Introduction: Drug use is a social problem that affects mainly young people. t he school is thus regarded as one of the basic pillars in preventing drug addiction. t he aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of licit and illicit drug use among high school teachers of Caruaru-PE. Methods: Cross-sectional study of 60 teachers from public and private schools in the city of Caruaru-PE. We used frequency measures and bivariate tests of association (chi-square test) for the statistical analysis. Results: 47.5% of the te achers used licit drugs and 37.7% had used illicit drugs. Concerning licit drugs, we found that 23.0% of the teachers were smokers, all consumed alcoholic beverages, especially beer (33.3%) and wine (20.0%), and alcohol consumption was higher in males (60.0%) and in the 31-40 year age bracket (57.7%).
