Basically, folklore is a type of oral literature. Where, oral literature is part of Indonesian culture. Oral literature is defined as literature that lives orally and is spread in an unwritten form, told orally from generation to generation from generation to generation. Folk stories are passed on by word of mouth and from generation to generation. Folklore is a type of literature that is often told by a teacher to students, parents to their children, society and speakers to listeners (Andayani, 2018; Kahar, et.al., 2019; Sapirin, et.al., 2019; Sundari, et.al., 2017). Folklore is not only a tool for telling stories, but also as a tool for educating the public. Folklore can be used as one of teaching materials. The purpose of using folklore is to stimulate students in order to develop their positive characters. In addition, folklore is used in teaching for preserving Indonesian history which gradually disappears in the midst of digital era. The present research applies descriptive qualitative research method. Meanwhile, the research approach applied is ethnographic approach. In order to get rich results, the present research also obtains the data from documents and interview. Passive observation technique is also applied within this research. Open-ended interview is also implemented. This research also uses data analysis method in which it has three components of interactive analysis, namely data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results suggest that there are nine values of character education learned from the characters' attitude and description including 1) tolerance, 2) gratitude, 3) perseverance, 4) wisdom, 5) affection, 6) fortitude, 7) justice, 8) positive attitude and 9) modesty.

Folklore originated from the oral tradition of society, full of messages of value and morals to be conveyed in one generation to the next generation. Folklore can be used as a means to guide children to behave well because it contains many pieces of advice that can be used as life lessons.This study aims to: (1) describe the meaning and value of the Toba Batak folklore entitled The Polite Source of Life, Not Caring for the Source of Destruction (2) revitalizes the Toba Batak folklore to be implemented in the formation of character education of children. The research method using the qualitative method with the descriptive approach. Data collection techniques include literature studies and in-depth interviews. Informants selected purposively who are experts about the Toba Batak folklore. Nevertheless, today the phenomenon that occurs in society, especially the younger generation no longer recognize the values contained in folklore. Also, the school also does not include folklore become part of learning. From the research results obtained that the Toba Batak folklore is full of character education values to form noble moral behavior. The values are, charge, concern, obedient to the parents, not arrogant or humble, helping others, respecting others, sincere, be fair and no strings attached. Revitalization of the values contained in this folklore can be done by preserving and transforming it to the young generation in the form of education, especially in the local content curriculum, extracurricular activities in the form of theater/drama and film/video making.

Nowadays, character education is necessary to control and to cultivate teenagers’ character especially in education. It is important to implement the character education value due to the number of cases where teenagers especially students whose behaviour has deviated from the norms and become cause of concern. This study aimed to (1) describe the values of character education contained in the folklore that used as subject material in Ganesha Vocational High School and (2) the relevance of the values of character education in the folklore in the development of student character. The design of this research is descriptive-qualitative. The subjects of this study are 10 folklores used in Ganesha Vocational High School and teachers of Indonesian subjects in Ganesha Vocational High School. The object of this study is the values of character education contained in the folklore and its relevance to the formation of student characters. This research stems from the emergence of a problem which is the lack of knowledge of millennial children about folklore from their respective regions, especially children in Southeast Sulawesi. Preservation of folklore which is one part of traditional literature is very important because one of the functions of folklore is as children's character education. One of the folklores from Southeast Sulawesi that needs to be preserved is "Tula-Tula Metulungino Mie Kodosa folklore" originating from Muna. The purpose of this study was to determine the character education contained in Tula-Tula Metulungino Mie Kodosa folklore. This research is a literature study. The method used is descriptive qualitative method. The source of the research data comes from the book, Buton and Muna Folklore in Southeast Sulawesi, which was published by the Ministry of Education and Culture in the Language Development and Language Development Center in 1998 in Jakarta, 144 pages thick. The result showed that character education contained in the Tula-Tula Metulungino Mie Kodosa folklore, that is helpful, kind, patient, and never give up. This folklore is important for millenial generation in digital era because it educates them to have good characters and helpfull in preventing the folklore extinction.
Lampung Folklore with Scaffolding: Efforts to Strengthen Indonesian Students’ Character

Attempts to improve the survival of culture, one of which is legend or folklore. In recent years, the presentation of culture in the form of works through folklore has become less attractive. This research aims to create an interactive book on Lampung folklore that incorporates character values and describes the strengthening of students' character through interactive folklore books incorporate character values. This study employs Borg and Gall's research and development procedure. Data collection methods include direct observation or observation, interviews, questionnaires, focus groups, and a literature review. Moral Value and Character Building Education in Folklore from Central Java “Timun Mas”

Folklore is a story that originated in society and developed in society in the past which played an important role in the development of children's character learning in the form of moral values. The purpose of this study was to explain the moral values contained in folklore to improve character education. This study used a qualitative descriptive research design. Where all the data collected is based on books and other supporting document data. From the discussion of the Timun Mas folklore, there are eight prominent moral values, namely religious values, independent values, curiosity values, hard work values, responsibility values, honesty values, creativity, the value of the spirit of hard work. And from the research results, it can be concluded that the folklore of Timun Mas has many moral values that can be applied in the world of Education to shape character .

The background of this research is related to several deviations in the character of primary school students. Thus, it is necessary to provide educational media that can be imitated. This study analyzes the values of character education from Denias Senandung Di atas Awan movie by John De Rantau that primary school-age students can imitate. Qualitative research is a research approach used with the type of documentary research, which is one type of research in qualitative. Documentation technique is used for collecting data which contain writings related to the plot of the story in the movie under study. Data analysis in this study uses content analysis.
