Background & Aim: The occupational nature of health profession is such that employees in these occupations are exposed to various stressors which threaten their mental health. We aimed to investigate the influence of stress management and communication skills training on the improvement of mental health of nurses and hospital staff. Material & Methods: It was a quasi-experimental study. The sample included 32 nurses and other hospital staff of Baqiyatallah hospital in Tehran that were first recruited by voluntary sampling and then were randomly assigned to experimental and control groups. Stress management and communication skills training program based on the cognitive-behavioral theory was performed during a 16 hours period. Data was collected by Depression Anxiety Stress Scale (DASS) before and after the intervention and was analyzed by descriptive statistics and analysis of covariance using SPSS-PC (v. 18). Results: The results of the analysis of covariance indicated that the intervention has significantly reduced stress and anxiety in the experimental group compared to the control group (P< 0/01). However, no significant difference was seen in terms of depression (P=0/861). Conclusion: By reducing symptoms of stress and anxiety, stress management and communication skills training based on cognitive-behavior theory can improve mental health of nurses and hospital staff. Accordingly, using this program by health managers to improve mental health of their staff is recommended.

Occupational Stress and Mental Health Relationship in Nurses

Background and aim: Nursing is an stressful profession and nurses are often confronted with various stressors in their work environment. Job stress may have harmful effects on an individual’s physical and mental health and decrease quality of nursing care. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between job stress and mental health of nurses. Material and Methods: A cross-sectional design was used for the study. The sample of the study consisted of 237 nurses who were selected randomly from teaching hospitals in Hamadan, Iran. Data were collected by the nurses stress scale ( NSS) and GHQ-28. The validity of instruments was assured by a panel of experts. Cronbach’s alpha coefficient was computed to assess the reliability of instruments. The Relationship Moral Intelligence and altruism with nurses Attitude to the rights of patients

Introduction: Moral intelligence and altruism are the most effective factors on human behavior and they can have the basic roles in expanding patients' rights. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship of moral intelligence and altruism with nurses' attitudes to the rights of patients. Methods: This was a descriptive-correlational study carried out on 200 nurses in western Azerbaijan province, Iran, in 2015. Kiel and Lennik moral intelligence scale, Carlo and et al. altruism scale, and Hoshmand and et al. rights questionnaire were used for data collection. Results: The results of this study indicated that there was a positive relationship in nurses' attitudes towards patients' rights with altruism (r = 0.447), honesty (r = 0.234), responsibility (r = 0.459), forgiveness (r = 0.646) and compassion (r = 0.518) subscales of moral intelligence, which was significant at P > 0.05 level. The results of multi-variable correlation coefficient with entering method indicated that subscale of moral intelligence and altruism had a role in explaining nurses' attitudes towards patients' rights (R2 = 58.8%). conclusions: According to the results of this study, it seems that the growth of moral intelligence and altruism increases nurses' attitudes to the rights of patients.

Introduction: Considering the significance of investigating the factors affecting occupational therapists' job satisfaction, the present study was conducted to study the relationship between clinical competency and job satisfaction of occupational therapists in Tehran. Materials and Methods: A total of 62 occupational therapists (18 males and 44 females), aged between 23-48 (M=29.58, SD=6.96), employed in governmental organizations and private sectors, participated in the present study on a voluntary basis. Herzberg's Scale of Job Satisfaction and Occupational Therapists Clinical Competency Scale were used for data collection. Introduction: Peer instructor teaching is an educational model in which senior students teach to their classmates or junior students. Clinical supervision is a formal, systematic, and continuous that the inexperienced person reviews and improves their performance by receiving advice from a supervisor or expert. Clinical education is a vital component of the medical science curriculum and the quality and control of its stressors are important. The purpose of this study was to combine peer instructor training model with clinical supervision on the status and stressors of clinical nursing education.
