Abstract
According to Lakoff (2004), certain principles should be established to measure the degree of politeness, according to which some behaviors can be considered polite and some behaviors can be considered rude. These behaviors are different in different cultures, in each culture, polite and rude behaviors are specific to the culture and thoughts of the people of that community. By comparing them, it can be seen that certain behaviors that are considered polite in one society may be rude in another society. The social status of the audience and the context of the conversation affect the accuracy of speech and the observance of etiquette and linguistic coding. The present study examines the measure of politeness used by male and female students according to the social status of the audience based on Lakoff’s (1975,2004) theory.
