ATTITUDE OF GRADUATE STUDENTS TOWARDS HIGHER STUDIES

ATTITUDE OF GRADUATE STUDENTS TOWARDS HIGHER STUDIES, 2018

Indian higher studies have never accepted much eminence when compared to the primary level. Academicians of our country have already pointed out that for economic and social well-being of our country majorly depends on the quality and prevalent of higher studies in our country. The main hindrance is the misconceptions by the general public of our country which is accompanied by the economic issues. The vision of Ministry of Human Resource and Development heads the department of Higher Education whose aim is to realize India's human resource prospective to its fullest in the education sector, with equity and excellence. Higher studies is a precious affair when we take into consideration the fact that almost 20% of the population still lie under the poverty line. There is still a gap in the level of enrolment between males and females. The government is trying hard to overcome this disparity. Skills have often been ignored in our country's scenario. Thus, higher studies should also promote and encourage technical education. An All India Survey on Higher Education was initiated only in 2011, only because none of the origins had a complete picture of the data on higher studies. A large amount of population is also a problem as it becomes difficult to provide to the needs of each individual or group. The resources are meagre when compared to the people demanding for it. We should try to recognize the problems, and then we should work towards solving those problems. Public of our country should be keen to send their children for higher studies; they should be having a positive attitude towards higher studies. This paper discusses several steps that can be untaken to bridge the gaps in the system of higher studies in India.

Attitude of Secondary School Students Towards Higher Education

Zenodo (CERN European Organization for Nuclear Research), 2017

Education is the main factor of human development and as a result desirable changes are visible in human beings such as wisdom, knowledge, thinking and insight. It has the power to make an illiterate to literate and unknown to famous. Objectives of education are not related to acquiring wealth or to reach in a higher position but the true objectives of education is to make a human being to good human being. Education is continuous process which starts with the born of the child and end with death of a man. However there are different stages of education such as primary, secondary, senior secondary and higher stage with a mission to make the child civilized citizen. It is possible only when a child passes through primary to higher level.

Students Attitude Towards Higher Education

It is very frequently observed that students sign up for higher studies with less interest or take is casually. Moreover, there are very few institutions in India who are giving quality inputs so as to instill the learning skills amongst students. Higher Education System in India compare to developing and developed countries needs considerable improvement. The percentage of students taking higher education is hardly about 13 % whereas the same is varying between 28 to 90 %, across the world. It is often heard that the Institutions must also concentrate on giving away quality inputs to the students. Institutions must look into constantly updating the syllabus in order to help students adapt with the changing market scenario. But our opinion is that efforts should also be taken to guide, mentor students and parents to develop and retain interest amongst students. The present study is to determine the student attitude towards higher education. The purpose of survey is to explore attitude of students towards education and also to know their opinion regarding inclusion of research into the curriculum. This survey investigates 78 second year under graduate students of Business Administration from the Bhopal School of Social Sciences (BSSS College) and ascertain the level of attitude towards education among the students in various factors. The researchers conducted interviews and obtained quantitative a well as qualitative data. The results revealed that the majority of the students have decided to pursue their higher studies for getting good employment. Also, it is found that the girls' attitude towards education (positive) is more than boys' and they all have a strong desire to get admitted in top B Schools for their MBA. Introduction Our country has more than 1.4 million schools with over 227 million students enrolled and more than 36,000 higher education institutes. India has one of the largest higher education systems in the world. However, there is still a lot of potential for further development in the education system. India's higher education system is the third largest in the world, next to the United States and China. India holds an important place in the global education industry. The main governing body at the tertiary level is the University Grants Commission, which enforces its standards, advises the government, and helps coordinate between the centre and the state. Though UGC has done a lot to promote university education by maintaining the standards of teaching, examination and research in universities still we lag behind our international counterparts in higher education enrolment.

Educational Attitude and Lifestyles as Predictors of Academic Performance among Undergraduate Students in Dilla University

2020

This study was intended to explore the predictive power of educational attitude and lifestyles for the academic performance of undergraduate students. The study was conducted in Dilla University. The researcher employed survey research design to the study. The data gathered from graduating students of regular program studying in this university. A total of 150 students were selected using simple random sampling technique through lottery system from different fields of studies. After checking the validity and reliability of the instruments, the data was collected using attitude scale with 33 items and lifestyle questionnaires with 38 items. Finally, 138 filled questionnaires were encoded and entered to the analysis system. The data were analyzed using means, percentages, T-test, correlation and linear regression. Hence, the findings of the study revealed that majority 109(79%) of respondents were staying for three years in the study area. Educational attitude is positively and significantly correlated with academic performance(r = .272, p < .01). The result also illustrates that academic performance of students is positively and significantly related with lifestyle variables like self-concept, emotional state and goal orientation(r= .19, r=.17, r=.21, p<.05) respectively. Both educational attitude and lifestyles of students accounts 12% of the variance of academic performance at a significant level of confidence (R= .35, p< .05). Thus, students' educational attitudes and lifestyles predict academic performance of undergraduate students at significant level. Therefore, concerned bodies should give due attention to student related factors to improve quality of education at higher institutions. Moreover, further studies need to be done on personal factors that influence the academic performance among students in the undergraduate program.

Factors Contributing to Students' Academic Success Based on the Students' Opinion at BME Faculty of Economic and Social Sciences

This study presents the opinion of students of the Faculty of Economic and Social Sciences at the BME concerning the factors , which contribute to students' academic success. Academic success was defined by the successful completion of university studies. 478 students were consulted by online questionnaire. The factors were grouped into eight scales: practice-oriented education, student's social relationship on campus, student's study habits, supports for student's learning in classroom, stu-dent's attitude towards responsibilities in university, support by family and friends, conscious career choice and assistance provided by remedial courses. The opinions of the male and the female students varied across seven scales, with only the role of student's social relationships on campus being judged similarly by both genders. Students studying for bachelor's degrees judged the role of the student's social relationships on campus to be more important. Students on different degree programmes held differing opinions in two scales.

The students' intentions and satisfaction with the field of study and university

The present study aimed to find an appropriate method to inform senior high school students to correctly select their academic field of study and their intentions. Methods: This is a descriptive-analytic and cross-sectional study. A verified questionnaire was given to a total of 2600 students selected by stratified random sampling method (ten different colleges and entrance year from the 1 st to 4 th are considered as the strata). The position of the present field of study (major) among the list of the fields in the entrance exam was asked. The students' methods of familiarity with different fields of study in Shiraz University of Medical Sciences (SUMS), the reasons for their selection, the students' motivation and insistence on studying in the same field and university were asked in the questionnaire. Data were analyzed using independent two samples t-test, Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and Chi-Square test. Results: The most significant references for university field selection were high school teachers, the students' parents and the adjacency of university to one's living place. Also, the results revealed the good reputation of SUMS in the first year and its downward trend during the following years. 59.4% of the 1 st year students were satisfied with their field of study and SUMS. 31.8% were satisfied with the university but not with their fields of study. 6.4% were dissatisfied with the university but not with their fields of study. 2% of the students were dissatisfied with both their fields of study and university. Dissatisfaction with SUMS and field of study increased little by little so that the results obtained among the students who had entered the university earlier (in the 4 th year of their study) showed nearly 16.3% dissatisfaction with both the university and the study fields . Conclusion: The methods for introducing the university are recommended to be revised. Karbalay-Doust S. The Students'
