'The purpose of this dissertation is to systematically review current research which focuses on adapted counselling theories and specialised Islamic based counselling to suit the needs of the Muslim client. A systematic review was conducted by searching electronic databases and relevant published journals, periodicals and text books which offer, discuss and explore alternative approaches to counselling for Muslim clients. The studies were then assessed for their suitability to the search criteria and relevance to the discussion. The strengths and limitations of the eligible studies shall also be presented. Findings indicated that whilst there are some philosophical differences to most Western based approaches to counselling compared to Islamic teachings, incorporating or acknowledging Islamic philosophies and practices into the therapeutic approaches can enhance the psychological well-being of a Muslim (Haque, 2004; Utz, 2009).

AL-BURHĀN,Journal of Qurʾān and Sunnah Studies Kulliyyah of Islamic Revealed Knowledge and Human Sciences, 2019
Advancement in the way of life and urbanization have brought many great changes in the psychological well-being of people in many parts of the world. The need to be materially affluent has pushed people in the urban settlements to unnecessary stress, anxiety, conflict, dilemma, and a whole lot of other adverse psychological states of mind. Due to these psychological problems, at times, people who mainly live in the cities, respond to these situations in a negative way ignoring completely the religious and ethical principles in life. In light of this situation, this research would like to explore the concepts of mental health and psychotherapy showcased by some selected schools in the Western mainstream psychology and Islamic scripturally based psychology. Particularly, ideas advocated by Freudian Psychoanalysis, Radical Behaviourism and Humanistic Psychology will be compared with Islamic psychology. For a better understanding on issues related to mental health, this research will marginally deal with the subject of human nature confined to the scope of this research. It is hoped that a proper understanding of the concept of mental health and its management could help people to lead a meaningful life, i.e. finding peace and harmony within themselves and in the external world. As a qualitative research, the researchers will utilize the textual-analysis method in analysing relevant data to this research.

Islamically Integrated Psychotherapy: Uniting Faith with Professional Practice, 2018
Abdallah Rothman’s chapter begins this volume by distinguishing between Muslim mental health and Islamic psychology and asserting the existence of and need for a uniquely Islamic paradigm of human psychology. He goes on to describe how Islam can be viewed as a system for psychological wellbeing or a ‘science of the soul’ and how he operates from within an Islamic theoretical orientation to psychology. He concludes by giving examples from his clinical practice of how he works with his clients by employing uniquely Islamic therapeutic interventions derived from the Islamic tradition.
Drugs in Quranic Perspective: An Overview
el Harakah: Jurnal Budaya Islam
The drug is a particular term for a substance harmful to a person’s physical, spiritual (mental and emotional), and behavior when used. As a result of this effect, a person who uses drugs will become dependent on the drug and become addicted. In other words, drugs carry a very high risk that can be fatal. However, the dangers of drugs that are contagious in society today are given serious attention by Islam. In this regard, fatwā (a decision officially given by a Mufti or a Shariah State Committee) has already been issued to ban drug use. Thus, the Quran, as the primary reference in Islam, has a vital role in resolving the problem of Muslims related to drugs. Using the qualitative method of the library, this article shows that there are several verses of the Quran that discuss and provide guidance to the community in dealing with this issue. From the Quran, the word drug is associated with the meaning of the word al-Khamr (alcohol/intoxicant). Hence, the impact of drug abuse has man...

ICONIPSY 2022 FULL TEXT IAMP CONFERENCE
This study aimed to develop the concept of the human personalities structure from the Islamic perspective and the concept of Bugis local wisdom as an alternative basis for understanding humans as a whole God's creatures, which until now has been in limited studies. Humans are created gradually and perfectly. Gradual means the steps of human creation. Perfection means as the best human physical form with the provision of reason and superior nature. This study used a literature review method with eight steps from Walker and Avant. The research findings indicate that the humans in the Bugis local wisdom were conceptualized as tau. In relation to the structure of human personality in the view of Islam, there are similarities, namely the ruh is conceptualized as tau, the jisim is conceptualized as rupa tau, and the nafs is conceptualized as tautau.
Teaching Islamic ethics and ethical training: benefiting from emotional and spiritual intelligence
2012
The development of good character in Islam is mostly a process of dealing with one’s emotions. It helps to build and support good emotions like mercy, love, generosity and courage and to fight and suppress negative emotions such as jealousy, anger, selfishness and cowardice. Character building would therefore, have much to do with patience and perseverance in controlling emotions leading to negative aspects and reinforcement of emotions leading to positive ethics. Manipulation of emotions leading to good ethics would also lead one to have a spiritually and psychologically healthy life. Modern research tells us that in management and industry, those who reinforce themselves with spiritual motivation and who are emotionally intelligent tend to attain a greater competitive edge over others who are not so inclined. The main aim of this research is to investigate the new area in modern psychology namely, emotional and spiritual intelligence to try to discover whether the new psychologica...
Selected Views on Human Nature and their Implications on Education
Dinamika Ilmu Journal (Vol.18) No.2, 2018
Even though the evolution of time and scientific knowledge have provided humanity with the latest understanding on the concept of man, nevertheless man is too complicated to be comprehended in his entirety through any single study carried out on him. As for this reason, the study on man has become perennial in nature. Human nature as a topic more popularly discussed in psychology has caught the attention of many concerned parties from other fields of research. Perhaps some of the most interested people in the study of man will be theologians, philosophers, sociologists, psychologists, anthropologists, biologists, etc. It is highly improbable for parents, psychologists, counselors and teachers to render their best help and services to their subjects without having the proper understanding on the concept of man. Due to this fact, this qualitative study was conducted to analyze some selected views on human nature. Ideas provided by psychoanalysis, radical behaviorism, humanistic and Islamic psychologies were analyzed. Upon analyzing the different concepts on human nature, the researchers examined the implications and possible outcomes when such concepts are applied in the field of education. The researchers employed the textual-analysis method in interpreting the pertinent data related to this study.
