Improvement in Operational Efficiency Due to ERP Systems Implementation
Information Resources Management Journal, 2006
ERP systems are expected to provide many benefits, including improved business efficiency. However, they are also blamed for several business problems and failures. Past studies have analyzed investments in ERP systems based on net income, return on investment, new present value or change in market value of a firm. We argue that an analysis of more direct measures — intangible or tangible — would enhance confidence in the efficacy of ERP systems. We investigate the impact of ERP systems implementation on operational efficiency of medium sized firms in the pharmaceutical and chemicals industry. Our analysis of the data indicates that for a majority of the firms improvement of operational performance expected due to ERP systems did not materialize.
Journal of Economic Education and Entrepreneurship Studies, 2024
This study aims to analyze the effect of implementing an ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) system on operational and financial efficiency in the manufacturing industry. ERP systems are known to simplify business processes and improve efficiency, but their impact varies across companies. Using the linear regression method, this study measures the effect of variables such as production time reduction, inventory management, productivity improvement, cash flow improvement, and operating cost reduction on firm efficiency. Data was obtained from ten manufacturing companies in Indonesia that implemented ERP systems in the period 2016-2021. The results showed that all independent variables had a positive and significant effect on operational and financial efficiency. Regression coefficients show that reduced production time and improved inventory management contribute significantly to efficiency, with coefficients of 0.452 and 0.328, respectively. Increased productivity, improved cash flow, and reduced operating costs also showed a positive influence with coefficients of 0.378, 0.414, and 0.391. These findings indicate that ERP system implementation can effectively improve operational and financial efficiency in the manufacturing sector, contributing to cost reduction and productivity improvement. This research is expected to provide insights for companies considering ERP implementation to improve their operational and financial performance.
The relationship between implementation variables and performance improvement of ERP systems
International Journal of Technology Management, 2007
The purpose of this paper is to explore the relationship between some implementation variables and performance improvement of ERP systems. DeLone and McLean (1992) surveyed 180 articles attempting to measure information systems (IS) success and proposed an analysis framework, composed of six dimensions, for assessing the ERP performance in the post-implementation stage. In this paper, DeLone-&-McLean's framework will be used to develop the ERP performance measures fit for ERP adopters of Taiwan. The implementation variables explored in this paper are ERP implementation statuses (all the planned modules having been implemented or not), ERP system sources (packaged ERP systems or nonpackaged ERP systems), and ERP implementation strategies (integral or step-by-step planning; Big Bang or phased approach). Structured questionnaire were sent to those companies listed in the TOP500 The Largest Corporations in Taiwan 2001. The research findings indicate that the companies using nonpackaged ERP systems, integral planning and having implemented all the planned ERP modules will have the better performance improvement.
Effect of ERP Implementation on the Company Efficiency – A Macedonian CASE
Lecture Notes in Business Information Processing, 2013
Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) is slowly find its place in many organizations in Macedonia. The primary goal of an ERP implementation is managing and coordinating all resources, information, and business processes from shared data stores. This paper elaborates on an ERP solution implementation in the Macedonian production sector and the effect it has on the company efficiency. A case study was conducted in a small or medium-sized manufacturing company in Macedonia during a period of seven years and compared to empirical findings of ERP systems implementations in developed countries. Findings show almost similar results. ERP systems implementations require time, money and management commitment and the effect to improve efficiency is embryonic. However it was also noticed that ERP system implementation helps in the transformation of the ownership of the company and in establishing better market competitiveness.
Measuring the Tangibles and Intangibles Value of an Erp Investment
Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) recent is widely implemented in various fields of industry. However, there are companies which still vacillate to decide for investing the ERP systems. This vacillation comes from consideration that ERP system is the high investment cost and also there is an apprehensive of inadequate technical capability. Therefore, taking into account the ERP contribution or impact both of tangible and intangible value including cost and benefit to the evaluation is essential for the success of this project. This paper will reveal how the factor of cost and benefit in an economic analysis can be applied to ERP investment plan. The expected increase of market share due to the customer satisfaction is determined in expressions of information cycle time and quality between customers and suppliers by using fuzzy rule based system. Furthermore, the expected Net Present Value (NPV) is calculated by employing the Monte Carlo simulation method.
Cost, Benefit, and Financiall Risk (CoBeFR) of ERP Implementation
2013
The purpose of this research is to develop Benefits, Costs, and Financial Risks (CoBeFR) model to show and measure the impact of ERP related decisions, such as degree of business process reengineering and the level of hardware investment, on the organisational financial value (OFV). OFV is based on current time value of money (i.e. interest rate), financial risk, and net cash flows emerged from ERP system. Financial risk, the sensitivity of the organisation net profit to changes in market conditions, is affected by organisational adoption of ERP system. The main conclusion is that there are interrelated impacts of ERP implementation decisions to the organisational financial value. Therefore, decision maker should look at the implementation decision from a new perspective which is Organisational Financial Value (OFV) perspective
The analysis of performance before and after ERP implementation: a case of a manufacturing company
Journal of Applied Research in Technology & Engineering
Machines and technology have been known for saving the efforts and so the time of the human race. Thus in the gravity of consideration to this point, companies are required to innovate their process and practices to improve productivity. The present research was conducted at ABC manufacturing company having three departments i.e. A, B, and C. The significant impact after ERP implementation in terms of time-saving has been reflected in the present research. The nature of working and nature of manufacturing is different in all the departments; that`s why each department has its business development team. The case company has implemented an industrial and financial system (IFS) in 2020 and the whole process is properly followed in IFS. In this study, the process flow of documents and time consumption on each step of obtaining approvals from various authorities is covered, and saved time after the implementation of IFS is also revealed in detail. Results indicated that, after the implem...

ERP implementation effort estimation using data envelopment analysis
2007
In the last years an increasing number of enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems like SAP R/3, BaaN or Oracle Applications have been implemented. This implementation of the selected solution is risky and complex for individual companies, since on the one hand the software and especially the necessary manpower is relatively expensive and on the other hand in this process possibly the internal business processes need to be adapted as well.
ERP System Total Cost of Implementation in Slovak and Slovenian Companies
Enterprise resource planning (ERP) system implementation is probably the most laborious and rather costly part of the ERP system life-cycle. The paper provides a percentage structure of total cost of implementation (TCI) from end-user company's perspective. It should be of interest to companies planning to implement ERP systems, since literature suggests that TCI can be 3-5 times higher than the software license alone. TCI is, for purpose of this paper, split into the following four parts: software license, programming of changes, organizational implementation, and hardware costs. ERP systems used to be a domain of large companies but there is a still increasing number of small and middle enterprises (SMEs) adopting them as well. Based on research done in Slovenia and Slovakia, the impact of the different company size, the country, existence of formal information strategy, representation of the IT department on the board level, and turnover growth on individual parts of TCI is analyzed and findings are discussed.
