ADHERING AGILE METHODOLOGY IN COVID-19
Trans Stellar Journals, 2021
An approach followed to design and develop any software has an important role in determining the reliability and quality of the final Software product. So proper guidelines are required to develop a software. There are different models, that are being followed by different companies as per their requirements. Among all, Agile methodologies are most popular because of its flexibility and adaptability. But that is possible because this model involves continuous customer interaction. There are short development cycles. After which there is interaction between the stakeholders. If there is an issue or change, that is incorporated in the next cycle. The Covid-19 pandemic has a destructive effect on the socioeconomic state. This has resulted in the closure of many companies. The companies which change strategies and adapt to the current situation survived. Agility assists companies in making new changes and adapting their business in this pandemic. This paper outlines on how adhering to agile methodology assist software companies in developing software and also helped government, business organization and their supply chain in coping up with the Covid-19 pandemic.
Challenges to agile software project management practices in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic
Gestão & Produção, 2023
The Agile approach is focused on individuals and customer satisfaction, based on the dynamic and streamlined work of a team that is capable of adapting, and adapting the project to changing scenarios and demands. However, amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, Agile teams accustomed to in-person communication have encountered the challenges of working from home. The main objective of this research is to analyze the challenges generated by the pandemic context, and the consequent social distance, for the development of software projects that use Agile approaches within a large state-owned company and identify the effect it had on the course and results of the projects. The research was qualitative in nature and had two exploratory diagnostic stages. The findings indicate that there were no negative impacts of relevance on project deliveries. On the one hand, results indicated losses in socialization, in spontaneous exchanges of knowledge, and in interaction among teams, as well as a demand for greater engagement of professionals. Additionally, limitations were revealed for more complex discussions and knowledge management. The study highlights solutions that were found and/or suggested for many challenges, contributing to the literature on best practices for the Agile approach, and is focused on the unprecedented context of the COVID-19 pandemic. Our findings can contribute to other companies with a similar profile that work with Agile projects, besides contributing to building a dialogue between the academic and business environments.
COVID-19’s Influence on the Future of Agile
Agile Processes in Software Engineering and Extreme Programming – Workshops
As a result of the global COVID-19 pandemic, the way the world works, collaborates, and plays has changed. Commerce has stalled with travel, hospitality, education, retail, and health sectors particularly affected. This paper is based on an XP 2020 panel organized by Steven Fraser and featuring Aino Corry, Steve McConnell, and Rachel Reinitz. The panel discussed the impact of COVID-19 on knowledge workers, the acceleration of digital workplace transformation, and anticipated long term effects from the pandemic in the context of agile practices. Four key observations emerged from the discussion: First, virtual collaboration between those working from home is enabled by a variety of communication tools – substituting for face-to-face interactions. Second, agile work practices are harder to perform given the virtual nature of meetings and interactions. Third, communication tools are not always adequate for high-bandwidth or informal interactions, such as brainstorming, side discussions...
Enhancing distributed Agile teams’ adoption during the COVID-19 pandemic using tagick activities
Journal of Theoretical and Applied Information Technology, 2021
Due to the viral outbreak of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, organizations have adhered to social distancing and/or lockdown measurements. Project teams have shifted from direct communication in the workplace to remote working. Obviously, such sudden changes have led the organizations to face many challenges. A number of these challenges are related to the communication and cooperation among the team members and also to fulfilling the code documentation process that helps the team later in the maintenance phase. In this paper, the researchers propose a modification to the Scrum methodology called the Distributed Scrum (Di-Scrum). It is designed based on suggesting activities called the TAGICK activities (Timekeeping;Aggregation;Groupthink;Interconnectedness;Continuous documentation;and Knowledge transfer). Moreover, each activity supports the agile principles and rules. Additionally, these activities help the team members improve their performance. They also enable them to over...
Impacts of COVID-19 Pandemic for Software Development in Nordic Companies – Agility Helps to Respond
Agile Processes in Software Engineering and Extreme Programming – Workshops
In 2020, the global COVID-19 pandemic affected almost every company in some way also in the Nordic countries. Depending on the different industry sectors of the companies, the impacts have varied from minor risks to severe disruptions but also even booming businesses. In all, agility and resilience have been required to continue and even to survive. In 2018, we started conducting large-scale agile surveys in Finland and Sweden. For the 2020 survey round, we included questions about the current pandemic situation impacts and how agility has helped to respond. The respondents represented software professionals from different industries, not limited to information and communication technology (ICT) companies. The results indicate that although the perceived impacts have mostly been negative (53%), it is not all so. One-third (33%) reported positive impacts such as increased business and better well-being. The majority (55%) of the responses indicated that agility has helped to respond ...
