which were then analyzed with the help of the conceptual bibliographic method and interpreted with the help of semantic analysis. The results showed that a) the main difficulties are extreme physical exertion, people's rejection, unhealthy working conditions, lack of personal protective equipment, and lack of participation by people, companies, and governments; b) difficulties occur due to lack of equipment, lack of technical knowledge of the materials handled, people's lack of knowledge about the importance of the collectors' work and lack of participation by society and governments in the selective collection; c) who could help to minimize these difficulties are the residents, companies, and governments and d) what the agents can do is to structure the collection (government), separate the materials (residents), provide more disposal sites (town hall) and donation of equipment and training (companies). The conclusion shows that agents are not prepared to carry out reverse logistics in the city because they are unaware of the importance of waste pickers' work to start the city's circular economy.
Recycling Analysis in Northern city in the State of Rio de Janeiro: A Study of Reverse Logistics
This work analyzes the recycling process of the PET bottle in a company located in Campos dos Goytacazes, - a northern city in the state of Rio de Janeiro, from the concept of reverse logistics. It was sought, through qualitative research with the company to know the process of recycling the PET bottle and its understanding as a contribution to the environmental issue. Visits were made to the company for a period of one month, alternating times during work hours, observing since the arrival of the material collected in the streets until the end of the recycling process, together with the visits carried out was applied a questionnaire with the company's employees in order to measure their understanding of the recycling process. It was developed the process flowchart and the mapping, aiming to allow not only to know the sequence of the process developed, but also to analyze it in terms of strengths and weaknesses. After data collection, it was verified that, with regard to the production process, the employees performed their tasks empirically, knowing only the stage of the process by which they were responsible, and they and the company had no formal procedure to demonstrate the sequential steps involved in the recycling process.
The research aims to describe the profile of recyclable material collectors and the possible impacts generated in the municipal landfill of Guajará-Mirim and the perception of environmental risks. From a methodological point of view, questionnaires were applied to stakeholders (pickers, small traders and the recyclable materials manager), which allowed a broader view of the recycling process and the organizational and technological level employed in this economic segment. For this, the UCINET Software and NetDraw tool was used, where it was possible to analyze the data and social networks around the recyclable materials sector in the "green city" of Guajará-Mirim, Rondônia, Brazil. Thus, allowing to consider that this activity is very fragile from a technical, technological and organizational point of view, which makes it a great threat to the sector. Furthermore, factors such as public policies, environmental awareness and cooperation seem to further undermine this important activity in the municipality, which increases the local paradox in relation to the national solid waste policy. The Management of Solid Waste in the Rodolfo Aurelian forum -Case Study
The relevance of the work of cooperatives and associations of recyclable material collectors was recognized by Law 12,305/10, which also encouraged solid waste collectors to meet in cooperatives and associations. In this scenario, the National Council of Justice (CNJ) determined that it was mandatory for all Brazilian courts to adopt measures of public sustainability policies, as well as the implementation of the Sustainable Logistics Plan of the Judiciary (PLS-PJ). The research carried out a qualitative approach, conducting interviews with the cooperative members of the Work Cooperative of Recyclable Solid Waste Collectors (COOPAGRES) that has a partnership with the Forum Judge Rodolfo Aureliano, located in the city of Recife-PE. The research results identified that it is necessary to remedy the communication deficiency between the Forum and the Cooperative, as well as to include the participation of the association and its associates in the construction of the plan (PGRS) of the Forum and in its execution, so that the practices are adopted in an ecologically correct manner. This is the search for social and economic inclusion and recognition of solid waste collectors.
Urban Solid Waste Management: A Study on Comilla City
2016
Improper management of solid waste is one of the main causes of environmental pollution and degradation in many cities. Low collection coverage, unavailable transport services, and lack of suitable treatment, recycling and disposal facilities are responsible for unsatisfactory waste management, leading to water, land and air pollution, and for putting people and the environment at risk. The process of establishing door-to-door waste collection system is not always transparent to the public. People usually receive services of primary collection service providers (Community Based Organization) and Comilla City Corporation (CCC) are not fully involved in the activities/decision making process. Comilla City Corporation does not have adequate capacity to handle the increasing solid waste mainly due to limited budgets. This paper aims to identify the status of waste management process, explore the problems of service delivery, and to justify the public satisfaction. It also provides some ...

Analysis of sustainability in solid waste management in the city: the case of Paripiranga, Brazil
Before the Industrial Revolution production systems comprised a cycle in which the waste was produced and absorbed by the environment. With the uncontrolled growth of cities and the increase of the population was a major consequence of the increased production of waste. There was, thus, waste management that aims to manage, in an organized and consistent, both the handling and disposal of such wastes in the environment. This study aimed to develop a method of analysis of urban solid waste management in cities, and the consolidation of the method was taken as case study the issue in the municipality of Paripiranga, State of Bahia. The proposed analysis refers to the dimensions of sustainability, but also from a model SWOT analysis showing strengths, weaknesses, threats and opportunities in waste management in the municipality of Paripiranga. The methodology used was based on research relevant literature, and through field interviews with municipal and popular. The main results show that the waste management Paripiranga is far from being considered an ideal model to the point that people are uninformed and uninterested in the subject. The government only uses the landfill as a model of waste management. Public policies under Participative Master Plan should be put into practice, and several gaps related to popular participation must be completed.

The study aims to propose the implementation of postconsumer reverse logistics practices in the treatment of solid waste from microenterprises in the textile and clothing sector in Santa Cruz do Capibaribe. For that, it was necessary to know the productive process of the companies; identify the solid residues that are generated in the production process; raise the actions that are currently adopted by companies regarding the treatment of their solid waste; and, finally, propose new actions for the treatment of solid waste generated in the production process. This is an applied, qualitative, exploratory and descriptive research, in the format of a multicase study, which used a semi-structured interview script and non-participant observation as a data collection instrument. After knowing the reality of the two companies, it was concluded that there is a long way to go in the search for the implementation of Post-Consumer Reverse Logistics practices. It was noticed that their efforts, aiming at the correct disposal of solid waste generated in the production process, are insufficient, since they adopt few treatment actions, giving rise to the incorrect disposal of a high volume of materials. Thus, actions were proposed for the treatment of this solid waste, involving resale, recycling, reuse and a more appropriate final destination.
