Multicasting is an efficient communication service for supporting multipoint applications. The main goal of most ad hoc multicast protocols is to build and maintain a multicast tree or mesh in the face of a mobile environment, with fast reactions to network changes so that the packet loss is minimized. The topology of a wireless mobile network can be very dynamic, and hence the maintenance of a connected multicast routing tree may cause large overhead. To avoid this, a different approach based on meshes has been proposed. Meshes are more suitable for dynamic environments because they support more connectivity than trees; thus they support multicast trees. In multicast routing protocols many type of risk are involve like rushing, black hole, jellyfish attacks. Many features improve the performance of multicast routing protocol robustness, efficiency, control overhead .in this article mainly focus on application independent based multicast routing protocols, features, and comparison of multicast routing protocols.

In late years, Multicast routing plays a substantial role in MANETs and the main target is to send data from multiple sources to multiple destinations and at the same time minimize the employment of resources like bandwidth, time and link costs. To provide reliable multicasting suitable for mobile ad hoc networks, many researchers have continued trying to optimize existing multicast routing protocols. In this paper some of the most important problems considered in this area are analyzed and also a survey on multicast routing protocols is discussed in detail.
MULTICAST ROUTING PROTOCOLS IN MANETS
Sending multiple copies of packet to different nodes is called Multicasting. Wired and infrastructure-based wireless networks are supported by many multicast routing protocols. But, applying this concept in Mobile Ad hoc wireless networks (MANETs) is a big challenge. Problems in ad hoc networks are the scarcity of bandwidth, short lifetime of the nodes due to power constraints and dynamic topology due to the mobility of nodes. These problems put in force to design a simple, scalable, robust and energy efficient routing protocol for multicast environment. In this paper we will discuss different multicasting routing protocols for mobile ad hoc networks and their deployment issues.
Review of multicast routing mechanisms in mobile ad hoc networks

Frequent interactions among the group members of distributed wireless network environment may be facilitated with the help of Mobile Ad Hoc NETworks (MANETs). Some of the group-oriented applications include disaster management, battlefields, audio/video conferencing, e-commerce, e-education, etc. Group communication demands dynamic construction of efficient and reliable multicast routes under user mobility and varying channel conditions. Multicast routing mechanisms in MANETs have been consistently improved by researchers considering various performance measures such as energy efficient route establishment, packet delivery ratio, quicker and faster proactive route recovery, network life time, reliability, Quality of Service (QoS) based on bandwidth, delays, jitters, and security. The paper focuses on most recent reliable and QoS based multicast routing mechanisms that helps in multimedia communication over MANETs. The mechanisms are considered under different topological routing categories such as mesh, tree, zone and hybrid. We provide an overview of existing multicast routing mechanisms based on routing categories and point to directions for future research and development.
Multicast routing protocols in mobile ad hoc networks: A comparative survey and taxonomy

Multicasting plays a crucial role in many applications of mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs). It can significantly improve the performance of these networks, the channel capacity (in mobile ad hoc networks, especially single-channel ones, capacity is a more appropriate term than bandwidth, capacity is measured in bits/s and bandwidth in Hz) and battery power of which are limited. In the past couple of years, a number of multicast routing protocols have been proposed. In spite of being designed for the same networks, these protocols are based on different design principles and have different functional features when they are applied to the multicast problem. This paper presents a coherent survey of existing multicasting solutions for MANETs. It presents various classifications of the current multicast routing protocols, discusses their operational features, along with their advantages and limitations, and provides a comparison of their characteristics according to several distinct features and performance parameters. Moreover, this paper proposes classifying the existing multicast protocols into three categories according to their layer of operation, namely, the network layer, the application layer, and the MAC layer. It also extends the existing classification system and presents a comparison between them.
Multicast Routing Protocol For Mobile Adhoc Networks: A Review
Mobile ad-hoc network (MANET) has got tremendous success in the last decade due to its properties of self-maintenance and self-organization. It consists of a group of mobile nodes having the ability to communicate with each other without any fixed central base station. In MANET, mobile nodes communicate with each other using routing protocols. Wireless networks are supported by many multicast routing protocols. In recent years, significant research has been done in designing a multicast protocol for MANETs. It is still a difficult issue to design an efficient multicast routing protocol in Mobile Ad Hoc Networks (MANETs). Multicasting is a challenging task due to the management of group membership, data packets forwarding, and controlling the large network size.
A Comparative and Performance Study of On Demand Multicast Routing Protocols for Ad Hoc Networks
The advent of universal computing and proliferation of portable computing devices have raised the importance of mobile and wireless networking. In wireless and mobile networking Multicast has great impact since it has overcomes the overheads of the unicast routing. Multicast can efficiently supports applications of different varieties that are characterized by a close degree of collaboration typical for many ad hoc applications. This article investigates the two prominent MANET multicasts routing for ad hoc network protocols On Demand Multicast Routing Protocol (ODMRP) and Multicast Operation Of Ad Hoc on Demand Distance Vector (MAODV) Protocol. MAODV fabricate and maintains a multicast tree based on the hard state, whereas ODMRP does the multicast operation based on the soft state by constructing the forwarding group. Our analysis shows that ODMRP is better than MAODV in packet delivery ratio but it has higher overheads.

Multicast routing in wireless networking is the newest technology that works with network groups. Multicast routing plays an important role in point-to-point or multipoint-to-multipoint communications. Multicast routing gives wireless networks more efficient, reliable and secure than unicast routing, because the speed of the protocols and techniques that are developed or combined on multicast routing to work with wireless technology. There are a lot of multicast routing protocols, some of them works with wired networks while the others work with wireless; some protocols deal with both wired and wireless networks. Comparison of Various Unicast-Multicast Routing Protocols for Mobile Ad-Hoc Networks

A Mobile Ad-hoc Network (MANET) is a self configuring network which consists of mobile nodes with no permanent infrastructure. In a MANETs, there is no difference between a host node and a router so that all nodes can be source plus forwarders of traffic. The task of finding routes in Mobile Ad-hoc Network (MANET) is an important factor in determining the efficiency of any MANET routing protocols. This paper describes about the basic idea of different routing protocols and its efficient use in MANET. There are several routing protocols based on UNICAST and MULTICAST. This paper will conclude the main characteristics of these protocols with comparison and suggest the best suited protocol for particular topology or network.
