E-USAGE & AUTOMATION OF LIBRARIES -A MOVE TOWARDS BETTER MANAGEMENT

Library is a vital learning resource in an institution of higher education for teachers and students. It offers continuously updated information on a variety of subjects. When digitized, it is called digital library. There is a big difference in digital libraries and traditional library (conventional library) as they allow users to access on-line, electronic versions of documents and images. Digital library does not limit the space as was the case with traditional libraries. For the purpose of study various variables were identified like usage of E library, usage of library website, automation of E library and a well-structured questionnaire was prepared. 129 responses were received and chi square test and one way ANNOVA was used to test the differences and association between the variables. It was found that E library was more accessible and useful than other traditional libraries.

Development of a Web-Based Digital Library

Development of a Web-Based Digital Library, 2023

The advent of the Internet and its accompanying telecommunications infrastructure has revolutionized information and communication technology (ICT), leaving an indelible impact on almost every aspect of human endeavour. This unprecedented progress has led to an increase in developments, research and discoveries in various fields, resulting in an incredible volume of library publications and materials. As a result, the complexity of library systems and their operations has increased, prompting the need to develop sophisticated web-based digital library systems. A web-based digital library system is a large multimedia content information management system supported by a standardized relational database structure. The main objective of this study is to highlight the importance and usefulness of digital libraries to aid in the improvement of knowledge acquisition, especially in the context of university or higher education. To achieve this, the study uses object-oriented analysis and design methodology, which ensures the creation of stable and user-friendly software for both staff and university students. Digital resources which includes books and other educational materials were obtained from an online repository (pdfdrive.com) while the multiple choice questions used in the library were procured from the Safoundry website (safoundry.com). These resources were implemented according to design, using vue.js as the framework and programming language of choice. The finished work was hosted on Firebase which also serves as the back-end of the implementation . Research results clearly demonstrate that web-based digital library implementation has many positive effects on the usability of university libraries, mainly through providing convenient web access. By leveraging the power of technology, an electronic library system improves the accessibility and convenience of library resources, which in turn affects the use and participation of library services. institute of the university community. In summary, the development of a web-based electronic library system represents an important step in harnessing technology to enhance knowledge acquisition and optimize the functionality of academic libraries. With its user-friendly interface and seamless web access, the Web-Based Digital Library system enriches the overall experience of staff and students, promoting increased use and efficient exploitation of resources. library resources. It demonstrates the transformative potential of ICTs in redefining the educational landscape and disseminating information, paving the way for a more dynamic and inclusive learning environment.

Some Features of Developing Electronic Libraries

Problems of Information Society

The creation of e-library reflects a new quality level in various data storage, systemization and distribution. The article describes the creation and accessibility issues of e-library. It also studies the transition from traditional libraries to e-libraries, and analyses the main objectives and characteristics of national e-libraries and presents some recommendations.

ANALYSIS OF ACADEMIC LIBRARY WEB SITES FOR SERVICES

Services are the most growing and the fast changing segment of academic libraries nowadays. This paper aims to discuss the present status of academic libraries' services according to their appearance on the library Web pages. The author investigated 366 library Web sites using content analysis and has summarized the presence of main library services: information services, education services, services for providing an access to the information, circulation services, and services providing facilities and equipment. A detailed insight into a specific service has been given. Less represented services like special user groups services and technical services were presented too. A small presence of the new library services like research services, administrative services, conference&events services, data services, counselling services, career and publishing services was discussed. It was concluded that content analysis of library Web sites can give a good overview of different kind of l...

Role of Digital Libraries Resources

E-books will take over soon so Days of hardbound and paperback will be no more. With growing acceptance of virtual books which can be downloaded on the book reading device. The real paper books are decreasing day by day for sure. I after the development of a concept “Service at your door step” an enormous question constantly arises before a librarian that how rapidly and precisely he is providing the eminence data to their user. Digital Library really shows an advantage in the regard by using recent technological expansions and revolutions. In this research paper, apart from position of the Digital Libraries Concept, an effort has been also mode some of the difficulties and problems difficult in producing and preserving a digital library. The library has, since long, been well-thought-out to be the so urge and power of knowledge and also the knowledge base. In higher education and research, the library has precise purposes to enable the wide-ranging use of learning resources by stud...

Development of Digital Libraries: Old Wine in New Bottles

Rapid development of information communication technologies (ICTs) has made an environment globally to the growth of digital libraries. Digital libraries (DL) are facilitating researchers, scholars, learners, information professionals to access their information in variety of formats and learning support at their desktops without any geographical barrier. They are providing electronic based (e-based) information delivery to its users crossing the boundaries of time, space and location. DL users can be reached remotest corners of the world to fill their thrust of information. It makes a gateway to the users for retrieving and browsing of desired information from its huge resources like one stop shopping of big shopping mall. It provides extra services of 24X7 hour uninterrupted access through Internet to the users at their desktop. . It supports teaching, learning and research while reaching unreachable without walls. Greater revolution has occurred in the libraries recent past converting paper-based libraries to electronic based ones. With the emergence of WWW and availability of national and global networks, libraries have turned their attention to digital collections rather than building printed-based collection. In this way, librarian's role dramatically changed and is responsible for what digital repositories available for their users and how users can access to the available information within the physical walls of the library or elsewhere.

An Overview Of Electronic Services In Academic Library

CERN European Organization for Nuclear Research - Zenodo, 2022

An academic library is a place where educational reading materials are available. Academic libraries are located in educational institutions such as schools, colleges, and universities. Library services are recognized as the primary responsibility of libraries. The aim of an academic library is to act as a support system and assist stakeholders such as teachers and students in the teaching, learning, and research activities conducted in their parent institution by providing various library services. Libraries have been providing their services for a long time but gradually these services have become available in electronic form now the services are being created so that the users can enjoy these services in their daily life. The present study attempts to provide an overview of various electronic services in academic libraries.
