Recommendation Techniques in Mobile Learning Context: A Review
International Journal of Modern Education and Computer Science
The objective of this article is to make a bibliographic study on the recommendation of learning activities that can integrate user mobility. This type of recommendation makes it possible to exploit the history of previous visits in order to offer adaptive learning according to the instantaneous position of the learner and the pedagogy of the guide. To achieve this objective, we review the existing literature on the recommendation systems that integrate contexts such as geographic location and training profile. Next, we are interested in the social relationships that users can have between themselves. Finally, we focus on the work of recommending mobile learning activities in the context of scenarios of field trips.

Mobile learning is a promising form of digital education to access learning content through modern handheld devices. Through mobile learning, students can learn using smartphones, connected to the Internet, without having restrictions posed by time and place. However, such environments should be enriched with sophisticated techniques so that the learners can achieve their learning goals and have an optimized learning experience. To this direction, in this paper, presents a mobile learning software which delivers interactive activities and motivational feedback to learners with the aim of advancing their higher level cognitive skills. In more detail, the mobile application employs two theories, namely Bloom’s taxonomy and the taxonomy of intrinsic motivations by Malone and Lepper. Bloom’s taxonomy is used for the design of interactive activities that belong to varying levels of complexity, i.e., remembering, understanding, applying, analyzing, evaluating, and creating. Concerning mot...
Analysis of Mobile Learning Utilization of Student Learning Interests

The rapid development of technology is making a lot of changes. The digital age as part of the change that makes everything digital. One of the impacts of change on learning is digital mediabased learning. Low interest in learning becomes one of the problems in learning. Learning that tends to be monotonous makes students less enthusiastic in learning. The number of students who have gadgets provides opportunities for the use of gadgets as a learning medium referred to as mobile learning. Interactive mobile learning can attract students' learning interests. With the existence of mobile learning as a learning medium, it can be known that the enthusiasm of learning increases and learning is increasingly enjoyable. Mobile learning-based learning can be used as a learning medium, but requires supervision and evaluation in learning.
Integrating Situational Interest and Interest Trails with Mobile Learning in an Informal Setting
2007
Museums play an important role in life-long learning with over 100 million visits in Germany alone. Museum visits provide fertile grounds for interest development and learning not only during formal school-based education but also as free choice activities by pupils and adults. In our contribution we present work in progress that strives to analyze potentials and psychological consequences of using mobile devices to meet situational interests of visitors in museum and for capturing this interest in a personalized exhibition wiki page to enable post-visit reflection and discussion. Due to the high similarity of learning in museums and learning in other informal settings (e.g. high autonomy of the learner, no formal evaluation, fleeting situational interest) the immediate satisfaction of situational interest and assessment/collection of information may be useful for lifelong learning scenarios in general.
Recommender System For Combination of Learning Elements in Mobile Environment
This paper presents an ongoing research about the development of a new recommender system dedicated to m-learning. This system is an extension of content based recommender system proposals. It's made of three levels architecture: 1/ a domain model describing the knowledge of teaching, 2/ a user model defining learner's profile and learning's context, 3/ an adaptation model containing rules and metaheuristics, which aims at combining learning modules. Our system takes into account the spatio-temporal context of the learners, the evolution of learner's profile and the dynamic adaptation of modules during the learning process in a mobile environment. The result of the recommendation is one of the best combinations of pieces of training according to mobility constraints of learners and of the know-how of teachers.
Supporting end-user development of personalized mobile learning tools
Lecture Notes in Computer Science (including subseries Lecture Notes in Artificial Intelligence and Lecture Notes in Bioinformatics), 2009
Abstract. Mobile devices present great features for the support of pervasive learning and content personalization. This paper presents a framework which takes advantage of these features and supports end-users while creating their customized tools for their students. Additionally, the framework comprises means for teachers to include persuasive and motivational mechanisms and hints, promoting student engagement while pursuing their learning activities. We describe the framework's architecture, its features, including the ...
Personalizing Learning with Mobile Technology in Secondary Education
2018
Personalizing learning with technology in secondary schools might be a way to diffuse innovations in both technology and education at the same time. In the current study, personalizing learning with technology is studied from three perspectives: teacher, learner and technology. Data about the implementation and evaluation of the interventions in school were gathered by interviews with teachers and students, teacher logbooks and teacher and student questionnaires. Moreover, test and questionnaire data were collected on achievement, school motivation and self-regulation of more than 4800 students. Effects of 35 personalizing learning interventions with mobile technology in 27 secondary schools in the Netherlands were examined. Generally, three types of personalizing learning interventions seem to increase student achievement: 1) a comprehensive approach across the school organization and programs; 2) personalizing learning with teachers differentiating either convergently or divergent...
MOBILE LEARNING TECHNOLOGY: USING PERSUASIVE MOBILE UX DESIGN TO CHANGE LEARNING BEHAVIOR
In an era of Information we are constantly battling for the attention of our learners. Learners are also having difficulties to cope with distractions, they are striving for motivation and effective time organization. This paper identifies possible role of smart-phone devices in online learning solutions: how to combine information design with persuasion design to help learners organize better, to keep track of their progress, recover from breaks, and to change their learning behavior in the long term. This research then concludes with possible directions to accomplish the construction of the user interface model of the smart-phone application
Learning Anywhere, Anytime: Student Motivators for M-learning
Journal of Information Technology Education: Research, 2013
This paper documents the outcomes of a study that focused on identifying what motivates students to use mobile devices for learning and to engage in m-learning. An outcome of this study was to provide a better understanding of what educators should consider when adapting their course for mobile learners. The research included seven classes from three Australian universities. The students in this study used laptops or tablet PCs, and in three of the classes, these were provided by the university as part of a laptop/tablet program. The findings indicated that mobility was the key motivator for the use of laptops, and the learning tasks that students found to be most motivating involved accessing information, authoring (e.g., writing, blogging, note taking) and communication. .