Use and Significance of Agile Software Development
International Journal of Computer Applications, 2014
The field of agile software development is growing remarkably because of the rapidness they brought into the life cycle of a software development. Agile methods have gained the interest of software professionals and researchers globally. To overcome rapidly and fast changing software organizational business requirements, agile software development methods were brought into practice. Though a number of research studies were ended in the sector of agile development methods at different educational and academic point, but when it talks about its usage, very few detailed reporting was founded. It shows that the research is in its initial stages. The paper is making an analysis of the different objectives of current agile methods and practices, how they are different from conventional process methods, considering the difficulties appeared during the implementation of agile methodology in the project, understanding the benefits and various causes of unsuccessful agile projects and concerns and issues of their applicability. The findings indicate that organizations are enduring to scale agile development methods away from single team and single projects. Most of the respondents are using Scrum or different Scrum variants and ninety percent of respondents mentioned that agile has improved their ability to handle changing priorities and manage changing requirements of users.
Agile Development A Revolutionary Paradigm
International Journal of Innovative Research in Applied Sciences and Engineering (IJIRASE), 2020
Software engineering practices have been used for years to build software products. Choosing a software development methodology suitable for a specific project and harmonizing the methodology for clear requirements has been controversial ever since the discipline of the software development organization. Currently, the goal of most software companies is to produce software in minimal time at an insignificant cost and to produce software in an unbalanced and changing environment as Agile grows. Finding and addressing mechanisms to address and consider improving successful agile implementation, use, and delivery. In this paper, we will discuss some configurations that confirm why Agile is preferred over waterfall models. As the appeal of Agile methods grows, many software organizations are moving away from traditional systems to adopt Agile development methodologies. As an alternative to extrapolation, Agile is highly adaptable and people-focused. Support those who work closely and for joint teams. However, team size is limited by the workforce factor. This white paper provides a multidimensional observation of performance factors in agile software development projects. Then, evaluate the performance factors published in research papers, articles and technical reports related to real agile projects. To promote the indulgence of success factors, researchers organize them into five categories: organization, people, process, design, and technology. This is why in this white paper we will analyze some of the success factors of agile practices that are manipulated at the organizational level.
How do Agile Software Startups deal with uncertainties by Covid-19 pandemic?
International Journal of Software Engineering & Applications, 2020
The dissipation of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) has already taken on pandemic proportions, affecting over 100 countries in a couple of weeks. The evolution of the disease and its economic impact is highly uncertain, which brings challenges for newly created software companies. Software startups are companies that create innovative software products and services in a dynamic and fast-growing market. Agile Software Methods aims to enable startups in responding to uncertainty caused by Covid-19. This paper investigates the impact of Covid-19 in a real software startup context to understand how they have reacted against uncertainties caused by Covid-19. As a research methodology, action research within Di2Win, a Brazilian software startup, has been applied. The study was carried out throughout six sprints, during the quarantine. Practices employed to mitigate threats while simultaneously allowing teams to remain open to opportunities and challenges are detailed. This paper shares lessons learned that could help agile software startups improve their way of work in an uncertain environment caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Agile Practices: A Comprehensive Review of Literature & Local Industry
Software development is considered to be successful if completed within time and budget while satisfying customers' needs. Agile development methodologies provide flexibility to handle changing requirements, improved communication mechanisms and improved quality while enhancing the time-to market speed. Empirical studies on agile methods are mainly focused on the benefits and challenges of adopting any specific agile method. The impact of applying the individual agile practices is not addressed in detail. Hence it is difficult to investigate each practice with respect to the experiences associated with their usage. In order to address this gap, we have conducted an industrial survey to identify benefits and challenges of agile practices. The literature studies mostly report the benefits of applying agile practices while the challenges associated with the use of practices are addressed in fewer studies. The motive of this work is to confirm whether the benefits of agile practices reported in literature studies are experienced the same way in software industry and to explore the challenges of agile practices experienced by the practitioners. It is found that benefits reported in literature are strongly verified by industry and several new challenges associated with the use of agile practices are explored.
