Although in the past homeschooling was thought to be a privilege of wealthy American families living far away in suburbs, by today it has become a widespread phenomenon, which reached the Szekler region1 in Romania as well. In 2019/2020 we developed a thematic interview based on qualitative research2 on homeschooling in Szeklerland. Among many things, we sought to identify the main causes for the uptake in homeschooling in this specific region. We also investigated how it is carried out, what conditions have to be met in order to yield good results and what the immediate and remote consequences for those concerned are. The topicality and relevance of the issue has increased due to the pandemic situation, which started in 2019, when almost everyone in the word experienced in one way or another the advantages and disadvantages of homeschooling. By getting a glimpse of it, probably many have wondered what it would be like to pursue with it, what are the short- and long-term challenges and consequences. Using a stakeholder approach in our research, we tried to map out the answers to those questions and compare them to international (mainly Anglo-Saxon) research outcomes.
