Entrepreneurial Intention from the Context of B40 Strata

ADVANCES IN BUSINESS RESEARCH INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL

Moving towards a developed nation in 2050, government is committed to boost up the wellbeing and income of low-income earners (B40) household towards middle class society. Considering SMEs instrumental roles in creating prosperity for the nation, variety of programs have been established in promoting entrepreneurial activity to address pockets of poverty and socio-economic imbalances among B40 group. Therefore, study related to B40 entrepreneurial intention is worth further examination. Following the Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB), the study examines the extent to which attitude, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral control predict entrepreneurial intention among B40 in Malaysia. A questionnaire survey was done using the sample of B40. The hypotheses were analysed by using partial least square-structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM). The result suggests that only attitude and perceived behavioural control were significant to explain B40 entrepreneurial intention yet subject...

Modelling of Entrepreneurial Intention among Politeknik Malaysia Students using Partial Least Squares – Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM)

FLE Learning, 2017

This study explores entrepreneurial intention from psychological perspectives. By adopting the psychological characteristic, Need for Achievement by McClelland (1961) and Ajzen's Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB), the study is to investigate the factors influencing Entrepreneurial Intention among polytechnic students in Malaysia. A survey method was employed to collect the data, resulting 372 usable data. The respondents are the final year diploma students studying accountancy, civil engineering, and electronic engineering from seven polytechnics in Malaysia. PLS-SEM technique was run, with the application of bootstrapping method, to test the relationship between research models constructs; Need for Achievement, Attitudes, Subjective Norms, Perceived Behavioural Control, Self-Efficacy, and Entrepreneurial Intention. The measurement (outer) model and the structural (inner) model of the latent constructs are examined. The findings found that all seven hypotheses are supported. It is suggested for future studies to adopt this model and replace Need for Achievement with other psychological characteristics.

Entrepreneurial Intention Determinants: An Empirical Model and a Case of Iranian students in Malaysia

This study investigated entrepreneurial intention among graduate students of USM**** Engineering Campus. Applying the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB; Ajzen), we examined the empirical model of entrepreneurial intention determinants. Although research has been conducted in entrepreneurial intention, limited study has been done among Iranian graduate students who are studying abroad. This research aims to fill this gap using Entrepreneurial Intention Questionnaire (EIQ, version 3.1). Accordingly, a survey study was applied and Iranian graduate students of the USM Engineering Campus were studied using the census method. The authors propose an empirical model and tested its reliability and validity using structural equation modeling. Data was analyzed using Spss16 and Amos18 software. Results revealed that the level of knowledge about business sources of assistance for entrepreneurs in addition to components of the TPB, affected entrepreneurial intention. Empirical model 's goodness of fit indices indicated good model fit χ2=1.047, df=2, probability 0.592; NFI= 0.981; CFI= 1.000; RMSEA=0.000). It seems that current empirical model could be a guide for future research on this important topic.

DETERMINANTS OF ENTREPRENEURIAL INTENTION IN PERSPECTIVE OF THEORY OF PLANNED BEHAVIOUR

Management Theory and Studies for Rural Business and Infrastructure Development, 2018

One of the most concerning issue being faced by the under developed countries i.e. Pakistan, is how to create job opportunities for their young lads. In Pakistan, innumerable of youngsters are graduating from the universities annually, with few corresponding job of opportunities which is causing social vice in form of violence and crimes.Entrepreneurship can play an effective role in generating employment opportunities in the country which in turn help in reducing unemployment rate, alleviating poverty and improving livelihood. Thus, it has become a tinted area of for the researcher to study antecedents of entrepreneurial intentions. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to investigate the antecedents of entrepreneurial intention in perspective of theory of planned behaviour. For doing so, a deductive approach of logic was adopted and data were collected from 250 students with the help of structured questionnaire. To empirically test the model, structural equation modelling technique was used with the help of SmartPLS software version 3.The findings supported all the hypothesized associations. This study contributed to practice and knowledge domain by endorsing the incorporation of Self efficacy and perceived risks into TPB model.

Relationship among Influential Factors of Entrepreneurial Intention: An Associational Study

Modern Applied Science, 2015

Nowadays, entrepreneurship has become an important concept in economic, social, and political aspects of our lives. In addition, research on entrepreneurship and significant factors which influence entrepreneurs' intention has become a topic of interest for scholars in many countries. In the past few years, the number of universities offering entrepreneurship courses have increased dramatically, which indicates the increasing importance of entrepreneurship in social, economic, and political dimensions. This research in entrepreneurship has adopted intention models based on Ajzen's theory of Planned Behavior and aims to find out the relationship among influential factors of entrepreneurial intention (i.e., education, previous experience, attitude, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral control) and investigate their effects on entrepreneurial intention. The study was carried out with postgraduate students and the data was collected from 380 male and female master students in Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) who were in their final year of study. The results showed that there were statistically positive significant relationships among education, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral control of postgraduate students. However, there was no statistical relationship between education and attitude. The results might be helpful for the governments and university policy makers who try to motivate students to become entrepreneurs.

