Study of a printed circular disc monopole antenna for UWB systems

IEEE Transactions on Antennas and Propagation, 2005

This paper presents a study of a novel monopole antenna for ultrawide-band (UWB) applications. Printed on a dielectric substrate and fed by a 50 microstrip line, a planar circular disc monopole has been demonstrated to provide an ultra wide 10 dB return loss bandwidth with satisfactory radiation properties. The parameters which affect the performance of the antenna in terms of its frequency domain characteristics are investigated. A good agreement is achieved between the simulation and the experiment. In addition, the time domain performance of the proposed antenna is also evaluated in simulations.

Printed Modified Circular Disc UWB Monopole Antenna

2018

This paper presents a modified circular disk monopole antenna which work for the entire UWB bandwidth from 3.34 GHz to 14.11 GHz. Here circular disk monopole antenna performance is improved by cutting a rectangular and cylindrical slot from the circular disk patch. This proposed antenna is fed by 50 ohm rectangular microstrip line. The proposed antenna is resonating at 5.59 GHz in the WiMax band. Further this antenna has compact size of 40mmx30mm. The value of VSWR is less than 2 for the entire UWB range. The proposed antenna is simulated on HFSS V11.1 software.

Printed circular disc compact planar antenna for UWB applications

Telecommunication Systems, 2011

A printed planar antenna having a compact dimension of 27 × 23.5 mm 2 , fed by a microstrip line is proposed in this article. The proposed compact antenna consists of a circular disc radiator and partial ground plane with a rectangular slot on its' top edge. Experimental results show that the antenna has an −10 dB impedance bandwidth ranges from 3.3 GHz to 20 GHz (193%) which almost covers the entire UWB band. A symmetric and stable radiation pattern with an average realized gain of 5.11 dBi makes the proposed antenna suitable for using in different UWB applications. Details of the proposed antenna design are presented and discussed.

systems. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has designated the 3.1-10.6 GHz band with Effective Isotropic Radiated Power (EIRP) below −40 dbm/kHz for UWB Communications. Some UWB antennas are much more complex than other existing single band, dual band and multi-band antennas (Allen et al. 2007; Pozar 2005). Most of the UWB monopole antennas are investigated till today is non-planar as in Pillalamarri and Kshetrimayum (2007a) and Kshetrimayum and Pillalamarri (2009) and due to its protruded structure they cannot be integrated with integrated circuits and they are fragile. Few researchers have also studied printed monopole antennas. In this paper, we will investigate circular disc UWB antenna, which is basically a printed microstrip antenna with etched ground plane (Kshetrimayum and Pillalamarri 2009; Pillalamarri and Kshetrimayum 2007b, c). First we will investigate in depth the circular disk printed monopole antenna with etched ground plane as shown Fig. 1a for UWB applications. We have used conventional rectangular microstrip lines as feed lines for printed UWB antennas which are properly matched to the antenna impedance (Liang et al. 2004; Agrawall et al. 1998; Hammoud et al. 1993). In future we will also investigate other broadband matching techniques to further improve the UWB performance of the printed monopole antenna. 2 Geometry of the printed planar circular radiating patch UWB antenna The UWB antenna is designed on a substrate with 4.4 relative permittivity and 1.6 mm thickness and simple microstrip line is used for feeding.
