Kimlik, ‘Kimsiniz? Kimlerdensiniz?’ sorularına verilen bir cevap olmanın ötesinde, toplulukların ve ulusların kültürel durumuna dair veriler bütünüdür. Kimlik, tanımlanması ve tamamlanması zor süreçleri ile bir olgu değil bir kavram olarak ele alınmaktadır. XX. yüzyılda sosyal bilimlerin tartışma alanına giren kimlik kavramı, sosyal kimlik kuramının araştırma konusudur. John Turner (1947-2011) ve Henri Tajfel (1919-1982) tarafından literatüre giren sosyal kimlik kuramına göre, kimlik, bireysel ve sosyal/kültürel alanlara sahiptir. Bireysel ve kültürel kimliğe ait göstergeler figüratif resim sanatında kullanıldıklarında, insan imgesi üzerinde bireylerin ve toplulukların kimliğini temsil etme olasılığı taşımaktadırlar. Sanat tarihi, temsil edilen ve yeniden inşa edilen kültürel kimlik göstergeleri ile iç içedir. Figüratif resim sanatında kimlik kavramını konu alan bu metinde, Osmanlı Devleti’nin geç dönemlerinde ürettiği eserlerle anılan ressam Halil Paşa’nın ‘Madam X’ tablosu kültürel kimliğin temsili bağlamında konu edilmektedir. Abstract The identity is, 'Who are you? Who are you from?' is more than an answer to the questions, it is a set of data on the cultural status of communities and nations. Identity is treated as a concept, not a phenomenon, because of its processes that are difficult to define and complete. The concept of identity, which entered the discussion area of social sciences in the twentieth century, is the subject of research of social identity theory. According to the theory of social identity introduced into the literature by John Turner (1947-2011) and Henri Tajfel (1919-1982), identity has individual and social/cultural spheres. When indicators of individual and cultural identity are used in the art of figurative painting, they have the possibility of representing the identity of individuals and communities over the human image. Art history is intertwined with represented, reconstructed cultural identity indicators. In this text, which deals with the concept of identity in figurative painting, the painting 'Madame X' by the painter Halil Pasha, who is known for the works he produced in the late periods of the Ottoman Empire, is discussed in the context of the representation of cultural identity.
