Veil (Niqâb) Problematics in Islamic Law Perspective; Religion or Culture? (Islamic Legal Approach)

The phenomenon of wearing veil (niqâb) by Muslim women in Indonesia leads to negative perspectives frequently by the majority. Recently, mass media has also highlighted polemics related to the prohibition of wearing the veil in certain institutions and events repeatedly. This study aims to reveal the position of wearing niqab in the perspective of Islamic law, whether it is a part of religious dogma that must be maintained, or is it just a certain community’s culture that is not an obligation for every Muslim. A legal approach in Islamic studies related to the veil phenomenon is needed to reveal the status of wearing a veil. Increasing Hijab Acehnes Women: A Political Perspective

This research aims to explain the facts that it seeks to see the case of violations of Sharia Law (Islamic Law) related to the women's hijab(veil) and dress to implement Sharia Law in Aceh Indonesia. The Acehnese women wear the hijab due to the increasingly stringent Sharia Police (Islamic Police) raids in the city area. Since 2006, the hijab has grown in popularity among women, wearing a hijab following local regulations and environmental fashion. The article describes the Sharia Law offered to uphold Islamic change through the hijab for women. This research method was conducted qualitatively with interviews Sharia Police as law enforcement and teenage, adult, and older women in women's organisation and minority groups who are also affected by the implementation of Islamic Criminal Law. Women are not aware of implementing the Sharia Law, and the implementation of Qanun Jinayat related to hijab and women's clothing are still blurred. The modern hijab's fashion influences the dress habits of women, especially young girls and adults. Therefore implementing the Sharia Law seems to control the hijab and clothing in other ways as political interests in certain groups.

This study specifically focuses on the minority stigma faced by niqab wearers, particularly among university students in Lampung, Indonesia. The issue of "hijab" (veil/Islamic dress) has of late become another controversial issue of discussions and facing numerous challenges in the world, especially in western societies. As the "hijabis" increased in the world, so as the challenges, discrimination, and racism to them towards their religious obligations, rights, and freedoms also increased. This article assessed the challenges that Muslim women and converts faced in wearing hijab with focused on issues in line with discrimination, hatred, and negative perceptions about women in the hijab. The challenges usually come from family & friends, at the workplace, and in the public. The study again concentrates on the difficulties Muslim women face and how the challenges can be minimized if not eradicated. Relevant literature in several studies was reviewed on the subject matter which helps come up with the vivid challenges born Muslim women and converts go through in the public, with their family & friends, at the workplace and market and indicates also, how the challenges would be minimized by offering some remedies. The findings of the research create awareness about Islam and Muslim Islamic dress, contribute to the understanding of Islamic cultural, social, religious, and the hijab, and it again provides an understanding of what Muslim women go through daily worldwide and how to manage the situation. We conclude that Muslim women across the world must be allowed to observe their rights by having the freedom to religion and worship. These would bring peace, loving, understanding, cooperation, and respect among all religions. Finally, the study recommends that all stakeholders should help solve the challenges "hijabis" faced worldwide.

Investigating the Importance of Wearing Hijab by Muslim Women

ABSTRACT: In the West, many regard the “hijab” (veil) as a sign of oppression, with women forced to wear the garments by men. To throw light on this important issue, the current study focuses on the importance of wearing “hijab” by Muslim women according to “Al-Qur’an” (holy book of Islam) and “Al-Sunna” (Prophet Muhammad Tradition). The phenomenon of the development of the veil in Indonesia, especially among higher education has become a concern lately. This is due to the view of the public about the relationship between the use of the veil with the influence of certain ideologies. This research aims to determine the reasons and motivations for the use of the veil among female students, perceptions received in the surrounding environment, and obstacles encountered. Hijab Syar’i: Religious Expression in the Phenomenon of Hijrah among the MuslimFemale Students

Every Muslim ideally has a goal to practice Islamic laws through their religious expression. The increasing awareness of students in closing their aurat as part of their religious orders showed this fact. This paper examines the phenomena of hijrah among the millennial students in which they are committed to wear hijab syar'i. Hijab syar'i is a term or an icon to distinguish the use of non-syari or non-Islamic hijab. Hijab is a long dress that covers the entire body except for the face, hands, and feet, usually worn by Muslim women.Every student has his or her own opinions and views about this dress. Some of them considered that'hijab is hijab' and there is no need to add syar'iterm in it. Others said that hijabsyar'iis very different from the understanding of hijab clothing in general. This group found that wearing a hijab for fashion is the same as not wearing a hijab. This study will use two analyzes in examining this phenomenon, i.e. intrinsic and extrinsic. The first covers all things from within a student, while the later refers to factors outside of the student. The result showed that the phenomenon of hijrah builds awareness to the female students of self-actualization model in expressing their religious perfectness in an increasingly modernized world.

“The Practice of Headscarf Among Veiled University Students in the United States: Why They Wear The Headscarf? And What Does The Headscarf Mean to Them?

The headscarf, as a visible symbol of Islam, has aroused a great deal of scholarly investigation and debate about the meaning of the headscarf and veiled women's experiences. However, there have been few studies related to the headscarf and Muslim women on university campuses in the United States. This study focuses on veiled Muslim female students from different nationalities attending the University of Houston. The study examines the main reasons related to the students' decision for wearing the headscarf and the effect cultural background has on this decision and their experiences. The interview data of 28 veiled Muslim students of different nationalities indicated that although religious belief contributed as a main factor in the decision to wear the headscarf, for many participants' cultural background and social environment played significant roles in both their decision and conceptualization of wearing the headscarf.
