A Study on Learning Styles of Secondary School Student's According to Gender and Class Level

The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of some personal characteristics such as age, gender of the secondary school students on their learning styles. The learning styles inventory that was developed by Grasha (1994) was applied to the participants. The learning styles inventory involved 6 sub-scales as independent, collaborative, competitive, avoidant, participant and dependent. learning styles preference was compared with gender, class level by using Chi-square Test. According to the results of the study; it was found that 48,2% of the secondary school students participating in the study have competitive, 29,2% of them have collaborative, 10,9% independent, 4,5% avoidant, 4,5% participant and 2,7% dependent learning styles. Gender-Wise and Institution-Wise Difference in Learning Styles of Secondary School Students
This study has been designed to investigate gender-wise and institution-wise difference in learning styles. The main focus is on classroom learning. The social interaction model of learning styles was used. Sample included the male and female students of secondary class enrolled at both the public and private institutions. The findings showed that female students prefer different learning styles than their counter part. Further study highlights the students of private institution prefer competitive whereas students of public institution prefer avoidant learning style.
A Comparative Study of Learning style among male and female students of class XI
The purpose of this study was to investigate differences between male and female students with reference to different dimensions of learning style. A sample of 100 boys and 100 girls studying in two senior secondary schools of Meerut city was randomly selected. The investigator had personally met the participants and administered the tool. Learning style inventory by Prof. K.S. Misra was used. Percentage and significance of percentage were calculated to analyse the data. The findings reveal that male students show significant preference towards figural and constructive learning styles while female students prefer verbal and reproducing learning styles.
A survey of gender and learning styles

This study was conducted to investigate differences in learning styles between men and women. The study is based on the learning style work by Belenky, Clinchy, Goldberger, and Tarule and David Kolb. A survey that included the Kolb Learning Style Inventory, 12 Educational Dialectical questions, and a subjective question was administered to 72 subjects of various ethnic groups. The results showed that men and women were found to have different learning styles, and in general, men seemed to find congruence between traditional education and their learning style while women did not.

Learning styles denote to the distinction that exists in the ability of people to accumulate, interpret and assimilate information. The appropriate use of learning style is very beneficial for effective class teaching. Among different learning styles, three of the most popular are visual, auditory and kinaesthetic. The main objective of this research was to explore gender difference in preferred learning modalities of high school students. Different students take in information from different learning styles. Some are visual learners, while others are auditory or kinaesthetic learners. This study is an explorative cross sectional. The nature of this study was based on quantitative method. 102 high school students with reference to gender The finding showed that high school students' preferred learning style was kinaesthetic.
Determination of Elementary Students' Learning Styles Reviewed from Gender Aspects
Students use different styles or ways of receiving and managing information during learning. VARK learning style was developed based on the physiological aspect of students in the form of sensory modalities. This survey research was conducted at 30 elementary schools in Ambon City. The data of student learning was obtained by filling out the learning style questionnaire developed by Fleming. The results showed that 88.7% of students used a learning style (unimodal) and 11.3% of students combined more than one learning style (multimodal). For the unimodal learning styles, kinesthetic is most prevalent in male and female students with a percentage of 58.6%, whereas visuals are least found with a percentage of 6%. The study also revealed that multimodal learning styles were found at all bimodal, trimodal, and quadmodal combinations. The more blend of learning style, hence the frequency of determination of student learning style even less.. The combination of multiple unimodal learning styles with large numbers will result in multimodal learning styles with large numbers..
Gender differences in learning styles: A narrative review and quantitative meta-analysis

This article reviews research on gender and learning styles of students, 18 and older, conducted after 1980. Curry's onion model (1983) is used to classify definitions of learning styles and to reconstruct the theoretical frameworks used. The extent to which learning style is considered stable or variable in different learning contexts determines its position in the model. Most studies used theoretical frameworks that belonged in the middle or outer layers of the model. This location indicates the strong influence of learning context on women's and men's learning styles. While there were differences between learning styles, research designs rarely included learning contexts.

Understanding learning styles can enhance teaching and learning effectiveness by identifying students' preference for comprehending and utilizing the information presented in classes. This study aims to (1) investigate what learning styles preferred by females students (2) what females students dominantly use learning styles. The students' learning styles preference based on Reid's categories (visual, auditory, kinesthetic, tactile, group and individual). Thirty (30) female English students program participated in filling questionnaires. Data were analyzed through SPSS 16.0 version. Results of the study indicated that all female English students' learning styles include in the standard categories. Learning styles used by female English students in learning English at Universitas Muhammadiyah Maluku Utara (UMMU) are visual, auditory, kinesthetic, tactile, group and individual. It in line with Reid's categories, (2) the dominant learning styles preferred by female English students at Universitas Muhammadiyah Maluku Utara; first individual learning styles (69.20%), second group (66.20%), third kinesthetic (61.30%), fourth auditory (45.50%), fifth (41.70%.), and the last one is visual 37.40%.)

In education it is important to celebrate all aspects of diversity, including different ways students learn. Addressing these diversities in the classroom is paramount for the success of every student. This research on learning styles may help in explaining the possible reasons for differences in students' achievement. The aim of this study was to investigate the learning style preferences based on gender, school level and students' GPA. A questionnaire was completed by 269 middle and high school students to determine if their learning style preferences are auditory, visual or tactile. The results showed that students' most preferred learning style is auditory on all three factors: gender, school level and their GPA, while there are certain differences when it comes to the second and third preferred learning style. Identification of the preferred learning styles may help instructors to differentiate the teaching process and may have positive impacts on obtaining and improving learning outcomes.
