Assessment of trace metal contents of fertilizers and accumulation risk in soils, Turkey (original) (raw)
Agrochimica, 2005
Abstract
One of the most important sources of trace metals in agricultural soils is mineral fertilizer. A large quantity of fertilizers containing trace metals has ben used under farming systems in Turkey and world since years. Inthis research, cadmium (Cd) lead (Pb), nickel (Ni), copper (Cu), zinc (Zn), iron (Fe), manganese (Mn) concentrations in sixteen solid fertilizer samples, which produced in different fertilizers factories in Turkey, were analysed and trace metals contamination risk was evaluated in Turkish soils. Phosphorus fertilizers contain trace metals at concentration above those found in all other fertilizers, and ammonium nitrates and urea fertilizers contained the lowest levels of trace metals. Trace metals concentrations, except Cd, in fertilizers were lower than the median soil trace metals values. Taking into consideration the calcareous and basic soil properties in Turkish soils, trace metal toxicity due to fertilizers use is not expected to be a major problem at present....
