A measurement is presented of the cross section for the production of a W boson with one or two jets, of which at least one must be a b-jet, in pp collisions at √ s = 7 TeV. Production via top decay is not included in the signal definition. The measurement is based on 35 pb −1 of data collected with the ATLAS detector at the LHC. The W+b-jet cross section is defined for jets reconstructed with the anti-k t clustering algorithm with transverse momentum above 25 GeV and rapidity within ±2.1. The b-jets are identified by reconstructing secondary vertices. The fiducial cross section is measured both for the electron and muon decay channel of the W boson and is found to be 10.2 ± 1.9 (stat) ± 2.6 (syst) pb for one lepton flavour. The results are compared with next-to-leading order QCD calculations, which predict a cross section smaller than, though consistent with, the measured value.

This paper reports a measurement of the W +b-jets (W +b+ X and W + $ b\overline{b} $ +X) production cross-section in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 7 TeV at the LHC. These results are based on data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 4.6 fb−1, collected with the ATLAS detector. Cross-sections are presented as a function of jet multiplicity and of the transverse momentum of the leading b-jet for both the muon and electron decay modes of the W boson. The W +b-jets cross-section, corrected for all known detector effects, is quoted in a limited kinematic range. Combining the muon and electron channels, the fiducial cross-section for W +b-jets is measured to be 7.1 ± 0.5 (stat) ± 1.4 (syst) pb, consistent with the next-to-leading order QCD prediction, corrected for non-perturbative and double-parton interactions (DPI) contributions, of 4.70 ± 0.09 (stat) $ _{-0.49}^{+0.60 } $ (scale) ±0.06 (PDF) ±0.16 (non-pert) $ _{-0.38}^{+0.52 } $ (DPI) pb.

This Letter reports on a first measurement of the inclusive W+jetsW+jets cross section in proton–proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 7 TeV at the LHC, with the ATLAS detector. Cross sections, in both the electron and muon decay modes of the W -boson, are presented as a function of jet multiplicity and of the transverse momentum of the leading and next-to-leading jets in the event. Measurements are also presented of the ratio of cross sections σ(W+⩾n)/σ(W+⩾n−1)σ(W+⩾n)/σ(W+⩾n−1) for inclusive jet multiplicities n=1–4n=1–4. The results, based on an integrated luminosity of 1.3 pb−11.3 pb−1, have been corrected for all known detector effects and are quoted in a limited and well-defined range of jet and lepton kinematics. The measured cross sections are compared to particle-level predictions based on perturbative QCD. Next-to-leading order calculations, studied here for n⩽2n⩽2, are found in good agreement with the data. Leading-order multiparton event generators, normalized to the NNLO total cross section, describe the data well for all measured jet multiplicities.

ABSTRACT We present a measurement of the cross section for W-boson production in association with jets in pbarp collisions at sqrt(s)=1.96$ TeV. The analysis uses a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 320 pb^-1 collected with the CDF II detector. W bosons are identified in their electron decay channel and jets are reconstructed using a cone algorithm. For each W+>= n-jet sample ($n= 1 - 4$) we measure sigma(ppbar =>W+>=n$-jet)x BR(W => e nu) with respect to the transverse energy E_T of the n^th-highest E_T jet above 20 GeV, for a restricted W => e nu decay phase space. The cross sections, corrected for all detector effects, can be directly compared to particle level W+ jet(s) predictions. We present here comparisons to leading order and next-to-leading order predictions.
