The Online Learning Challenges of EFL Students In San Pedro University During The Covid-19 Pandemic

The spread of Covid-19 in Indonesia has an impact on the country's educational system. Face-to-face instruction is being replaced by full-fledged online learning from the comfort of one's own home. This study was conducted to determine the challenges of online learning on EFL students. A qualitative method was applied in this study. The data for this study was gathered through interviews and documentation. EFL students from the English education department at Universitas San Pedro in the first semester were the focus of this study. The findings of this study revealed that students faced a variety of challenges while learning online, including internet data, internet connection, difficulty completing assignments, intrusion, a lack of prior experience with technology, comprehension of EFL lessons, and interaction between students and lecturers. On the other hand, students have reported feelings of dissatisfaction and unhappiness as a result of their online learning.

Covid-19 pandemic brings changes in many aspects of peoples' lives throughout the world. The spread of Covid-19 in Indonesia affects the education system in this country. The findings disclosed that these EFL students' main challenges in attending online learning were the unsteady networks and the less direct interactions. These students mainly suggested the use of video conferencing applications such as zoom or Google meet, though some students chose assignments over those applications. The students also mentioned that they basically needed grammar related materials within the online classes. The findings bring forward the picture of full online learning condition during Covid-19 outbreak on EFL setting in Indonesia.

EFL Students' Perceptions Of Online Learning During The Covid-19 Pandemic: A Case Study

The COVID-19 pandemic has drastically changed many things, including education. This study aimed to examine students' perceptions of online learning during the COVID-19 pandemic. The study employed a quantitative approach. Data collection was done by distributing an online questionnaire to 100 selected undergraduate students majoring in English Language and Literature at the University of Prizren, Kosovo. The study's findings indicated that students had negative perceptions of online classes during the COVID-19 pandemic. Lack of quality, lack of proper interaction and concentration, lack of computer skills were the major problems experienced by undergraduate students at the University of Prizren. Based on the research results, it can be concluded that the respondents of this study were not willing to accept their courses via online mode.

Exploring Benefits and Obstacles of Online Learning During the Covid-19 Pandemic in Efl Students' Experiences

Online Learning amidst Global Pandemic: EFL Students' Challenges, Suggestions, and Needed Materials

Thus, the present study elucidates 45 EFL students' challenges, suggestions and needed materials during these online classes. Efl Students’ Responses on Online Learning Process During COVID-19 Situation in Indonesia

Indonesian EFL students faced online teaching and learning in such a rapid process. Therefore, this research was carried out to search for EFL students in Indonesia about their responses on teaching and learning online. This research applied the action research method with the paradigm of quantitative descriptive approach. Data for this research was collected via an online questionnaire, distributed to one class size sample consisting of 32 students in the even semester of the 2019/2020 academic year at one of the private colleges in the West Sumatra province of Indonesia. The data were analysed by descriptive statistics, especially the percentage of each item available in the questionnaire. Findings of this research show that the respondents, or the students, had their evaluation toward the online teaching and learning. The significance of this research is that their responses briefly invite us as scholars, teachers, and lecturers, or scholar-practitioners, to think about the feasibility condition of online teaching and learning, that it should be done contextually and prepared carefully. The Covid-19 pandemic situation has forced students to face double challenges in education: learning the materials in such a digitalized situation and handling external issues emerging while learning online.

Students’ Perception of Online Learning during COVID-19 Pandemic: A Case Study on the English Students of STKIP Pamane Talino

The pandemic of COVID-19 has forced the Indonesian government through its Ministry of Education and Culture to implement policies moving conventional classroom to online classroom. The current study is a collective case study consisting of analysis of survey on students' perceptions of their online learning during the pandemic. Sixty-six students of English Language Education Study Program at Pamane Talino College of Education (STKIP Pamane Talino) were involved. Their perception s of their online classroom that were recorded through a survey. The recorded perceptions are in terms of students' participation, accessibility, material and assignment delivery, and the use of e-learning platforms. The results were then summarized into tables and narrative descriptions. The study identified three major obstacles in conducting online learning in English Language Education Study Program at STKIP Pamane Talino: the first is availability and sustainability of internet connection, the second is accessibility of the teaching media, and the last is the compatibility of tools to access the media. The result of the current study suggests that accessibility is still the major factor influencing the success of online learning. Online learning for English Language Education Study Program at STKIP Pamane Talino, and potentially Indonesia in general, requires some more friendly platforms so that students' participation can be increased. This is especially for students who reside in rural areas with limited internet connections and other support systems.

INVESTIGATING THE PERCEPTIONS OF EFL STUDENTS TOWARDS PSYCHOLOGICAL CHALLENGES OF ONLINE EDUCATION DURING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC

This study aimed at exploring the psychological challenges of Iranian English as a foreign language (EFL) learners in online courses during the pandemic. The present research had a qualitative design and used thematic analysis (TA). The participants of this study were 50 Iranian EFL students, including 31 females and 19 males, who were selected from the English translation B.A. program of the English department of Islamic Azad University, Iran. To select the participants, the convenience sampling was applied. They were students of 6 th and 7 th semesters. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 50 participants of the study. Each participant was interviewed individually. The interview consisted of 15 researcher-made questions. The interviews were administered in ten one-hour sessions. Each session five participants were interviewed. The results of the present study showed that the main reasons and causes of psychological challenges perceived by the participants in online classes during the COVID-19 pandemic include on-line classes as a stress-provoking learning context, lack of digital literacy, low quality and speed of internet connection, platform issues, coronavirus disease stress, and lack of direct interactions. At the end of the paper, the implications of the study are presented.

EFL Students’ Perception Towards Online Learning: What to Consider?

The outbreak of the deadly coronavirus at the end of 2019 (Covid-19) has pushed many education institutions to do a radical transformation by moving all forms of their services, particularly teaching from traditional face-to-face mode to completely online foreign language teaching. This research aims to investigate Indonesian students’ perception of online learning and the three most challenging problems they encountered when enrolling in it under the context of English as Foreign Language students. Based on a review of the literature on online learning and students’ perception, a questionnaire was constructed and distributed to 57 students that had enrolled in an online course via google form along with a question asking the three most challenging problems they encountered during the course. Challenges and Opportunities of Shifting to Online Education in University EFL Classes During the COVID-19 Pandemic

The outbreak of the COVID-19 revolutionized education all around the world. The urgent shift to online education (emergency remote teaching) has been very demanding for administrators, teachers, students, and anyone involved in education. Although online and blended learning has long been practiced in education, this sudden unplanned shift created a different image, especially in less technologically developed countries. Accordingly, the present case study aimed at understanding the existing challenges and opportunities of this urgent shift to online education through the perspectives of Iranian EFL university students in online General English (GE) classes. A total of 68 university students participated in the study and the data was collected through semi-structured interviews, focus groups, and students’ reflection sheets. Content analysis using Nvivo 11® was conducted for the triangulated textual data. The findings were categorized into four major groups of challenges and opportunities, including technological, psychological/affective, linguistic, and environmental/social. Overall, 16 challenges and 11 opportunities were investigated that are discussed thoroughly in the paper.
