Football and Discrimination, 2021

Abstract

This chapter describes beginning of the antisemitism in Poland and the genesis of its usage as a political tool. The presence of the antisemitism in the world of sport during the multicultural Poland from pre-Second World War period is also approached. Finally, we discuss hot it is possible that in one of the most homogenous ethnically countries (since 1945) with very small share of Jewish population, antisemitism still persists in the discourse and social practices within the football fandom in Poland. We are analyzing the aforementioned phenomenon using the longue durée perspective and the empirical part on the chapter concerns the analysis of the contemporary football-related antisemitism in two Polish cities: Cracow and Lodz.
