The Relationship between CrossFit® Performance and Laboratory-Based Measurements of Fitness

To date, research has examined the physiological determinants of performance in standardized CrossFit® (CF) workouts but not without the influence of CF familiarity. Therefore, the purpose of this present study was to examine the predictive value of aerobic fitness, body composition, and total body strength on performance of two standardized CF workouts in CF-naïve participants. Twenty-two recreationally trained individuals (males = 13, females = 9) underwent assessments of peak oxygen consumption (VO2 peak), ventilatory thresholds, body composition, and one repetition maximum tests for the back squat, deadlift, and overhead press in which the sum equaled the CF Total. Determination of a CrossFit® Benchmark Performance Profile

In the trend sport CrossFit®, international competition is held at the CrossFit® Games, known worldwide as the definitive fitness test. Since American athletes are the best in the world regarding CrossFit®, there might be influencing factors on international competition performance. Here, we characterize the benchmark performance profile of American and German CrossFit® athletes (n = 162). To collect the common benchmark performance by questionnaire, 66 male and 96 female CrossFit® athletes (32.6 ± 8.2 years) participated in our survey in both nations. By comparing the individual performance variables, only a significant difference in total power lift performance by males was identified between the nations (p = 0.034). No other significant differences were found in the Olympic lift, running, or the “Girl” Workout of the Day (Fran, Grace, Helen) performance. Analysis of Morphofunctional Variables Associated with Performance in Crossfit® Competitors

CrossFit® is a competitive sport and fitness modality characterized by multiple physical capabilities and multi-joint movements. This study aimed to analyse and classify variables related to CrossFit® competitors’ specific performance. Fifteen male CrossFit® competitors were selected (n = 15; 30.57 ± 5.5 years; 1.76 ± 0.06 m; 78.55 ± 9.12 kg). Comparative and correlational analysis of the performance from 2016 crossfit games high-level athletes

Background: CrossFit is a functional training modality created by Greg Glassman in 1995 in the United States. Such modality is characterized by the execution of complex and high intensity movements with the purpose of preparing the participant for the unpredictable. It is observed the exponential increase in CrossFit practice across the world, with this increase there are a consolidation of this modality with as a very peculiar sport modality, since as tasks to be performed in the competitions are made public just before the events happen. Few studies have focused on the determinants of competitive success in CrossFit, both morphologically and performance. Objective: This present study dedicated to investigate, in the existing literature and in the results of the 2016 championship, variables that can be predicted the performance of these athletes. Methods: The performance of 40 2016-CrossFit Games finalists of both genders were analyzed in the morphological variables (weight, height, body mass index), performance and specific tests (Benchmarks and 1 MR tests). Results: We found that among male athletes, it was not possible to identify variables that could predict a classification. However, among the women, we identified some variables that correlated with classification, such as the Benchmark Filth 50, Sprint performance of 400m and maximal loads in the Clean and Jerk and Snatch exercises. Conclusion: It was attributed to the correlations found among women the smaller participation in the Games, this allowed physical characteristics as force to influence in the final position.

Physical and Physiological Predictors of FRAN CrossFit® WOD Athlete’s Performance

CrossFit® training is one of the fastest-growing fitness activities in the world due to its varied functional movement and competition experience. The performance is present in almost every workout of the day (WOD); however, there is a lack of knowledge in the science that did not allow us to fully understand the performance determinants of CrossFit WOD’s like we do for other individual or team sports. In briet Because of its noninvasive approach, anthropometry is one of the oldest and most popular methods of estimating body composition. However, this practical approach is often misused and misinterpreted by both clinicians and researchers. This article reviews the major methods for estimating body composition in various populations, with emphasis on anthropometry. Steps that will help clinicians select an appropriate anthropometric equation and reduce errors include using the same measurement procedures described in the original study and making sure the equation is based on a similar sample of 50 to 150 subjects in terms of age, sex, and activity levels.

Nutrient Intake and Body Composition in CrossFit Athletes: a Cross-sectional Study

Background: Nutritional composition of the athletes’ diet in relation to their training routine and body composition is critical in maintaining high performance levels during competitions. Objective: This study aimed to investigate the body composition and nutrient intake of CrossFit® athletes. Methods: Twenty-five Brazilian CrossFit® athletes (18–50 years old) were evaluated in this study. Height, weight, and body mass index (BMI) were measured. A portable ultrasound was used to assess body composition. Resting energy expenditure was evaluated by indirect calorimetry. To describe the nutrient intake, 175 diets prepared by nutritionists were analyzed (mean diets per athlete = 7). To verify adherence, three non-consecutive self-reported 24-hour dietary recall surveys per diet were analyzed, totaling 525 days of food consumption record, and the mean of these 24-hour dietary recalls was used in this study.
