2023, A Sociolinguistics Survey of Lala Language Group of Nigeria
This report describes the sociolinguistics survey conducted among the Lala speaking communities of Shelleng and Gombi local government area of Adamawa state, Nigeria. Blench classified Lala language under North volta Congo: Adamawa-Ubangi: Adamawa: Yungur group (Blench 2014:56). Lala people is estimated to be 232,987 in population (Kubmarawa &Burmamu 2014ː22). This survey is a necessary condition for the award of bachelor in linguistics and Bible translation in TCNN Jos. In order to understand the language situation of these people and it potential for language development, I investigated the following factors; geography, demography, education, literacy, literature socioeconomic and cultural factors, relation, linguistics and sociolinguistic situation of this language group. With these goals in mind, I utilized the linguistic and sociolinguistic data collected through group participatory discussions, individual interviews, selected leaders' interview, observations, church leaders' interviews and wordlist collection.
