Employment the State Space and Kalman Filter Using ARMA models
2021
The research is interested in studying a modern mathematical topic of great importance in contemporary applications known as the representation of the state space for mathematical models of time series represented by ARMA models and the discussion of a Kalman filter such as the one who has very general characteristics and of the utmost importance and depends on the representation of the state space. Raw data on electrical energy consumption in Mosul city have been used for the period from (15/6/2003 to 25/9/2003), and after examining these data as to whether they are stationary or not, it was found that there is no stationary for the series behavior in the arithmetic mean, variance and after conversion. The state-space model is characterized by being an efficient scale in all states that are not observed or controlled, and for this, the state-space model can be used to estimate states that cannot be observed. It can also express the state-space model simply for complex operations an...
A Note on Arma Model Parameter Redundancy
Journal of Time Series Analysis, 1993
A simple condition, which is expressed directly in terms of the ARMA model parameters, is given for determining ARMA model redundancy.
2020
For the large family of ARMA models with variable coefficients we obtain an explicit and computationally tractable solution that generates all their fundamental properties, including the Wold-Crámer decomposition and their covariance structure, thus unifying the invertibility conditions which guarantee both their asymptotic stability and main properties. The one sided Green's function, associated with the homogeneous solution, is expressed as a banded Hessenbergian formulated exclusively in terms of the autoregressive parameters of the model. The proposed methodology allows for a unified treatment of these 'time varying' systems. We also illustrate mathematically one of the focal points in Hallin's (1986) analysis. Namely, that in a time varying setting the backward asymptotic efficiency is different from the forward one. Equally important it is shown how the linear algebra techniques, used to obtain the general solution, are equivalent to a simple procedure for manipulating polynomials with variable coefficients. The practical significance of the suggested approach is illustrated with an application to U.S. inflation data. The main finding is that inflation persistence increased after 1976, whereas from 1986 onwards the persistence reduces and stabilizes to even lower levels than the pre-1976 period.
Minimal State Space realization of continuous-time linear time-variant Input-Output models
In the linear time-invariant framework, the transformation from an input-output equation into state space representation is well understood. Several canonical forms exist that realize the same dynamic behavior. If the coefficients become time-varying however, the LTI transformation no longer holds. We prove by induction that there exists a closed-form expression for the observability canonical state space model, using binomial coefficients.

An on-line and robust identification scheme for time-varying ARMA processes
IEEE 2002 28th Annual Conference of the Industrial Electronics Society. IECON 02
In this paper, a novel method for extracting the values of the coefficients of time-varying ARMA processes is proposed. The approach discussed assumes solely that the orders of the numerator and the denominator polynomials are known. The algorithm is demonstrated to be stable in the sense of Lyapunov, furthermore, it is shown in the paper that the evolution in the parameter space takes place in a finite volume. The proposed method is cost effective and is based on the variable structure systems theory, which is well known with its robustness to uncertainties. In the simulation example, the coefficients of a second order ARMA process is extracted by the use of the algorithm presented.
A class of qD continuous-time time-varying acausal systems
Proceedings of the 7th Int. Conf. on Instrumentation, Measurement, Circuits and Systems (IMCAS'08), 2008
Multidimensional (qD, q ≤ 2) time-varying acausal systems are presented. These systems represent the continuous-time counterparts of the Attasi's 2D discrete-time time-invariant models. The state space representation is given and the formula of the input-output map is obtained. An adjoint system is introduced and the relationship between the input-output maps of the acausal systems and of their adjoints is emphasized by means of two suitable inner products.
