Sleep is one of the processes that greatly affects aging, It essential for mental, physical, and maintenance of physical health. Kupang East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia, a research study in a nursing home of the elderly experience have a bad quality of sleep. This study aimed to analyze the sleep quality and the factors affecting, among old age living in a nursing home at East Nusa Tenggara Indonesia. The research design was cross-sectional with primary data on 103 elderly living in nursing homes. Sleep is an essential part of life. Lack of sleep has been linked with increased morbidity and mortality. The objective of this study was to determine the sleep quality of older adults residing in a private elderly care institution in Malaysia. This cross sectional study was conducted among consenting residents of a 200-bed non-governmental charity old folks home in Penang, Malaysia. The sleep quality of the respondents was measured using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). Quality of life (WHOQOL-BREF), their attitude to ageing (AAQ), Barthel index (Activities of Daily Living) and body mass index were also measured. Data was analysed using PASW. The PSQI score ranged from 0 to 16 with a mean score of 7.1 (SD 3.4) and 76.8% (116) had scores ≥ 5. Introduction: Sleep is one of the important needs in human life and good quality of sleep among adult population reduced the risk factor for adverse health outcome. This study aimed to determine the quality of sleep and its related factors among adult population in an urban area of Pahang. Materials and Methods: Cross sectional study was done on a selected urban housing area in Pahang. Participants were adult population, aged more than 18 years old (observation unit) in selected houses (n=180). Measurements obtained via the questionnaire include respondents’ socio-demographic, co-morbidity, smoking status, physical activity, monthly household income and caffeinated drinks consumed. Background: Our daily lives depend on sleep, and as we age, our sleep patterns tend to change as well. Most people discover that getting older makes it more difficult for them to fall asleep. Chronic sleep disorders are thought to affect 40-70% of older persons, and up to 50% of cases go misdiagnosed. The purpose of this study was to ascertain the causes of insomnia and the quality of sleep in order to develop strategies for promoting sleep among the senior population in a particular Chennai community .Materials and procedure: The study, which involved 100 senior citizens living in Mel Ayanambakkam, was carried out using a descriptive correlational research design. Pretested and validated instruments, such as the Insomnia Severity Scale, the Health variables proforma, and the Demographic Variables Proforma, were used to gather data. Results: The levels of insomnia, 39% of the elderly population did not have insomnia, 28% of the elderly population had sub threshold insomnia and moderate level of insomnia, only 5% of the elderly population had severe insomnia. There was no significant association between demographic variables such as age, gender, marital status, type of family, leisure time activities and monthly income and quality of sleep (p<0.05).Conclusion: The elderly who experience sleep disturbances will increase the amount of sleep during the daytime, attention and memory problems, depression. Health care professionals especially the nurses, play a vital role in educating the community on importance of sleep among elderly population.

Context: Elderly have increased frequency of awakenings of longer durations, lower sleep efficiency, early bedtimes and wake times as compared to younger subjects. Based on data on population projections in Indonesia in 2015-2045, age groups of 60 and over will continue to increase. A large number of the elderly population can be a burden if the elderly have health problems. As we get older, there will be physical appearance, function and response in daily activity. The occurrence of sleep disorders will have an impact on cognition. To determine the correlation of sleep quality with cognitive function in the elderly in UPT PSTW Khusnul Khotimah Pekanbaru. This type of research is observational analytic with the cross-sectional approach. The study was conducted at UPT PSTW Khusnul Khotimah Pekanbaru. The sampling technique used was total sampling, with 46 respondents from a total population of 58 respondents in the UPT PSTW Khusnul Khotimah Pekanbaru. Research conducted on 46 respondents found 67% of respondents with poor sleep quality and as many as 65% of respondents experiencing cognitive impairment. Statistical test to determine the relationship of sleep quality with cognitive function in the elderly using the Spearman Correlation test showed that there was a significant relationship between sleep quality and cognitive function in the elderly in UPT PSTW Khusnul Khotimah Pekanbaru with a p-value of 0.003 (<0.05) and coefficient correlation (r) 0.427 shows the strength of the moderate relationship with the direction of the positive correlation. Sleep quality is related to and influences cognitive function in the elderly at UPT PSTW Khusnul Khotimah Pekanbaru.

OBJECTIVE To assess the burden of sleep disorders in the elderly, and the effects of various co-morbidities linked with sleep disorders. METHODS The longitudinal cross-sectional study was conducted in different outpatient departments at a tertiary care centre in Islamabad, Pakistan, from June 2014 to June 2015, and comprised patients of either gender aged 60 years or above. Pittsburgh sleep quality index and Epworth sleepiness scale were used to measure the quality and patterns of sleep and daytime sleepiness in the elderly. Data was analysed using SPSS 21. RESULTS Of the 1000 subjects, 638(63.8%) were males, and 362(36.2%) were females. The overall mean age was 66.96±7.05 years. Epworth sleepiness scale >10 was found in 265(26.5%) subjects, while Pittsburgh sleep quality index score in 516(51.6%) was >5. This study aimed to indentify the prevalence of poor sleep quality and its associated factors among community-dwelling elderly in northern Thailand. A cross-sectional study was conducted among 266 randomly selected elderly from a sub-district in rural Chiang Rai Province, northern Thailand. The elderly people were interviewed using the Thai version of the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (T-PSQI). About 44.0% of the participants had poor sleep quality (PSQI score >5), 9.4% used sleep medication, 27.1% had poor family relationships and 12.0% had mild depression. Multiple logistic regression analyses indicated that being female (OR=1.74, 95%CI 1.10-3.02), higher education level (OR=3.03 95%CI 1.34-6.86 for primary school vs no school; OR=2.48 95%CI 1.31-5.44 for >primary school vs no school), mild depression (OR=2.65, 95%CI 1.11-6.36), and poor family relationships (OR=3.65, 95%CI 1.98-6.75) were significantly associated with poor sleep quality. Background: Studies have shown that effects of low sleep quality can include cognitive decline, sleepiness during the day, and decreased quality of life. Problems with sleep have also been associated with an increased risk of hospitalization and increased mortality. Therefore, the present study was envisaged to assess the sleep quality index and the factors associated with it among the elderly. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted in rural and urban setting of Delhi. We selected 115 participants in each area using systematic random sampling. We used a semi structured questionnaire and validated sleep quality index to collect the data.
