The Export Performance of Indonesia’s Palm Oil in International Market

Jurnal Manajemen dan Agribisnis, 2019

This study aims to analyze the performance of Indonesian exports to export destination countries in the international market. The subjects of this study are two Indonesian palm oil commodities: crude palm oil or CPO and processed palm oil or OPO (Other Palm Oil). There are four Indonesian palm oil markets in the international market, namely the Asian market, the European market, the African market, the American market, and the Australian market. The data used in this study is a time series from 1991 to 2016 and analyzed using the CMS (Constant Market Share) method. The CMS method explains the export growth performance in several components, which are the standard growth effect, the effect of product composition, the effect of market distribution, and the effect of competitiveness. The results showed that the performance of Indonesian CPO exports in the period 1991-2016 tended to decline compared to the growth of exports of all world products. Indonesian CPO is more competitive in the Asian market than the European market. The dynamics of Indonesian CPO exports in the African, American and Australian markets are quite good, but these three markets have not become the main destinations for Indonesian CPO exports. Indonesia's OPO export performance in the 1991-2016 period tended to increase compared to the growth in exports of all world products. Indonesian OPO in the Asian and African markets is more competitive than the European market. The dynamics of Indonesia's OPO exports on the American market and the Australian market are quite good, but these two markets have not become the main destinations for Indonesia's OPO market. Thus, Indonesia can maximize the performance of OPO exports when there is a rejection of Indonesian OPO in the international market.

Determinant Export Volume of Crude Palm Oil (Cpo) in Indonesia and Malaysia in the European Union Market

THE EFFECT OF PRODUCTION, PRICE, AND USD EXCHANGE RATE ON THE CPO EXPORTS VOLUME IN THE PERIOD OF 1990-2019 IN INDONESIA

International trade is important for a country to drive economic growth. Export is one of the international trade activities carried out by Indonesia, namely the export of CPO commodities. The development of CPO production and exports every year increases, so that the cultivation of oil palm plantations increases but has a negative impact on the environment and decreases the total production of other plantations because most farmers choose to cultivate oil palm. The development of oil palm plantation cultivation also has a positive impact that is the absorption of labor. CPO provides benefits to the country in the form of foreign exchange through exports. The purpose of this research is to find out how the production, price, and USD exchange rate affect the volume of Indonesian CPO export. Data collection was carried out using non-participant techniques in the form of studying the descriptions of books, theses, articles and websites. Data were analyzed using multiple linear regression. The results of this study found that simultaneouslythe production variable 1 , price 2 , and the USD exchange rate 3 had a significant effect on Indonesia's CPO export volume. The production 1 partially has a positive and significant effect on the CPO exports volume. Price 2 and USD Exchange Rate 3 partially have a positive but not significant effect on the CPO exports volume.

The Price of Palm-Cooking Oil in Indonesia: Antecedents and Consequences on the International Price and the Export Volume of CPO

Journal of Economics and Sustainable Development, 2014

Palm-cooking oil is considered to be one of the primary commodity for the Indonesians. In the world of the palm-oil products, Indonesia has currently established its contribution to the production of palm-oil goods globally. However, in the local market, Indonesia has experienced the volatility on the price of one of the most popular palm-products': the palm-cooking oil. Extant literature suggest various factors affecting the palmcooking price in Indonesia. The objective of this study is to analyze the influence of the volume of palm-cooking oil production, the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), the consumer price index, the export tax of Crude Palm Oil (CPO), the Indonesian Rupiah (IDR) exchange rate, the volume of CPO production, the price of soybean oil, the size of plantations area, and interest rate on to the price of palm-cooking oil in Indonesia. In addition, by using SEM on the 204 samples covering the period during 1996-2012, this study expands the analysis by further investigating the effect of these nine factors to determine the international price of CPO and the volume export of CPO. Generally, the main findings indicate that the nine factors as mentioned influence the price of palmcooking oil, the international price of CPO and the volume export of CPO individually. More specifically, as the substitution product to the soybean oil, the palm-cooking oil have underlined the greater elasticity due to the various utilities that can be further produced to fulfil the local and international demands that has increased progressively.

Factors Affecting the Performance of Indonesia ’ s Crude Palm Oil Export

2011

Oil palm has played important role in the economy. Since 2007, Indonesia has become the main CPO producer in the world with total production of 16.8 million tons. This research is aimed at analyzing factors affecting the performance of CPO export. The main tool of analysis was multiple regressions with 38 years data. It was found that government policies were not optimum in supporting CPO export, while export financing was the most important factor. The other factor was CPO price in the world market. Meanwhile, the black campaign has significant but negative impact. The prices of sunflower and soybean oil have had significant and positive impact on CPO export volume. Variables which have no impact were domestic price, domestic consumption, CPO production volume, exchange rate, GDP per capita of export destination countries, crude oil price, and government policy. Although affected by global crisis, Indonesia’s CPO export still has a very bright prospect in the

Export intensity and competitiveness of Indonesia's crude palm oil to main destination countries

Agricultural Economics (Zemědělská ekonomika), 2021

Palm oil is a superior product from Indonesia that is continuously and widely used for daily needs such as cooking, grooming, and manufacturing.
