Growth and Yield Potential of Broccoli Influenced by Organic Manures
The ex periment w as conduct ed at t he Hort icult ure Farm, Sher-e-Bangla Agricult ural U niv ersity, Dhaka, during Oct ober 2011 t o March 2012 t o st udy t he influence of different organic manures on grow t h and y ield of broccoli. Experiment consist ed of t hree levels of organic manures, v iz. O0 = Cont rol; O1 = Cow dung (25 t ha-1) and O2 = Spent Mushroom compost (17 t ha-1) and w as laid out in randomized complet e block design w it h four replicat ions. The highest plant height, number of leaves, leaf lengt h, leaf breadt h, day s required for curd init iat ion, crow n lengt h, diamet er and w eight of primary curd plant-1 , number and w eight of secondary curds plant-1 and y ield (16.99 t /ha) w ere obt ained from spent Mushroom compost (O2) w hile t he low est (9.14 t ha-1) from co nt rol (O0).

This study was conducted to determine the animal manures on yield, quality, and nutrient content of broccoli heads. Treatments consisted of 0, 30 and 60 t ha-1 of sheep and cattle manure and organic commercial fertilizer (B5A). Manure rates significantly increased yield, average weight of main and secondary heads, and the diameter in broccoli compared to control. The highest total yield (27.74 t ha-1) was obtained using sheep manure (30 t ha-1). At harvest, the highest amount of the total N in broccoli heads was measured at organic commercial fertilizer application. Potassium (K), sodium (Na), iron (Fe) and manganese (Mn) content increased with higher doses but, phosphorus (P), calcium (Ca), copper (Cu) and zinc (Zn) contents were not influenced. Additionally, the highest nutrient removal for broccoli heads was obtained at 30 t ha-1 sheep manure application rate.
The present research work on evaluation Effect of organic manures and biofertilizers on growth, yield and quality of broccoli (Brassica oleracea var. italica Plenck.) cv. KTS-1 was carried out at the Horticulture Research Farm of Department of Applied Plant Science, Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University, Vidya Vihar, Rae Bareli Road, Lucknow (U.P.), India, during Rabi season of 2015-16. The research material comprised of eleven treatments along with three replications in Randomized Block Design. The highest plant height (52.67cm), number of leaves per plant (22.13), leaf length (43.07cm), leaf width (35.20cm), stem diameter (5.00), days to curd (65.13), Days to 50% curd initiation (75.23), days taken to 50% curd maturity (96.13), curd diameter (10.52), curd weight (305.33), yield (125.20 q/ha) and as well as quality parameters Maximum vitamin C contain (90.50mg/100), T.S.S contain (8.80 0Brix) and reducing sugar (3.25%), non reducing sugar (0.79%), Total sugars (3.97%) was recorded in T8 (RDF 25% + Vermicompost 50% + Azotobacter 50% + Azotobacter 25% except acidity.

Studies on the effect of different organic sources (soil, FYM, cocopeat, vermicompost, neem cake, and poultry manure) and varieties (V2 Pusa KTS-1 and V1 Green Head) on different growth attributes in sprouting broccoli (Brassica oleracea var. italica Plenck). Experiment was carried out in a randomized block design with three replications at the Department of Horticulture, Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University Lucknow, 226025 (U P), India, during the Rabi season of 2019-2020. We examined different growth parameters such as Plant height, Number of leaves per plant, Stem diameter (mm), Plant spread east-west (cm), Plant spread north-south (cm), Length of leaves, and Width of leaves. We found that growth parameter are highly effected by vermicompost over the poultry manure, while minimums were reported for S (soil) or control, as well as Neemcake, FYM, and cocopeat at all stages. An experiment was conducted at Horticultural Farm of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka, Bangladesh during October-December, 2007 to study the effect of different organic manures on growth and yield of kohlrabi plant. Three types of organic manures viz., were compared with control (no manure) in the experiment. The maximum plant height (36.50 cm), plant canopy (63.50 cm), leaf length (30.42 cm), leaf breadth (14.25 cm), fresh leaves weight per plant (131.10g), diameter of knob (8.23cm), Knob weight (366.60 g), yield per hectare (22.90 t ha) were found in poultry manure application. Only the maximum number of leaves (20.00) was 1 found in control treatment. On the other hand the minimum plant height (32.25 cm), plant canopy (55.75 cm), leaf length (24.92 cm), leaf breadth (10.75 cm), fresh leaves weight per plant (86.97g), diameter of knob (7.95 cm), Knob weight (177.50 g), yield per hectare (15.40 t ha) were found in control treatment. Minimum number of 1 leaves (14.33) was found with cowdung application.
Calabrese is a popular variety of Broccoli grown in Nepal. In this study, broccoli quality is expressed in terms of vitamin C content and shelf life. High quality broccoli is either a dark or bright green with closed flower buds. Vegetable crops grown with chemical fertilizer increases the yield while organic manure enhances the quality. The combination of optimum level of organic manure and chemical fertilizer needs to be explored and standardized. The present study was conducted at the Institute of Agriculture and Animal Science, Rampur, Chitwan district in the central developmental region of Nepal to observe the use of appropriate level of farm yard manure and inorganic nitrogen in combination to increase the yield and quality of broccoli during October 2007 to February 2008. The experiment was laid out in randomized complete block in factorial design with three replications. Treatments consisted of four levels of nitrogen viz; 0, 80, 160 and 240 kg ha-1 and three levels of farm yard manure viz; 0, 20 and 40 t ha-1. The combination of 160 kg N ha-1 along with 40 t ha-1 farm yard manure with recommended dose of phosphorus and potash offered greatest total curd yield 15.57 t ha-1. Increasing the level of nitrogen beyond 160 kg ha-1 with adequate farm yard manure could be the wastage of effort. Organic manure alone or in combination with inorganic nitrogen enhanced vitamin C and shelf life and decreases with increase in nitrogen level beyond a critical level of nitrogen (160 kg ha-1). Suitable combination of organic manure and chemical fertilizers for better yield and quality of broccoli is recommended.

An investigation was conducted at organic research farm, Department of Vegetable Science, CCS Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar to study the effect of intercropping and crop geometry in organic production of broccoli (Brassica oleracea var. italica) during winters of 2012-14. Three organic manures (FYM, vermicompost and poultry manure) and two spacings, viz. single row (45×45cm) and paired row (30/60×45cm) were taken in main plot and five intercrops, viz. broccoli (CBH-1), beet leaf (HS-23), coriander (Hisar Bhumit), fenugreek (Hisar Suwarna) and radish (HS-1) including sole crop of broccoli as sub-plot. An experiment was conducted at the Horticulture Farm, Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka, from October 2017 to February 2018. The experiment consisted of two factors, Factor A: Four levels of organic manures, viz. M0 = Control; M1 = Cowdung (35 t ha-1), M2 = Mustard oil cake (3.5 t ha-1) and M3 = Vermicompost. Factor B: Three application times, viz. T1 = 15 days before transplanting, T2 = Application at the time of transplanting and T3 = 15 days after transplanting. The experiment was laid out in a randomized complete block design (RCBD) with three replications. In the case of organic manure, the highest yield (38.70 t/ha) was found from M2 treatment, whereas the lowest yield (19.71t/ha) was recorded from M0 treatment. The field experiment was conducted at Horticultural Research Farm of the Department of Applied Plant Science (Horticulture), Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University (A Central University), Vidya-Vihar, Rai-Bareli Road, Lucknow (U.P.) – 226025, India during Rabi season of 2016-17.