Applying Theory of Planned Behavior on Entrepreneurial Intent Among Malay Accounting Students in Malaysia

The Malaysian government is strongly promoting entrepreneurship as a career choice among students. However, many students do not turn out to be entrepreneurs after their graduation, especially Malays, despite the government call. It is proposed in this paper that students' behavior and decision to become entrepreneurs can be explained by their intention, which is influenced by three factors i.e. attitude towards entrepreneurship, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral control. Therefore, theory of planned behavior (TPB), developed by Ajzen (1985), was applied as a basis for this study. A sample of 141 final year Malay accounting students selected randomly in two public universities in Malaysia were asked to complete questionnaires with 18 items that measured all variables under study. Descriptive and inferential analyses were run to test the hypotheses formulated. Multiple regression analyses were specifically conducted to test the model derived from TPB. Findings show that the model is valid in predicting entrepreneurial intention. In particular, the study shows that all three factors significantly influence students' intention to be an entrepreneur. Perceived behavioral control emerged as the strongest factor that influences intention. The study's findings have important implications especially to policy makers in promoting and developing future entrepreneurs in Malaysia such as in the area of entrepreneurship education.

PREDICTORS TOWARDS ENTREPRENEURIAL INTENTION: A Malaysian Case Study

ajbms.org

The bumiputra population in Malaysia seems unable to match the nonbumiputras especially the Chinese in terms of their entrepreneurial character. The small number of small business startup by the bumiputras in Malaysia evidently shows this. One reason suggested by many academics is the risktaking propensity by the bumiputras. This research intends to investigate the relationship between risk taking propensity and entrepreneurial intention among the bumiputras and Chinese in Malaysia. The respondents for this study were 746 students studying in Universiti Malaysia Sabah. Questionnaires were used in the data collection process. The results revealed that the Chinese respondents had significantly higher risk taking scores than the bumiputras. The Chinese were also found to be more intent to become entrepreneurs upon graduation from the university. This clearly explains why the Chinese are predominantly involved in business in Malaysia as compared to the bumiputras. Significant differences were also found between genders whereby male respondents were found to have higher risk taking scores and more intent to become entrepreneurs than the females. The degree programs in which the students are enrolled in also showed significant differences with the Science students having the highest risk taking scores followed by the Business and the Arts students.

Determinants of entrepreneurial intentions using Theory of Planned Behavior

2018

This study aimed to examine the dimensions of theory of planned behavior on entrepreneurial intention through attitude, subjective norms, and perceived behavior controls. The sample of this study consisted of 384 students from four public and private universities in Khartoum State. The sample was chosen through the use of non-random sampling technique from the students who were still studying at these universities to facilitate the distribution of questionnaires, the return, and accuracy of answers given by those students. The study used the Path Analysis modeling technique through using (AMOS v 25) for hypotheses testing. The results revealed that entrepreneurial attitude does not have a positive effect on entrepreneurial intention at 0.05 significant level. However, both subjective norms and self perceived have a positive effect on entrepreneurial intention at 0.05 significant level. The study makes theoretical contributions to the body knowledge through applying theory of planned...

Validating the Entrepreneurial Intention Model on the University Students in Saudi Arabia

The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Business, 2020

The main objective of this paper is to examine the applicability of Linan and Chen's entrepreneurial intention model (EIM) in predicting the entrepreneurial intention. EIM is an adaptation of the Theory of Planned Behavior that focuses on entrepreneurial intention and hypothesizing slightly different patterns of relationship with regards to subjective norms. The model also includes human capital and demographic factors. Snowball sampling method was used to collect data using the entrepreneurial intention questionnaire (EIQ) through several social media platforms. The survey indicates that the overall entrepreneurial intention of Saudi students is high (mean = 5.41). Eight out of the seventeen hypothesized relationships were found to be significant. Among the demographic variables, gender-personal attitude was significant whereas self employment experience and years of business education were found to be significantly related with perceived behavioral control. The statistical analysis using partial least square structural equation modelling validated the model. All the three antecedents of entrepreneurial intention were significantly related with entrepreneurial intention. The results of this study will help policy makers to get deep understanding into the phenomenon of entrepreneurship among Saudi university students and thereby develop a conducive environment. This study also validates the entrepreneurial intention model in a different cultural context.

A study on the antecedents of entrepreneurial intentions among Saudi students

Entrepreneurship and Sustainability Issues, 2018

The present study has developed and tested a model based on Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) with addition of some psychological variables to figure out the antecedents of entrepreneurial intentions of Saudi undergraduate business students. A sample of 550 students were taken. Responses were collected by a self administered questionaire and analysed by using a univariate statistics and Partial Least Square (PLS) Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). The study has emerged with behavioral and personality antecedents (Attitude, Subjective Norm, Internal locus of control, need for achievement and propensity to take risk) of entrepreneurial intent among Saudi students. The results underpin the idea that personality factors along with the behavioral factors strengthen the predictibility of intentions to be involved in an entrepreneurial behavior.
